Who: Claire & Raff
What: Claire makes a new vampire friend (also step one of Claire finally becoming a vampire)
Where: An Overbite after party in London, UK
When: Saturday night, September 12th 2020
Warnings: None!
It wasn't the first Overbite show and after party she'd ever been to, but it was the first one she'd attended that took take place outside of American soil. Before becoming a reincarnate, just hopping on a plane to Europe on a moment's notice was completely insane. Now? She didn't even need a plane, because MTN's existed, and she could pretty much be anywhere she wanted in the world in under thirty seconds.
Pretty sweet deal, if you ask her.
Sure, becoming a reincarnate had come with some growing pains. Leaving home had already been a huge transition, but having to deal with her first year at Yale and the bubbly voice of a vampire from Mystic Falls in your head? It was a lot for anyone. At least she had her brother, who was totally supportive even if he was completely distracted with having a baby and a hot vampire boyfriend these days. That was the other weird thing, her brother was a reincarnate too! And a vampire. Claire was only one of those things, and some days she really wasn't sure if she was disappointed or not. There were plenty of downsides to being a vampire, chief among them having to survive on blood for the rest of your life. Yuck. But if she were a vampire, she'd never have to use a fake I.D. to get into a bar again! She could just compel them to serve her. ... Probably not the coolest thing to do, morally speaking, but whatever. There were some definite upsides to consider.
If she were being responsible she probably would have stayed home. It was a Saturday night, but it was also the beginning of her junior year. She should be at home studying. Or going to bed early. Who was she kidding? If she were back in New Haven she'd probably just be at somebody else's party. Studying on a Saturday night was for suckers, especially when she could be at a really cool party full of rock stars and other celebrities in London freaking England of all places.
Being the younger sister of Overbite's manager definitely came with a few perks. Namely, she didn't have to pay to see the show (though she totally would, they were that good). Also, she got to watch from backstage instead of packed in with the rest of the sardines on the main floor. Even if Léon hadn't been their manager, Claire would still be totally into the band, their music was awesome and everyone seemed really cool. She didn't know a couple of them that well yet, but of course she knew Leander, Léon's boyfriend and Overbite's magnetic lead singer. If he hadn't been Léon's boyfriend, Claire would probably have the biggest crush on him (he reminded Caroline a little too much of someone she used to know so apparently they both had a thing for the bad boys). And of course she knew Pandora, who was Léon's... sort of daughter, and Leander's actual daughter somehow. It got a little confusing if Claire thought about it too hard, but she liked Pandora. Pandora was so cool and beautiful and deadly and basically who Claire wanted to be when she grew up. That was probably a weird thing to say.
The show itself was great, and afterwards, Claire left Léon to corral his troupes before everyone made their way to the after party location, which was essentially a huge fancy hotel that they'd booked up and had taken over for the night. Claire had never seen anything so fancy looking in her whole life, and she spent a good thirty minutes just exploring the place while trying not to stare too obviously at all the people who she knew were vampires in the place. Knowing that as a human she was likely in the minority at this party probably should have made her nervous, but it didn't. She was mostly just really excited to be here. Then she started drinking, because she'd stupidly forgotten a jacket and all she was wearing was a light blue dress that was a little sheer and definitely too thin to be warm even on the parts of her it covered.
Another perk to being in London? Here it was already legal for her to drink. Stupid America and their weird rules about people under twenty-one. Claire would be turning that old in just under three months but it felt like she'd been twenty for a hundred years already, god she really hated filler years. The bartender didn't even look at her twice the first time she came over to get a whiskey sour (she didn't really like whiskey but she loved the cherries it came with), or the second time.
By the third time Claire was pleasantly drunk and feeling pretty great, having wandered outside onto one of the balconies. If you looked out far enough you could see the River Thames and the Tower of London, which in her currently inebriated state Claire thought she'd be able to see better if she leaned further over the balcony railing, just far enough to lose half her drink when she tipped forward a little too far. "Oh no, my cherry!"
