"Wow, a year?" One year less than her, that was crazy, and she remembered her first year as a reincarnate being nothing but a lot of nonstop chaos and confusion. Claire couldn't even imagine going right from that to becoming an actual vampire, which was a huge adjustment in itself that made reincarnation adjustment look like a freaking cake walk.
There were still so many things about this that were completely different from everything Caroline knew. Becoming a vampire wasn't even necessarily the same, you could become the reincarnate of one but still be alive, sometimes for years without turning. She was proof enough of that, so were Raff and Léon. And Claire was just assuming that being turned was the same. Would she even need vampire blood in her system before she died, or would already being the reincarnate of a vampire be enough?
It's possible she thought about becoming a vampire a little too much to be considered healthy. Léon would have a cow.
Not like it was the only thing Claire ever thought about, but it was kind of hard not to sometimes when you had a person in your head whose cravings for blood sometimes made you weirdly hungry for something you'd never actually had before. Claire wondered if Raff had experienced that, but she thought better of it before she voiced the question out loud. Probably not the smartest thing to ask a drunk vampire about blood. when his inhibitions were lowered and his cravings maybe a little heightened.
So she asked a different question, which was probably no less personal, but Claire was dying to know. No pun intended. "Do you like it? Being a vampire?"
