Time to move out-open to everyone leaving on the 20th

Who: Kenneth and anyone/everyone leaving on the 20th
When: Mid morning
Where: Heading east
What: Taking a break

There was no way to keep up the grueling pace all day, at least not for most. Kenneth made sure to call plenty of halts, at least as many as he possibly could, but they still weren't making the speed they'd need to get to the safe camp. Fortunately, he'd sort of planned on that, his worst case scenario. If they didn't make it, he'd circle the carts, build a fire and people would just have to stay awake. The Laughers were smart, he hoped if he took down enough of them, they'd just back off. Did Laughers have a concept for unacceptable losses?

Kenneth didn't know, but he did know that would burn through his ammunition, something he'd already decided was worth it to protect those coming with him. He looked around and squinted up at the sun. Sacrificing a blanket, he tore strips of it with his knife then handed them to the closest person. "Soak these with some water and get people to put them on the back of their necks and heads. It might help."

Closing Day Twelve

Who: Everyone
Where: Around the campfire
What: Catching Up and Discussing The Future
When: Sunset
Rating: G to PG, depending on how the language goes.

Helena returned to her log by the fire and settled down next to the pouch of yarnballs, taking them up once again. She worked at pulling them apart as people began to drift back in to the camp, pausing to breath in the smoking grazer meat and pop boiled pesk eggs into their mouths. Some of them chewed strands of sweetgrind or braided fieldgrass as they chattered and caught up. Once everyone had arrived, she stood up and cleared her throat. "I just wanted to say a few things before we pack up for the night," she said over the din.

"Firstly, welcome back Thorne, Cross, Alex, Kenneth and Jasper. We're really glad to have you back and it's nice to see that you found a few things on your adventure. The grazer hide and meat is especially welcome." She flashed a smile around at the more tanned and sunburned faces in the circle.

"Secondly, I want to pass on a bit of bad news before you hear it from others. We lost four women while you were gone." She cleared her throat, clearly upset by this happening and with good reason. No one had voted Helena as the leader of the group, it had just happened. She still felt responsible and she should, if she were actually the leader. "There's been no sign of Annie, Lauren, Nancy and Jeri."

"Lastly," and here her gaze lingered on Bazzer. He looked...not like himself. She wondered what was eating the younger man. Still, she moved on. "Bazzer and I were discussing the tribe's prospects the other day and I said I would bring up an option to the whole of the group when we were all together again." She clasped her hands infront of herself and tried to organize her pro opinion in order to deliver it well. "Plenty of small tribal societies living without large advancements in technology, much like we are, survived for generations as nomadic peoples." She felt more than heard a hum move around the circle. "I believe that becoming nomadic might be a good answer for us. We're stripping the food supply here nearly bare. We don't know how the weather might change here over the next few months as well. Also, how can we know if there is no city in this world if we don't forge farther out than we can do in a day's run? I think it is safer for the group as a whole if we travel together, look out for each other and move forward rather than wait around here for something to happen." That said, she waited for the questions and opinions of the others. "What do you think?"

Who: Ryan and Arlo
When: early morning
Where: the woods, at the stream
What: random encounter
Rating: R (language, of course!)

As Ryan washed his face in the stream, he was wondering how his socked feet were going to hold up to the walking he and Helena planned to do today. He could only hope that he wouldn't step on something he hadn't seen and get it rammed up into his foot. Not a happy thought, there. He sighed and paused with water still dripping off of his skin, then decided to immerse his entire head. Sure, the water was chilly, but he was definitely awake now.

The blond sat back on his heels and pushed his hair out of his face, shivering a little as icy water dripped down his back. He squinted up through the trees into the sky, wondering what the day would end up being like. It was really too early to tell, and he couldn't see anything but a vague impression of color. He hadn't expected to, but somehow he couldn't stop himself from trying. His chin lowered and he got to his feet as he heard someone approaching through the woods; he half-turned and waited to see who it would be.

The Fishing Party

Who:  Jasper and Open to Everyone
When:  Late morning, the instant she can see more than a foot in front of her
Where:  Jasper's Tree
What:  Party
Rating:  G, with potential to change depending on language

Jasper had built herself a nice little nest with a roof-like thing just before sunset the day before, but just before dawn a lot of the "roof" had been torn away.  She had debated for a while whether or not to fix it, then decided no and hung up her sleeping bag upside down so the water couldn't get in - luckily the rest of it was waterproof.  Then she got a long vine, put a noose in one end, and got a dead branch with her other hand.  She stripped it of all the little twigs and things, and broke it so that it had a good, sharp end.

Then she went down the tree, with one foot in the vine so that she wouldn't fall into the water where those big sharp-toothed fish were.  That way, instead of them eating her?  It was the other way around.  Merrily, as she got one and pinned it against her tree so it wouldn't flop away.  It didn't really occur to her that she might have to cook it first.  At the moment, Jasper wanted to catch as many fish as this bounty would allow.  Loudly, without thinking about it, she started singing 'Living Dead Girl' by Rob Zombie

Debriefing Arlo

Who: Arlo and Kenneth
When: Morning Day 7 during services
What: Talk about what his group found
Where: A little ways from camp where Arlo is trying to make a bow.
Rating: R it's Arlo...at least that for swearing
Warnings: None that I know of...yet

Kenneth was awake before dawn and watched the laughers as they faded into the darkness before climbing down from his tree. He'd stayed in one on his own about a mile from the camp so he could watch the behavior of the animals before deciding if killing them would be of any use. They were covered in a thick black fur and so he'd decided if nothing else at least that would be useful. It had only taken three shots to take the animal down and several of the others has pounced on the body. Apparently they weren't adverse to carrion after all.

Once they'd left, Kenneth dropped out of the tree and quickly dressed what was left of the animal, taking what portions of meat would be edible as well as the skin and several of the larger bones. Fortunately the laughers had gone for the organs and fat, leaving some larger portions of meat. Aware that not everyone had strong stomachs, he cleaned his hands, the skin and his knife in the stream before walking back to camp. He left the meat on clean leaves by the fire for anyone that might come by and want some then went in search of Arlo to discuss what his group had seen on their search.

Too Many Men!

Who:  Rowan and Arlo
Where:  The Field of Purple
When:  Fairly early morning
What:  A finding!  Mostly so that Helena can deal with her testosterone influx.
Rating:  R because there is a nekkid lady

Rowan was in a pretty good mood this morning.  But she also had to pee.  Really, really badly.  She listened to Helena climb lightly to the ground and disappear into the mist - and really, Ro wouldn't have blamed her if she didn't come back - but shortly there after the urge hit and Ro was scrambling down the tree and picking her way through the rocks and moss and undergrowth to the stream, and following some ways down there.  When business was taken care of, she decided that this looked sluggish and shallow enough for a proper wash, too, in spite of the lack of soap, and she peeled off her clothes and stepped into the chilly water.  Mentally, she made a note that if she ever managed to get home, to get her calves tattooed in tribal designs.
