Helena stood up as the conversation started to die down. She could see the worries and outright miseries or rages carved onto the faces of everyone gathered around. A few people glanced off into the deepening shadows, wary of movement in the bushes, anxious to get a look at this dreaded enemy. Helena knew they would hear the Laughers coming long before they were a threat. They had a bit of time. "Ok everyone, now that food is taken care of I wanted to propose another piece of business. I'm by no way the ruling body in this camp. We all come from democratic countries and we're all fully used to having a say about our leadership. That being said, I really have heard some good suggestions today and I wanted to put them to you, all at once." Her gaze racked around the circle.
"Our numbers are increasing and while there are definitely other Climber trees in the area which we could separate off in to, I think that finding a better and safer camp site should be a priority." Helena cleared her throat, feeling far too many eyes on her. Not all of them were friendly or at all respectful. "I think it would be good if tomorrow we separated into four groups and each group took a direction." She again paused, waiting for anyone to disagree with her idea. When no one did, she carried on.
"I'm not going to force any one to go, but I am going to insist that two people stay with me here at the tree to help manage the new arrivals tomorrow." Her eyes fell on Ryan and she smiled at him even though she knew that he couldn't see it. His face was turned toward her though, so she forged on. "Ryan, I'd like you to stay here at camp. And Rowan, you to." Her eyes fell on the one who was becoming her closest friend here. Rowan would always have a special place in her heart simply for arriving and alleviating her terrible loneliness. Her smile was apologetic. "We should really go looking for more food tomorrow. So it'll be us three, meet and greeting and foraging. Ok?"
Helena didn't really wait for any commentary on who she'd chosen to stay at home. Everyone knew they would have to cover a lot of ground during they daylight hours and both Ryan and Rowan would slow them down. "I have four suggestions for those I think should lead these groups. Firstly, I think Angelica should leave one. She has a weapon and is trained to use it, as well as leadership training." She offered the unfriendly redhead a smile.
"Second, I think Cross should also lead a group." She turned a smile on him. "I know he isn't afraid to pull out his knife when threatened as well. I also think your physical strength would be an asset." He was easily one of the largest men there. "Thirdly, I think Arlo should lead a group." She gave him a benevolent smile, especially when she caught a flash of disbelief in his eyes, just for a split second. "I think your experience as an outdoorsman will be a huge help, Arlo." She said it kindly, despite the man's flamboyant rudeness. "And last, I think it should be you, Thorne. I know you have some experience with the outdoors as well and perhaps your training will help you spots some things that might be useful to us." She looked between all of the group leaders faces. "So we're looking for anything we can use and an acceptable camping spot. Some place we can defend. You are free to chose your partners. Maybe you should do that now. And decide on which direction you will be going." That said Helena sat down again.
