This is just the way Veronica's life went. Another day, another weird problem she had to deal with. Between Lilly's arrival, and Logan, and the falling of Shield, and Lilly aging and now Sam, it had just been a lot for her. Getting a text that Sam had maybe had some things happen that had reduced his SOUL? And that he had memories of DYING? That was too much. She couldn't help it, as soon as he said it, she threw her phone down and started crying. Oh, and then she had a broken screen. First world problems, sure, but it was one more thing she had to do. She closed her eyes and breathed for a moment, trying to gain some perspective. Even if Sam was older, he was still Sam, he still loved her, that hadn't changed. What could be so terrible?
But she knew he sounded...broken, a bit. Whatever had happened in those intervening years had hurt him deeply, and she needed to see him. More, she needed him to need her. It sounded terrible, but she had this irrational thought that if Sam didn't need her now, he never would, and then would he ever truly love her? She knew she was thinking crazy thoughts, and that if she actually SAW him, it would calm her down. She did what any normal girlfriend would do, and taped her battery back onto her phone, agreed to meet him, and washed her face like a grown up. Her eyes were bright, but she hoped he wouldn't notice. She was strong, she could handle this. She always did.
It was only a few minutes later and she was on the roof, and even if it was a different one than the roof they had met on, it still felt a bit like 'their place'. She liked the sound of the city below and the wind whipping her hair. After a long exhale, she made her way out to where she saw a Sam shaped figure. "Tree..." she started, reaching out to touch his shoulders. Her hands were shaking, but her eyes were dry, and that was progress.
