Hi there! I’m Janet.

Fun fact: Though Dr. Alexander Wood, the inventor of the hypodermic needle, is in The Good Place, he only missed being sent to The Bad Place by 312 points. Incest and torture are, as a general rule, frowned upon, no matter the reason.

With that in mind, I do not have skin or a circulatory system, so I can be neither infected nor innoculated. The experience was fun, though!

Into existence? No. Though time has no meaning in neither the Good Place nor the Bad Place, I can safely infer that I have been activated for centuries.

Into this small room? Yes! It is very small.

There's my favorite information delivery system! How ya doing Janet? All systems fully operational, and all that jazz?

Please forgive me for leaving you in suspense, but I was astonishingly without full functionality until just a moment ago, and couldn’t do a systems check.

Aaand done! I am operating at 98.2431% capacity.

So that other tiny percent just means something simple, like you forgot what a handshake is, or you can't touch your tongue to your nose - something like that, right?

Correct! Specifically, the other 1.7569% is the ability to see where Men’s Rights Activists are coming from, though I’m not sure whether this is a malfunction as much as it is a preference. Personhood is an adventure!

Nope, no cheating Michael. You don't get to read all about everyone. If you want to know about someone, you ask them to sit down over a cup of chowder and very politely encourage them to open up about themselves. Like a human.

I will happily do this for you Michael! Just don’t tell Eleanor, because I am not happy to not do what she wants me to do. But don’t worry. I am happy to do this for you.

Would you like hard copy files, or a convenient yet technically obsolete PDA filled with the information? I’ve heard the latter comes with an attractive styles.

There seems to be a trouble with the equation when balancing incest and torture, someone ends up in The Good Place.

Perhaps you could provide me with whatever the equation is that you are referencing? And I'm curious as to what thoughts you have on it, or why not, as the question may be.

You're absolutely right. There should be zero chance for redemption and no amount of good should outweigh any bad a person does in their lifetime.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]mintedking

You may be taking the argument too far in the other direction. There are various sorts of bad behavior. Someone cutting ahead of me in traffic is being rude. But it would not outweigh everything good they may ever do in their life. For all I know, they are rushing to be there in time for their child's recital, to bring pies to a charitable bake sale, or anything else.

Some bad can never be undone. But that does not mean that people should not try to do better, if their conscience comes around. If there is no redemption, no reason to try to do something better, then the world may become a worse place.

Overall, I would say the two do not undo each other. The bad is no less bad for the good. But so too is the good no less good for the bad.
