Asking a simple question. ((Open)) [Oct. 19th, 2011|09:23 am]

Junpei had been in the Nexus long enough to know about the sign. That in mind, he stood near it, and looked around for a moment, before starting.

"So, is it just a part of life to inevitably question one's own worth at some point?"

rubette la lette intro [Oct. 6th, 2011|06:13 pm]

Out of a fear of looking stupid, Rubette is hesitant to ask her question upon arrival. There's no one to ask after all, but why would there be a gargantuan sign smack dab in the middle of the city if you aren't supposed to ask questions. Normally there is a booth or some sort of chamber of commerce located in big cities...speaking of which this is unlike any kind of city she's ever seen.

"Well this is just...alright fine, fine...ask a question huh? Well I have...more than one actually so be ready for it. What is this place...?...Oh and, well I know it's impossible to cure an idiot, but is it impossible to magically reverse aging? That's probably a strange question...it's probably futile anyway, but I guess there's no harm in asking...a sign."

It's the end of the world as we know it [Sep. 8th, 2011|01:02 am]

There's an explosion as a portal opens. Wild elemental energy whips through, followed by the flying (albiet not willingly) forms of four people, three girls and a boy all about college aged, who all land in a heap not far from the sign. The portal closes behind them.

They're strange looking, dressed like normal college students, but those are some damn weird dye jobs they got. The boy, with grass green hair, is the first to wake up and lift his head, looking around. If anyone's got an eye for details, they'll notice his eyes match his hair.

"What the fuck?" is the first words out of his mouth.

This is Akane's second trip to the Nexus and this time she's wearing her school uniform, her magic wand is tucked in her school bag which she is holding behind her back. She looked troubled, or she would look troubled if she wasn't wearing a medical face mask over her mouth. She was staring up at the sign almost fixedly as if she was hoping that it or someone close by might have a miraculous answer to her question. There was an air of discomfort about her as well, she was rocking from one foot to the other.

"Um...so...well...this might be a little strange but...it would be better than asking Takeo-sempai anyway..." her voice sounds a little muffled behind the mask, "...so...hiccups I need a remedy...I've tried everything, drinking water, holding my breath, swallowing sugar...but...these aren't normal hiccups...these hiccups are...magical...so a cure for hiccups?"

[ooc: Forgot to mention, yes Akane has a case of the magical hiccups, so anyone around her may or may not be affected by her magic. Her magic has a wide range of effects, including changing the physical forms of others. So anything can happen, you're welcome to BYOB or Akane will magic up a random magical situation.]

A new LOL has seen fit to arrive at the Nexus. There are toy My Little Ponies everywhere, waiting to LOL the poor unsuspecting sucker that picks one up. If they do, they'll get turned into a pony.

For those bright enough to not touch anything? There's pony-shaped confetti flying around, attacking their victims. There's no escape.

So, how many are out and about in the Nexus today?

((Pony-maker here. Have fun horrifying your pups.))

Happy Halloween! [Oct. 27th, 2010|08:50 pm]

Some of the residents at [info]elric_apts might recognize the young woman at the sign. Anna, the adopted sister of [info]gatemaster, had made herself comfortable in a fold-out chair, with a large plastic cauldron full of a wide variety of candy.

Twix, Snickers, Hersheys, M&Ms, Jolly Rancher hard candies, the list goes on.

"It's getting to be that time of year again," Anna said, "at least on Earth. Anyone want some Halloween candy?"

-----
(Yes, the candy is LOL-candy. If a character eats it, s/he will become a ghost for a length of time determined by the player, not less than six hours, and not more than four days. During this time, the character will be invisible and intangible, but will be able to speak normally, as s/he will not quite be a "real ghost". The only other characters who will be able to see the ghosted characters are as follows:
1) real ghosts
2) [info]loop_me_in
3) other 'fake ghost' characters
4) psychics - both the mystic kind and the telepath kind.
5) anyone the character is soulbound to, provided the character is soulbound in the first place

Well, they needed to know where they could find a Gourry a sword, right? So let's put that awful-looking sign to use. Lina steps up onto a chair to be seen and heard over the crowd and cups her hands around her mouth. "Attention everybody! I need to know where we can find a sword! Does anybody know of any legendary blades or mythological weapons or maybe just a good swordsmith?"

Question about atheists (you're related to.) [Jul. 11th, 2010|08:23 pm]

Chrono has the look of someone who'd like to punch someone in the nose. He's taking a long walk into the Nexus to cool down after a hot debate that nearly ended in the traditional Sinner manner: Someone getting impaled or frozen in time. "Say you have a relative, and say that he has some very extreme issues when it comes to religion--he's an atheist and he thinks your personal beliefs are funny--how would you get him to knock it off without knocking his head off his shoulders?"

Melisan was not a happy camper, judging from the fact he was looking annoyed at the world, even behind his normal neutral expression.

"Here's a question for you all. Why do I put up with this bullshit sometimes?"

"She calls this a Retirement community?" Dr. Tachyon looked around the Nexus and sighed. "A wonderful place that's peaceful and quiet, she said, near the center of everything. I didn't think she meant literally."

The diminutive man stood by the sign dressed in what for him would be considered rather drab clothing; a victorian style suit of crushed red velvet, a wide brimmed matching hat with pale pink plumes, a snow white shirt spilling lace from the jacket collar and a coral pink cloak. Drab only because it consisted of shades of the same color.

"Ask a question? Alright. I've had a pretty....chaotic....life so far, lots of ups and downs and many sideways as well. What would you consider the strangest thing to happen to you?"

Two Questions about Opinions [Mar. 25th, 2010|05:10 pm]

[Current Mood |amused]

Aion is standing by the Sign. Perched on the sign is a large bald eagle with eyes that are an unusual color--bright red. "Have you ever had a conversation where the other party expected you to immediately change your world view because they believed that their world view was the correct one?" This question might seem extremely slightly ironic to those who know Aion and some of his more stringent opinions.

"And for a second question, have you ever suspected that most of a subordinate's critiques of your behavior actually boils down to, 'Master needs to get laid'?"

New arrival in the Nexus [Mar. 24th, 2010|09:53 pm]

First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye debated for nearly a half an hour about speaking up, staring at the sign from a healthy distance as she argued with herself. But it was either time to speak up, or time to go home, and that option made her finally decide to ask what was on her mind.

"Have you ever been in a situation where you were a party to causing a great deal of harm to someone else, someone who did nothing to deserve what happened to them, and you were in a position where stopping it from happening was not an option, but you're still just as guilty as everyone else involved?"

Aion is looking very amused at the moment, standing not very far away from the sign. "Immovable object, or irresistible force? Both are indications that you are perhaps speaking to someone with strong feelings about something--but which would you identify with, someone determined to reach the goal, or the person who wishes to keep everything the way it was?"

There's a new face in the Nexus, hiding behind a pair of large sunglasses and an amicable smile. If he's caught off guard by all this craziness, he's certainly not showing it--he just calmly stands near the sign, smoking.

Only the scattering of discarded cigarette butts around his feet gave away his nervousness. Yohji always smoked too much when he was caught off-guard or disturbed. And, well, very little was more disturbing than finding yourself where you weren't supposed to be, with no real idea how you got there.

"Anyone have any ideas for a birthday present for a kid that says he doesn't want anything?"

Somewhere in the Nexus, there is a door.

It is not a very large door, constructed to the average height and width of the front door of the average suburban house. On the whole is is entirely unremarkable, with only a peep hole and door knob to make it any more than a large, painted plank of wood. Those who frequent the area might notice that it is rather new, however, seeing as it appeared just now.

This is probably where the original author would derail into an epic off-the-wall tale about alternate dimensions or magical realms, but the current writer is both too tired for that shit and wholly uncreative.

The door opens to admit a tallish female figure into the Nexus, wearing a closed, hooded trenchcoat that makes her look like a monk released from an insane asylum and smelling faintly of a great many supernatural things should one be given to noticing those sorts of scents. Raw magic, werewolves, a faint trace of limbo, some sort of rabbit--the brimstone is likely the strongest of those scents, though. Tends to cling around a demon.

Sandra closes the door to her house behind her, not noticing it vanish and only noticing that she's not in her usual surroundings after she misses the marked lack of a step down to the street and stumbles. "What--?" She stares around at her new and somewhat strange company (was that a Transformer?) and blinks several times before forming a coherent reply.

"What the hell did Jack do now?"

Hello, Nexus. Meet Sandra Eastlake.

Does Erzebet ever sleep? Her eyes are saying she should but doesn't, and her slow, shuffling steps confirm this. It's obvious she's attempted to sleep, and smell tells you she's attempted self-medication. She looks mildly haunted, though her jaw is set in an angry line. Erzebet comes to a stop and inhales deeply, her words coming out in a rolling thunder of pique.

"Is there not a single person that has a good sleeping pill?" She looks about, glaring.

Of men and marines [Aug. 18th, 2009|09:38 am]
avian_skysong
[Tags|, ]

A young gypsy woman steps up to the sign and looks around. A golden yellow shawl looped over her shoulders does little to hide the scarlet of her outfit. "Well it's about bloody time I found my way here. I've been hearing about this place forever and I need, if not answers, maybe advice." She fidgets with the end of her shawl trying to think how best to phrase her question.

"So there's this marine that I've been involved with for over a year now. For the most part, it's a casual relationship with a lot of good times. However we've always been someone that the other could turn to when they needed to talk things out, shared bits of our past not shared with anyone else, been there when the other was going through some pretty hard times. Usually Lady Fate has been kind and only put one of us through the wringer at a time, until recently. We and a few others were in a bad situation. He was supposed to be leading the task that we were on when a crisis fell and a hard choice had to be made and had to be made quickly. He wanted to spend a lot of time avoiding making the decision, while two others suffered. So I made the decision. Everyone else agreed that it was the right thing to do, especially the ones that it affected most. Even after we knew what course was left to us, the Captain had split off from us with another, searching through a poisonus maze for another way into an area that we knew to be a dead end. More bad stuff happened and out paths were split apart forcing us to return to our town by different roads."

She stops to gather her thoughts, trying to keep the worst of the details out of the story, but unable to keep them from her mind. "The decision that had to be made is one that I have had to make before, and from prior discussions, he knew how hard that had to be on me. I arrived in town before him, waiting anxiously to see that he arrived back and hopefully to talk with him as I greatly needed it, if for nothing else to hear a kind voice. I sat near the edge of town, outside the local inn and near the road I knew he would have to be approaching by. I had to give an account to the local athorities....a debrifing of sorts while I waited for him. And that's when he came back, and he saw me.....and he turned his back to me and walked away. It hurt. It hurt enough that I decided that perhaps I would be better heading home to speak with my family there. That was four months past. Now he has shown up in the capital city where my father lives...and he wants to pretend that nothing has changed between us.

So this is what I ask: If you were in a similar situation, and someone knew that you needed council and still they turned away from you, would you be willing to trust them again? Would you be willing to council them in the same way they had not done for you? or would you turn away as they had done and take your life in a different course?"

Nexus,

I have suddenly found myself without a job and have no idea what to do now. There is one similar job that essentially does the same thing, but that would probably mean relocating, something I'm not sure I want to do. So I have two professional questions for you:

1. Any tips for writing a good resume when the last job that I held is considered highly classified?

2. Any career suggestions for a reluctantly former alien hunter?

On a personal note, my lover has stated his intention to do some traveling without me. I have reason to believe that he won't come back Should I wait for him to leave and let him end it when he does or should I just end it now?

((There will probably be spoilers for COE in comments))

Is this part of the dream? [Aug. 4th, 2009|08:33 am]

Nyneave stands looking up at the sign, her long waist length braid clutched in one hand. "I don't think I've heard of this in the world of dreams before. A question hmmm? Seems pretty quiet around here, not sure if I'll get any answers. But stranger things have happened in the dream. So why do woolbrained fools tell you to send for them and they will come if you need them, when they are half way across the world? Don't they realize that if you need them, you need them then, not days later?"
