Sunny hadn't seen Katie in a week or so, but she knew how happy Katie had been with Woody, and she had wanted to know why her friend's spirit had changed so abruptly. So after school she had cornered her and insisted that they hang out together.

Sunny felt like she was a neglectful friend.

"What's the matter," she asked Katie softly, as they walked out of the school. "Is everything okay?"

Katie was avoiding him. It was obvious. She had basically ran from his house that night he met her parents. And Trisha was to blame. Trisha hadn't been around either, which confused him even more. He supposed since his sister went back to school, Trisha found she didn't have an excuse to come around his house.

In a way, he was also avoiding Katie. Every time he saw her in the hallways, he would duck into a classroom or the restroom. He hadn't called. Or really made any point to contact her. He knew she was pissed. But, surely, she didn't think everything that occurred that night was his fault.

He knew he needed to at least contact her. She deserved an I'm sorry, if nothing else.

Woody fished his cell phone from his pocket. He was a coward. He quickly typed out a message and hit send before he could change his mind.

hey

you know this is still the simple answer - mark z. danielewski

He wasn't sure what to think of his and Katie's text message conversation. He knew, very much so, that he was nothing but a coward. If he hadn't been, he would have gone to see Katie instead. But he hadn't and from what he could tell, him and Katie were basically over. Just like that. Which was kind of disturbing for him, because they dated for all of two months or something.

Woody never thought he was that guy. The kind that would only really date someone for a couple months and just not be able to keep it going. But, he supposed he was. Although - his last relationship had lasted for several months longer than his and Katie's.

He wasn't even sure what provoked a relationship between him and Katie. They had hardly said two words to each other and than WHAM! Committed relationship.

Woody read the messages again, shaking his head, because he really wasn't sure. All he knew was that there was someone waiting - who wanted him. And who he was kind of sure in that moment he wanted, because at least she had fought for him.

hey, He pounded quickly into his phone, no one's home. wanna come over? ;)

No one even knew him and Trisha had each others numbers. They discussed long ago that any contact between them would be under aliases. Which is why less than a minute later, a message from 'Faith' popped up on his screen.

guessing you got rid of katie? good job. i'll be right there. you'd better be ready for me.

Sometimes her messages made Woody feel so dirty. He knew it would just be sex and they'd cuddle afterward. But sometimes she seemed almost like a prostitue in how she spoke to him. He shrugged.

you know i will be.
