Who: Arthur, Kat, Thor
What: Arthur's arriving to a familiar face...
Where: a random street
When: midday
Rating: low
Open: no

Arthur could only stare in shock at the elderly wizard on the cliff, who was throwing bolts of lightning down onto the battlefield-- but not onto the knights of Camelot. Every foe approaching Arthur was flung to the ground by magical force. Morgana herself had been cast aside, and even her dragon had been turned away by the old man.

What was happening?

No matter. There would be time later to figure out why such powerful magic was being used to aid Arthur. For now, it was enough that they were not the ones on the receiving end of the blasts. There was a battle to be won.

"For the love of Camelot!" Arthur declared, swinging his sword to lead his men onward against the Saxons--

--and he staggered after a few steps when he found himself running down a street.

An unfamiliar street.

Alone.

He swung around, alert for any signs of a presence on his new surroundings. "Leon!" he called. "Sagrimore!"

Nothing. No one.

This had to be Morgana's doing. Or... what if it was that old wizard? Could it be that he was also seeking vengeance on Camelot, and did not want Morgana interfering? He had clearly been more powerful than the witch, so it was certainly possible that he had cleared out her forces in order to pave the way for his spell.

Whichever it was, the important thing was that Arthur needed to get back to Camlaan, or at least to Camelot. He had to defeat Morgana, and possibly this new foe. First things first: find out where he was-- provided he was not about to be attacked. Cautiously, Arthur started forward, his mind racing even as he remained on the lookout for anyone else who might be nearby.

Katherine could not help but roll her eyes. She was in a state of annoyance. It wasn't the man that annoyed her. No, it was this place. The last two weeks had been terrible.

"Look, boy," she addressed the man who was likely older than her. "I'm far too tired to lie to you. If I wanted you dead, you would be dead. You are not, take that as evidence that I am not hostile. And now put down your blade." Her voice was commanding, even though the exhaustion she felt let her shoulders hang a little more than they usually did.

At being called "boy," Arthur's eyebrows lifted. Never once in their entire lives had Morgana referred to him like that. That realization made him begin to notice a few other things that were not as he knew them: her dress, while not completely exotic, was unlike any he'd seen before; her hair did not look like it had been caught in a perpetual windstorm; her color appeared far healthier than it had in years... nor had he ever seen her take a posture like she was currently doing. Morgana had not even liked to show outward weakness when she had been his friend.

Whilst he was hardly about to trust this person, he had to admit to himself that something was off-- even though the mention of her being able to kill him rang familiar enough. He would not return his sword to its sheath, but he did lower it a fraction. "If you wish to convince me that you are not hostile, answering my question would be a good beginning. What is this place?"

It would take more than that to make him believe she was not about to brain him, but it was a start.

Katherine laughed a cynic laugh. "How am I to gain your trust if you ask me questions I cannot properly answer? It's an island. It's..." She shrugged. "It is out of place and out of time. And it has just decided to take you as its prisoner." She did not feel like going into the whole 'there is a book with your story in it and a girl who can read you from the story into real life'-thing. "You will not find it on any maps you might have come across. It has escaped cartography for a long long time."

"An island... took me as prisoner," Arthur repeated, simultaneously wondering how the hell she expected him to believe that-- and acknowledging in the back of his mind that magic could accomplish all sorts of terrible things, so it was possible she was telling the truth.

That was not the most important thing, however. "How do I get back?" He could not be away from his men, not at this moment. They would need him if they were to defeat the Saxon forces.

"You don't," Katherine said quickly. Arms were crossed in front of her chest. The confusion on his face and the memory of how lousy most people dealed with getting dumped here made her crawl out of her own annoyance for a moment.

"Look, I'm sorry this is happening to you but you are stuck here. There is no way back. All sorts of creatures have tried. Mages, ghosts, fae, gods - they are all trapped here. The only thing you can do is adjust." Having to say these words frustrated her more than anything. She hated this place even though she would not exist without it.

Arthur eyed the woman as she spoke. This was too much; she had Morgana's face but claimed not to be Morgana. She had thus far made no move to kill him. She told him he was trapped on an island that "creatures"-- not people, "creatures"-- had attempted to escape. That gods had attempted... gods?!

None of this made any sense. Therefore, he decided that either she was lying, or she was wrong. Her appearance made him inclined toward the former explanation, although why she would think anyone would believe a lie of that magnitude, he could not say. There was the possibility that, if she truly were not Morgana, someone had convinced her of what she was saying...

...which brought him back to this whole situation being too much to process at once.

"I do not think I will be adjusting anytime soon," he stated dryly. "There will be a way back, and I will find it."

It was not long during this conversation had Thor left the household. Massive and mighty, carrying weights with him to lift in the yard as he sometimes was want to do. He was dressed in a tank top of human make, one that stretched and poured over his every muscle, and a pair of comfortable pants fit for athletics. He had remembered the few fashion pieces he learned from his time on Earth, when not trying to choose for himself--hoods, he recalled, were not not-suspicious.

And quietly he listened to the conversation round the bend until, in his agitation despite his glorious battle only mere days prior, he dropped his massive weights. They hit the ground like leaden thuds leaving marks in the grass and dirt from their heft. Thor left his station to come around, perhaps a bit to Katherine's defenses, and perhaps to put the young human in his place.

"There will be no way back," he said in that rumbling voice. "My niece is quite right. Many have tried, including myself...all have failed. If they leave it is because they have fallen to their deaths or this place has grown weary of their games." In his own upset at the situation, the god looked more menacing in his anger than normal--most might even consider him jovial most of the time, but not today. Not as of late.

"Katherine, is he bothering you?" the blond finally asked in a more hushed, private style of tone, though he was not very good at subtle. He could definitely be overheard.

Katherine turned around at the sound of the footsteps. She would have known without the visual evidence who was approaching. There was something distinct about the way her uncle walked. Her posture immediately turned to him, body opening up in his direction.

A quick shake of her head indicated a no. "He's just being very odd. Thinks I'm someone else and from his reactions I presume that he believes I'm out to kill him." She shrugged casually. She turned to the stranger. "This is my Uncle Thor. He's the God of Thunder. Thor, this is..." She stopped. She had no idea who that was. Introductions had been very one-sided so far. "... a weirdo with a sword. Are you human?" she asked. Names could be exchanged later on.

((OOC: It's okay!! I had trouble writing it, anyway, and would rather play off you both. :) It's been a weirdly busy couple of days, otherwise this would've gone up sooner.))

Arthur started at the sound of the something heavy hitting the ground, and his sword came up automatically when a man who was clearly a warrior stepped into view. He had opened his mouth to retort against the warrior's initial remarks, but the woman spoke first-- and what she said made him change what he was about to say.

"Excuse me, a 'weirdo'? What the hell is that is that supposed to mean? And of course, I'm human." His attention was now divided between the two of them, not yet decided who posted the greater threat: the woman with the witch's face (and thus potentially her powers), or her physically able companion. In trying to figure that out, it took a beat for what she said to totally register.

She had introduced the man as the God of Thunder. Truly? Was that what he called himself? Well, it was unlikely that most people would argue the point, on appearance alone. While Arthur would hardly be so bold as to claim godhood, he had a legitimate title to present. Lifting his chin a hair, he declared, "Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot."

It was not until it was out of his mouth that he realized the woman really had no idea whom he was. Morgana would never be able to so effectively pretend not to know him. He stood up out of his readied stance, sword dropping to his side. "You honestly did not know that, did you?"

Did that mean that this situation was all as she had said, rather than being the lies of a witch? It could not be true...

Thor cracked a grin. He had finally caught on to some of the lingo of modern Midgard thanks to Katherine and her friends, and the islanders who were far more up to speed than his Asgardian verse. So, he answered Arthur's first question, "It means you are incredibly bizarre, likely not all right in the head. Probably from repeated bludgeoning."

He looked at Katherine for confirmation as he then turned his gaze back on Arthur. The king.

"My niece is no liar," Thor told the younger man with obvious insult in his tone. "She says what she means. You would do well to remember that."

Human - it figured. They were the least apt to adept to this place and accept its existence. Her attention quickly shifted away from the stranger towards her uncle. His explanation which harboured so much ignorance of human customs was too sweet. "Well spoken, uncle. That is exactly what it means. You should read more dictionaries, dear human," Katherine mocked with the most innocent of expressions and voices.

And then Thor rushed to her defence in a matter that was so very vulnerable in their tainted family. She had been accused of lies from the moment she had been able to talk and the vehemence with which her uncle's words were spoken rid her of any intention to mock. She simply smiled at him and - as so often - showed her appreciation with a small touch: a hand squeezing his well-muscled arm for just a second.

"Bizarre?! I apparently have been yanked out of his own place and time and dropped into... whatever this is, confronting someone who looks exactly like my mortal enemy, and you have the gall to call me bizarre?" He was one of the least odd people he knew, as a matter of fact.

The repeated head bludgeonings were something Arthur could not argue, but they had no need to know that. Nor was he going to ask what a "dictionary" was, and thus provide them with more fodder.

The smile Katherine gave to Thor gave Arthur a pang. He was now convinced that this was certainly not Morgana, yet Katherine still looked like her... reminding him of when Morgana used to smile kindly. Before every expression she gave other than hatred was a mockery of the genuine caring and compassion she used to share.

Shoving the ache aside, he cleared his throat slightly to be able to ask, "So, what now?" If this was a situation that happened often, people suddenly appearing in this place, there was likely some protocol which was followed.

A nod, pleased with himself--as he so often was, Thor proceeded to stride forward toward the puny man before them. A brow cocked, strong arms defiantly crossing his chest, the god stood near enough he could look down on Arthur. He chose otherwise to ignore the statement, for telling anyone they got used to it was not the case. He was not used to it. He was depressed and angry and sad. He was weary.

"Now, you find a place of residency. Some of your things will appear there after a few days. I'd say learn to use the devices, otherwise you'll be very lonely...and you won't know when the beasts arrive."

He then turned and sauntered back toward Katherine showing her the brightest smile he'd had in a while, even with that fight, as if he had enjoyed picking on Arthur.

Katherine let the two men talk, standing there caught in her own thoughts. Mortal enemy - it took something to call someone that and Arthur did not seem to be the type to gather a horde of enemies.

Her uncle's smile disturbed her thoughts and she could not help but to smile back. Even though he tried to hide it often enough while she was around her, she knew him too well by now to remain ignorant of his dark mood. So the smile was worth pure gold. Like most people she just wanted her closest friends to be happy.

"What is she like? What has she done to deserve to be your mortal enemy?" Katherine softly asked. All mockery and annoyance was gone, only interest remained.

Having expected there to be some sort of meeting with leaders of the island, something that sounded more formal than what Thor described, Arthur was taken aback. He would simply find a place to live? That was odd. And new. He'd never truly known any home other than Camelot. He had been driven from it before, but always knew he would regain it; after all, it was his. This would take getting used to-- provided he did not actually find a way to leave.

Beasts, on the other hand, were the first familiar thing he had heard mention of in the last several minutes. That, he knew. That, he could handle.

What he did not care for quite so much was the way Thor was evidently trying to intimidate him. He was bigger and a few inches taller, and Arthur had no doubt as to his ability in a fight. Whilst he was no longer anticipating one, Arthur stood straight and met the other man's eyes as he spoke. He was not issuing a challenge; it was instinct. The son of Uther Pendragon and king of Camelot in his own right would hardly think to cower.

He watched Thor walk back toward Katherine and ended up moving closer to them, as well. He still maintained a slight distance, but had become aware of still being in the same spot he'd stopped when he found himself in this place, and wished to change that. He halted at Katherine's question, considering his words before answering.

"It was her decision, not mine." No matter that he had accepted the situation, it still pained him, and he tried as always not to let that show-- not completely successfully. "She decided that she wants me dead, and has killed many innocent people in her quest for that end. Even those she leaves alive suffer at her hand. It was not always that way; she used to be kind and loyal. But hatred took hold of her heart, and she became cold and selfish. She is also a powerful witch, which is a dangerous combination. She must be stopped."

The situation from which he had been pulled came back to him. "That's where I just was: in a battle with her forces, and that is why I have a hard time accepting I cannot return. While I have full faith that my knights can defeat her, I should be there to lead them."

And, when Guinevere heard the news... he could not think of the pain that would bring her. She, too, had his full faith, that she would go on and rule in his stead, yet he could not allow her to suffer that as long as he still drew breath. It was always possible that he would die in battle, and they both knew that. However, he was very much alive. "Also, I have a wife," he added quietly. "I should be back with her, as well." It was sharing too much, but there were too many reasons he did not belong on this island.

Katherine listened carefully, exchanging a glance with her uncle here and there. The story sounded very close to her own heart. She might not have been around when her family had been torn apart but she was faced with the remains of that battle every day and from the way he spoke there was clearly a history there whether it was bound to their families, friends or matters of romance. "Guilt is not that easily distributed," she said quietly. "But I am sorry that it happened to you, it must be hard to fight someone you seemed to held dear."

The sympathy would have been appreciated no matter what, but seemed to be worth that much more even though he knew Katherine was a different person from the one she so strongly resembled. Permitting himself the small happiness despite knowing better, Arthur merely nodded. "It is what must be done."

Wishing not to be facing this particular problem at the moment, he continued, "Speaking of what must be done, a place of residence was mentioned...?" While he hoped this was a temporary situation, he could hardly stay in this street for an indefinite time.

Thor raised one of his massive hands and pointed down the street, then gestured around with a quick and choppy motion. He was not a graceful man like his father or elegant in motion like his brother and mother. He simply was.

"Anywhere you go that is an empty hearth may become yours," the god said. "There are tall buildings with many units at the heart of the city, smaller on the way."

Humans and their sense of destiny. In Kat's mind nothing had to be done - there were only choices. But humans used terms like good and evil as if they alone had the power to decide 'what had to be done'. Sometimes it amused her. Sometimes it made her angry. Today the former happened and a quirk of an eyebrow was the only reaction to the statement.

She listened to the short exchange before she chirped in herself. "You might also want to get one of these," she said and held up her phone. "Makes communicating a lot easier." A wink. A smirk. She waited for the confused questions.

Arthur was surprised by Thor's answer. In his experience, nobody just took over a residence; it would have to be given, purchased, or let. All the same, this was definitely not a normal place, so maybe land rights were not a worry here. (Which was just as well, with the number of other concerns he was experiencing at the moment.) "What of the landowners?" He did not have any gold on him just then, as it was not exactly something one brought into battle, so he could not pay for a room just then.

Or food, but perhaps he could hunt later on.

He squinted slightly at the object Katherine held up. "What is that?"

Thor shook his head. "Nay. There are no landowners here. Only those who reside in a residence currently. You take what you need here. It is free and plenty. The only effects you'll want for is company and home." The god then looked at the phone and huffed, crossing his arms.

"Human devices for conversation over great distance," he said. "Katherine can explain. I despise the trinket."

Katherine could not help but to chuckle. Her uncle was indeed hopeless with the trinket and frankly, she encouraged it. There were things on the internet he did not need to read. "You despise it because you haven't got the foggiest how to operate it," she teased. Banter was hard to resist for her. She pointed a thumb at Thor and shook her head. "Buttons - they scare him. But, my dear Arthur, this will help you a lot." She unlocked the screen, quickly flashed it to him and then rang her uncle. Demonstrations were easier than explanations.

Wanting for home, Arthur reckoned, would prove to be his permanent mode in this place. Whilst it was something of a relief to hear that he did not have to pay for his food or lodging here, being that he had no means of doing so, it sounded a dodgy prospect. Generally, if things which should be dear were given away, there were strings attached.

Although, perhaps there was just one, massive string attached to this particular situation: namely, this particular situation. He could have anything he needed, but he had been transported here.

He would rather sign off on pay packets and merchants' bills, in the comfort of his own chambers.

The device which Thor disdained but Katherine displayed provided a temporary distraction. "'Conversation over great distance'?" he repeated, confused. How was that possible? Unless... surely, it could not be magic, not if it were being treated so lightly.

Thor chuckled at his niece and shook his head as he crossed his massive arms once more, shifting on his feet as he watched Arthur. He then looked down to Katherine again, giving a motion of his hand in the "king's" way.

"You best explain," he said. "It is nothing like Asgardian technology despite having similar appearances or function."

Katherine waited for the phone to ring but nothing did. "Uncle..." she sighed. Why did he never have his phone with him? Or had it run out of battery again? She turned back to Arthur and smiled brightly. "Rule one: Charge. Your. Phone. A dead phone doesn't ring." She glared daggers into her uncle and then blew a strand of hair out of her face. She doubted Arthur understood a word - lousiest advice ever. But that wasn't the point, it was a sole quip at Thor's inability to utilize human technology.

She sighed. She needed a phone. "Wait here for a moment. I need to get another phone then I can explain things better." And with that she vanished into thin air.
