After the resounding success of my little experiment on Sam Wilson I can say with certainty that it works on humans of other worlds I feel like it is high time to admit that I have indeed, been sitting on a stash of herbs that could potentially be used as [...] hallucinogenics.

But while I won't be parting with my stash of blood lotus anytime soon, I do have some dried leaves from elfroot and royal elfroot plants that I'd be willing to share. In other words, I have 'weed', 'cannabis', 'pot' and I am happy to share.

You'll have to roll the cigarettes yourselves; I smoke via pipe. If you feel squeamish about smoking it, I can brew you a tea.

And if you do accept, yes - you may head into battle and study under the influence of elfroot, but I would abstain from [...] driving. Operating heavy machinery. Sponge Bob. Yes, Sponge Bob is no good.

Be responsible, or I will make you regret it.

In my world, such matters are [...] complicated. Due to their abilities, mages are usually locked up in Circles of Magi, both for their own protection and the protection of others, and while I am not one to deny that in some Circles, mages are treated harshly and even horribly, we do receive an education that remains unparalleled in Thedas. It's not much. But something.

But to abolish a system that's been founded from Chantric religion, well. I suppose we're headed there. We shall see how it works out.

They lock you up?! That's horrible.

For our protection. We're vulnerable to the Fade, which the source of our magic, which in turn can lead to demonic possession.

Which is not desirable for anyone involved.

Oh.

Wow. That's still awful, but--wow.

Our magic is part of our DNA. We think. It's definitely internal and not external, though we can enhance everything with potions. Some people are drawn to dark magics, but that's always a choice they make, and not a possession.

Though, there is a spell that more or less allows someone to "possess" another person. It's one of the three unforgivable (and HIGHLY ILLEGAL) curses.

I do not believe any school of magic to be inherently dark, but blood magic is considered one of the more dangerous disciplines, and for most users that I've met, its use was born out of fear and desperation. Sadly, it leaves users of blood magic even more susceptible to possession. If you find an abomination, they once were a mage. Which makes it all so very sad.

I think it's best I keep to my battle magic and healer disciplines.

Blood magic is definitely dark stuff, and most of the books on such things are in the restricted section or locked away in the Ministry.

Basically--harm none unless it's self-defense.

Slightly better than 'do as you're told'.

Slightly. I think they learned that people will find ways around orders, and we shouldn't be afraid of innovation. We just need to be aware of the consequences.

Mhm. That sounds like the human condition. Or living condition, rather.

Yep, which is kinda comforting, really.
