FINAL TEAMS, FAQs, RULES, POSTING and POLLS FOR the *late* 2007 SUMMER ART Games )

Snarry art is under fire, as we are all quite aware, and is the reason we are now over at Insane Journal.

There will be NO POSTS at Livejournal.

We have an RSS FEED over there that people can watch. We thank you all for your support during our move to safer waters. That being said, the Snarry Art Games has always been chan-free. Our rules have always been: You can draw Harry [or any character] any age you want, but if you draw those same characters doing anything sexually explicit, then you must depict that character as being over 18. How you do that is the artist's choice.

Another legal issue is the question of Photo Manipulations. Walking The Plank does NOT accept photo manipulations for legal related reasons.

MASTER LIST, CLOSING GAMES!

Original poster: snarrymod

Friends of Snarry:

The 2007 [info]snarry_games Winter Games are nearly over. We have just posted the last of a Grand Total of 64 Snarry stories. We are very happy and awed by the overwhelming response and support of this project, and would like to thank everyone who has been involved. The mods, the Champions, the voters and judges, the reviewers and reporters, the affiliates. Thank you all!

We now move into our final voting phase. We will be giving everyone until 6:00pm, Thursday, May 31/07, EST, to finish their reading and voting. The polls will remain open until that time (feel free to pimp your favourite team during this time), and then will be closed to enable the Mods to begin the counting process, which should last approximately 4 days. You can also take this time to edit your votes, if necessary. Instructions on how are under the cut, where you will also find a Master List of all the submissions to help guide you to the entries that you may have missed during this month-long Snarry flurry. If you are all caught up, enjoy the Drabbles to come!

Do not think the community will be idle, because tomorrow we begin posting the Closing Games Drabbles, as well as some more Champion Interviews. We also have new Affiliates to announce, and thanks to give. Those of you who have not yet seen the wonderful Opening Games Crack!Art done by many of last year's Games Champions, do enjoy.

MOD POST - FAQs

Original poster: snarrymod

Hi there! Hope everyone is enjoying the Art Games! We certainly are. I come bearing a frequently asked question that has been touched on at this comm, but never added to the FAQs.

1. What, exactly, is ANGST? How can I vote for it?

Angst is a German word which means "anxiety" or "anguish." Technically, this is a term used in Existentialism which expresses the dread reality that the future is an unknown chasm; therefore, the choices that a person ( the existent ) makes are the determining factor in the outcome of one's future - thus, the cause for "angst." German Angst was borrowed into English with the same meanings as it has in German: 'fear, dread, anxiety, anguish'. It's related to English anger, anxiety, and anguish through Latin angor 'anguish, strangling' and angustia 'tightness, distress'. No wonder we feel a shortness of breath when we have these feelings, and they say that anxiety is just repressed anger.

In *literature*, it primarily means putting the characters (and by extension the readers) through deep emotional and possibly physical pain (characters only for the physical pain, hopefully).

There are different levels of angst, and it can be subtle as well as extreme. When you vote for 'How Angsty' a particular submission is, you should take into consideration your particular preferences, and know if they are subtle or extreme, and then vote as fairly as possible. Your voting on 'like overall' will determine whether or not the angst was to your tastes and levels.

2. What, exactly, is ROMANCE? How can I tell if an entry is romantic?

There are endless definitions of Romance:

- a soulful or amorous ideal
- expressive of, or exciting, sexual love or romance;
- A fictional mode in which the chief characters live in a world of marvels (naive romance), or in which the mood is elegiac or idyllic and hence less subject to social criticism than in the mimetic modes. The general tendency to present myth and metaphor in an idealized human form, midway between undisplaced myth and "realism."
- marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized
- having an inclination for romance : responsive to the appeal of what is idealized, heroic, or adventurous b : marked by expressions of love or affection c : conducive to or suitable for lovemaking

There are also different levels of romance, and it too can be subtle as well as extreme. So again, when you vote for 'How romantic' a particular submission is, you should take into consideration your particular preferences, and know if they are subtle or extreme, and then vote as fairly as possible. Your judging on 'like overall' will determine whether or not the romance was to your tastes and levels.

You can also go back and change your vote right up until the polls close, by clicking on the Poll #, then on "Fill Out Poll" and your old answers will come up.

I hope that answers the emails we have been receiving, and I'd like to take this opportunity to remind current ART competitors that they CANNOT VOTE in the Winter Art Games. The mods will have to null them, and that takes time that we don't have a lot of.
Thank you!

In all my excitement about this project, one thing I had not considered with regards to art was the issue of chan and photographic manipulations.
One of my trusted mods thankfully brought these important subjects up, causing me to rethink our strategy. Hence our poll.

In a Snarry story where Harry is ages 16 through 18, most people don't even bat an eyelash, but in art...a bit of a double standard, really. The results are conflicted, but our Champions are of mostly one mind, leaving us to make an executive decision.

Well. Now that all those heavy things are taken care of, how about those prompts?

We have decided, thanks to input from our Spring Authors, that the pressure of posting the same prompt against one another on a daily basis is too much, and can cause unneccessary burdens on both participants and moderators.

Therefore, we have compiled a LARGE list of prompts (of which a great many were *pilfered* from various Art comms, thank you), and ask only that you pick one, or even several, and list them here in comments, so we make keep track of which you have chosen.

However, choosing a prompt will NOT delete it from the list. There may be several people who choose the prompt that you do, perhaps even from your own team. You might have to work a little harder to make sure your take on the prompt is better. *grins*

Also, we ask that you join your respective team communities, [info]teamangst or [info]team_romance, as soon they will be released to you, thanks to the generosity and forethought of the 2006 Winter Champions, our esteemed authors. . *NEW* [info]teamangst_art and [info]teamromance_art!

Thank you!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Original poster: snarrymod

A few important announcements from the mods today.

**Firstly, to those folks trying to join either the [info]teamangst_art or the [info]teamromance_art art comms, these are private PARTICIPANTS ONLY communities (as are the Winter Participants comms). You will NOT be allowed to join, unless you are either an Participant, an Alternate or Pinch-Hitter. In that case, you will also be INVITED. Please do not join or friend these communities unless you have been invited. Thank you!

**Secondly: we are now into our LAST WEEK OF THE GAMES! We anticipate being finished with our posting by Friday or Saturday latest (North America). After that, we will allow some time (possibly a week) for judges and fans alike to catch up on their voting and reviewing. Then we will close the polls, and tally up the votes for our Medal Ceremonies!

We will be posting a final list (76 entries!), for those who wish to go back and confirm and/or adjust their initial votes, and for the entries that were missed.

If you have any questions about the voting and judging process, please check out our many FAQs.

**Thirdly: during that time, we may post a pinch hit or two that may not have made it into the Games, and some interviews of Participants that have come in since the posting began. We will also be accepting Closing Games 'Drawbles' using the Games Prompts starting now, open to anyone, should you like to try to see your art posted here during the voting hiatus! Send them to snarry DOT mod AT gmail DOT com, list the prompts you have used, include warnings and ratings, along with the Angst or Romance theme. Have fun!

Thank you, and enjoy the rest of the Games!

THE POLLS ARE NOW CLOSED!

Original poster: snarrymod

As of now, the polls are all officially closed, and the mods are furiously counting. *g*

We anticipate being finished our tallies within the next 24 hours, and the medals will be done very soon thereafter. With any luck, we should be able to present them by tomorrow evening, Pacific Standard Time!!!

We have more drabbles to come, and a special Thank You letter to the participants and Judges before that time.

Even though the polls are closed, the participants will still appreciate any reviews you may have not had time to leave during the polling process. Feel free to do so now, and check out our Drabblers and future Champions!

Cheers!

CLOSING CEREMONIES, DRAWBLES, VOTING HIATUS

Original poster: snarrymod

LET THE CLOSING CEREMONIES BEGIN!

The [info]snarry_games Summer Art Games are nearly over. We have just posted the last of a Grand Total of 76 pieces of Snarry Art. Seventy-Six! I think that may be the largest ever collection of Snape/Harry art to have ever been posted in one event. We are very happy and humbled by the overwhelming response and support of this project, and would like to thank everyone who has been involved. The Mods, the Participants, the Voters and Judges, the Reviewers, the Affiliates. Thank you all!

We now move into our final voting phase. We will be giving everyone until Friday, October 13 (North America) to finish their voting. You can also take this time to edit your votes, if necessary. Under the cut, you will find How To's to do just that. You will also find a Master List of all the entries. We have more art to post in the meantime, some wonderful Pinch Hits that were received but not required, and perhaps some Closing Ceremonies Drawbles (should we receive some), and also an Participants Interview or two that was submitted too late to post before the Games.

At the end of the week, we will shut down the polls, and the Mods will start counting. We anticipate being able to award the Medals no later than Tuesday, October 17.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Original poster: snarrymod

The [info]snarry_games inaugural run is nearly over, my fellow Snarry lovers. There is much yet to come, but in the meantime, some important notes and news!

FAQs and Drabble Contest/Closing Ceremonies announcements

1. When does the voting stop now that all of the entries have been posted?

Due to popular demand, the Judges polls will remain open for another FIVE days to allow the judges/readers to catch up. On Monday, May 22/06, we will close the polls and begin the process of tallying up the votes. We anticipate this process to take no longer than 2 days.

2. How do I find the ones I missed? How do I change my vote?

We suggest you look to the sidebar on the [info]snarry_games comm and use the links list for tags. You can also look in the Memories in our user info. To change your poll vote, you need to click the Poll number (i.e. POLL #12345-TEAM ANGST POLL - Prompt), then you can click on "Fill Out Poll". Your previous answers will come up, and you can adjust them. Don't forget to click on "Submit Poll" when you've finished.

3. When will the medals be awarded? What about the Closing Games Drabbles?

The Game medals will be awarded on or about Wednesday, May 23. The Closing Ceremonies will take place BEFORE that, due to the unexpected length of the Games. We will begin posting the drabbles tonight. Please join us as we spotlight some of the talented authors who will be participating in the next Author's Games.

4. Will the Judges Poll results be public?

The overall Team results will be calculated by 3 different mods for accuracy, then posted for the ceremonies. Individual author results are available by request to the author only, via private email.

5. What about the Summer Art Games?

We are looking forward to sending out the invites by early July, and will hopefully be up and running by August. If you are an artist, and wish to throw your name in to participate, please go fill out our Art Games Poll.

Stay tuned for some Snarry Drabbles!

The only thing constant in the world is change

Original poster: djin7

Hi!

I hope everyone is getting excited about the upcoming 2007 Games! I sure am.

Last year, when we sent out invites to join our little project to herald the Grand Re-Opening of Walking The Plank, we were expecting a much smaller response. I honestly didn't believe that many Snarry writers would be so keen to participate, given both the blow canon gave us in The Half Blood Prince, and all the fests that were already happening.

Boy, was I mistaken. Not only was I surprised with the flurry of positive responses, but the lj community expressed their desire to join in!

Well, we were chuffed, naturally, and excited. The teams ended unevenly, so a sign-up post was held to level the playing field. The response to the sign-up post was even more overwhelming. Unfortunately, we had to cap it somewhere. As the user info states, this is a limited sign up competition, by necessity. Two stories a day for nearly a month meant that most people could barely keep up.

Unfortunately, capping the teams meant that some people who had asked to play could not. We did a Lottery for those who signed up: those who were not chosen and the lovely writers who did Closing Games Drabbles for us were automatically guaranteed* an invite to this year's Games out of appreciation.

This year, we sent out those invites. We also invited last year's Champions to play again, as a thank you for their support and their excellent contributions to our project. A few authors who were invited to compete last year but were unable to, asked to be considered for this year. They received theirs as well.

The teams have increased in members by 50%. We were unable to do a general sign-up as a result.

This means two things:

  1. Based on last year's guaranteed invites alone, the 2007 Winter Snarry Games has their final teams. Thirty-three Competitors with three Alternates per team. Two stories a day for more than month.

  2. As a result of not having a lottery this year, in 2008, we are committed to having a number of spaces to be available for sign-up contestants

For now, though, there are still ways to participate.

Last year's Drabblers were among our most popular features of the Games. We welcome Closing Games Drabblers again this year, however, we can no longer guarantee* an invite to the succeeding Games. We can, however, guarantee a readership of those drabbles to the tune of more than 1400 readers, and the chance to showcase your wares using Snarry Games prompts. Details will be posted soon.

I have no words to express how thankful I am that so many people want to participate in this little fest of mine, and I truly wish I could sign up everyone who wants to play.

I still want everyone to enjoy themselves, reading and voting, writing and participating. I truly hope you do. ♥

Sincerely,

[info]djin7

FAQs, Closing Games and more

Original poster: djin7

Is everyone enjoying the Games so far? I certainly have. I would like to thank Team Romance and Team Angst for all their glorious work so far. And it has been glorious, folks.

I have been asked several questions during the recent week I would like to address.

1. When are the Games over?

We anticipate the last of the Team entries to be posted no later than Tuesday, May 9th - barring complications with late submissions. ETA: There has been complications. We are running behind 2 full days, perhaps more.

2. When will the voting stop?

Once the last prompt is posted, the mods will wait for at least 2 full days for voting to continue, then pull the polls down for tallying. We hope to have all the votes processed within 2 days.

3. What will happen then?

On or about the 15th May, we will have the Medal Award Ceremonies. After which, we will have our Closing Games, which include the drabbles done by future Snarry Champions, either those who missed out on the lottery, or Team Alternates who did not get a chance to write, and are automatically invited to the next Winter Games, after our Summer Art Gamess (TBA August 2006). Those drabbles are due by May 7, for any of you who are participating. We have already received many, and they are wonderful!

4. Can the Teams *pimp* their stories anywhere during the Games?

Absolutely! It says so in the Comm User Info, but I will reiterate it here.

Teams/authors may post or pimp their own stories wherever, but while the Games are on, they need to directly link to this community to enable the polling voting process for their teams's numbers. Failure to do so will threaten their team's chances of success!

ETA: It has come to my attention that many people are linking to off-site stories DIRECTLY. PLease do not while the games are on. Doing so will skew the author's votes! Please link to the community when reccing these stories! Thank you!

5. When can I post my story on my archive, or journal?

Anytime after the Medal Ceremonies.

6. Will the Judges Poll numbers be released to the public?

Overall Team numbers will be released during the Medal Ceremony. If an author wishes to know their individual tally for their team, they can email the mods with the request at the comm email, and we will provide it.

~*~*~*

Thank you to everyone so far for participating, both writers and readers, and making this inaugural 2006 Snarry Games a success!
