FAQs, Rules and Voting


The 2007 Snarry Winter Games will officially begin posting today, on April 14, 2007.

We will post TWO entries a day, one from each team - Wartime and Postwar, until all the stories are up: 66 stories total. We may post the novelette length stories (over 30,000 words) ONCE a day, likely on weekends, to give you more time to read them. Such as this weekend. *whistles*

At the end of it all, we will allow at least one week for the judges to have time to catch up on their voting for the Games entries. After that, we take the polls down, and the mods will begin the count. During that time and the counting process, we will also feature the Closing Games Drabbles. Feel free to join in the fun!


READER/JUDGES POLL/Rules & Regulations


WHO CAN VOTE:

Everyone who is a spectator and has a livejournal (Livejournal does not support 'anonymous' voting). You can only vote once, but you can go in and change your original vote right up until the polls are locked for the final tally.


WHO CANNOT VOTE:

Team Postwar and Team Wartime Members/Alternates and Snarry Games Mods, and those who do not have a livejournal account. However, anyone can review! And pimp. Pimp you and your teammate's entries far and wide! The more votes you get, the higher the average, the closer you get to Snarry Gold! Go Teams!

Trolls. Last year, we were very aware of several people who thought they could throw the vote by voting in extremes, or the like. We know who they are, and the counting process is slowed by the time it takes every mod to delete those votes. We have to manually count every vote, because of the text format we use, which is necessary for blind polling. Last year, during the Art Games, each entry averaged over 300 voters. We anticipate at least that number for the stories this round, so a troll vote will not do anything but make the mods angry, and waste their time while they donate countless hours of VOLUNTEER time to count the polls. Don't do it. It won't make any difference to the numbers, and a lot of people work very hard for these Games, both as participants as well as mods. Go find some other game to play. Thank you.


HOW DOES THE JUDGING POLL WORK?

Last year, our polls looked like this:



Now, they will look more like this:



This year, the Games structure has changed, and so have the polls. Note that you will now be judging the stories on the GENRES they have chosen. There are six (6) Genres, and each author can choose up to two (2) to use for their entry. The choices are: Alternate Universe/Reality (AU), Romance, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Humour, and Horror.

Only one prompt can be chosen, and the judging criteria remains the same for it.

**IMPORTANT NOTE** The first two questions must be judged impartially. You can find a story not to your personal tastes, but still appreciate that it was well representing of its genre(s) and/or prompt. Be fair when you consider these criteria, and judge responsibly. The last question is subjective; How much did YOU like this entry overall?. Here, and only here, is where your personal tastes and preferences are part of the judging process.

All of the polls will remain open at least one full week after the last entry has gone up, during which the Closing Games Drabbles will be posted. The poll results will be visible only to the Snarry Maintainer (aka djin7/snarrymod). She cannot be bought.

The counting of the polls will be as follows:

Each entry will have its own average (Average is: a value that is computed by dividing the sum of a set of terms by the number of terms).
For example:

Entry 1 (Team Wartime)

Genre(s): Average vote = 9/9
Prompt Use: Average vote = 8/9
Overall: Average vote = 9/9

Each average will then be CONVERTED to POINTS:

Grand Total = 26 points out of a possible 27.

Entry 2 (Team Wartime)

Genre(s): Average vote = 5/9
Prompt Use: Average vote = 5/9
Overall: Average vote = 7/9

Grand Total = 17 out of a possible 27 points.

Total Points (cumulative) for Team Wartime = 43 out of a possible 54. And so on...

Grand Total possible points for either Team is 891 (33 entries x 27 points).

Whichever team has the highest point total at the end WINS THE GOLD MEDAL OF SNARRY!
