TO THE SNARRY CHAMPIONS

Original poster: djin7

Some of you may have noticed that my normal reviewing habits were not present for these Games. The truth is that I have reviewed every lovely story submitted for them. I give them to you now, in an open letter to each of the Champions and Alternates.

To My Snarry Games Authors:

To: [info]amanuensis1 Team Angst Prompt: Masquerade
Crazy Man Michael

Being a fan of music, and after having listened to your inspirational song, I could actually feel where this piece was coming from. Bitter, tragic and melancholy, all wrapped up in a package that is so utterly yours and is the envy of many. Snape eating Harry’s death. Awesome. You never disappoint, and I am so chuffed that you agreed to participate for our inaugural Games. You are a master at what you do, and this story is a stellar example of it. You went above and beyond the call of duty to help your teammates, and it was appreciated and spoke of your heart as well as your work ethic. Thank you so very much.

To: [info]sansa1970 Team Romance Prompt: Masquerade
Somewhere Behind The Morning

This story was a joy to read. Often in life, we lose our perspectives, and your Harry was a prime example of what happens to so many. His lust and passion long gone, and to have Severus Snape, of all people, have to remind him of all that is good and worth living for: priceless. I laughed out loud several times while reading this, and adored the way the Slytherin in Severus outsmarted almost everyone, save those who knew him best. Thank you for joining us in our inaugural games, and thank you for the big grin you gave me.

To: [info]acidquill Team Angst Prompt: Sleep Deprivation
And Given Unto Me

You don't get your penname for nuthin'. Severus' voice and his struggle here are palpable, and you get a much better picture overall of his life as the spy. Everyday for decades must have been this same struggle for him, on some level. In reading your story, I feel much closer to that man who is in the books, the Severus Snape, enigma, who is still, after all, human. Harry's suffering seems almost inconsequential to that which Severus struggles with during Harry's captivity. Very powerful, and a wonderful open ending, a favourite of mine when reading angst. Thank you.

To: [info]the_con_cept Team Romance Prompt: Sleep Deprivation
Sleepless In The Dungeons

I have always been a big fan of yours, and I am especially grateful you agreed to participate. As always, your rapier wit and fast action and dialogue swept me off my feet, grinning the whole time. I adored the way you had Severus confess his sins, and your Baffled!Harry is second to none. A read that will amuse and entertain me repeatedly, thank you so much for all that you do, and joining us!

To: [info]naatz Team Angst Prompt: Vertigo
Snuff Out

You took a big leap to join our Games, I know, as you are new to Snarry, and have had little experience in fanfiction contests. You did an admirable and outstanding job of coming through for your team with this breathtaking and poetic piece, and being there to help with all the beta work and support at the [info]teamangst comm. Your participation was exactly what I was hoping for when I started this project, and I am very thankful to you for throwing yourself into it the way you did.

To: [info]empathic_siren Team Romance Prompt: Vertigo
Falling

Your usage of this prompt was outstanding, and I would have given highest marks, were I able to vote. Harry's ascension and descent, all wrapped up in a tightly wound plot, and Severus being the hero. Lovely. The physical break-throughs, and having to break Harry in order to rebuild him, so awesome. Thank you so much for participating in these Games.

To: [info]loupgarou1750 Team Angst Prompt: A Test Of Wills
Dangling Conversation

With your story, my not-so-seekrit nefarious plot to seed the Snarry fandom with more classics has been exposed. This-THIS-is the stuff legends are made of. Wonderful. I have no words, really, suffice it to say that this story should be added to those Snarry Rec lists in short order, and the HP fandom is all the better for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

To: [info]rakina Team Romance Prompt: A Test Of Wills
They Say Miracles Are Past

This story makes the romantic ‘knight-in-shining-armour’ lover in me sigh happily. You had many very interesting and original plot points: Horcrux!Harry and Voldemort's demise are only two stellar examples. Very touching scenes permeate this piece. A lot of work went into this story, and your pictures were a wonderful and thoughtful addition. Thank you so much for joining us!

To: [info]vain Team Angst Prompt: Proving His Independence.
The White Door

Vain. *whimper* You always-ALWAYS-have that special tone and the killer blow that makes me cry ache. I knew you would be like an Angst!Ninja for your team, and this story is like that final blow in a life or death contest: just when you think you've got the winning edge, you don't, and you're left wondering, "How did they sneak up on me like that?" just before you take your last breath. You're aces, and I know you struggled with this prompt, and your final story was all that I hoped for. Deadly. Awesome. Thank you.

To: [info]strlingdragnfly Team Romance Prompt: Proving His Independence.
Mirrored Desire

Your Severus was a very complicated man, but with very simple desires. I often picture him that way. I loved your Pragmatic!Harry being the one to finally show Snape the light, to give him hope. Very nicely done, using one of, if not the best of magical objects JKR has ever written about. Thank you, and well done!

To: [info]eeyore9990 Team Angst Prompt: Superstition
Inspectum Animus (Look Into My Heart)

I loved this! Just picturing Severus, being superstitious to the point of obsession. Wonderful. Loved how you got him and Draco back into Hogwarts, his and Harry’s slow-to-trust negotiations. And another one of my beloved open-ended angst stories. I love them because depending on the mood I’m in, I can imagine it ending any way I like. Your positive attitude did not go unnoticed, either. Great work for your Team! We will be seeing your Drabbles soon, as you submitted for those as well. *g*

To: [info]hel_bee Team Romance Prompt: Superstition
Harry Potter and the Superstitious Potions Master

HAAHAHA! Your story tickled me pink. I loved how you used the Twins’ usual prankery in such a way, and the compulsion charm on the Wedding book was priceless! Harry watching Severus as if he were a mad animal at the zoo is probably how many a man thinks as he watches his beloved descend into wedding madness. Awesome, and thank you so much for coming out of your ‘sabbatical’ to join us. It means a lot.

To: [info]melora98 Team Angst Prompt: Always Hungry.
Always Hungry

Oooh. I really loved this original idea of yours. And how lucky Harry is, yet again, to have fallen into the only Death Eater trap that was set by the only Death Eater that is loyal to Harry. I thought often about how it may have been possible to get them both out, but I realised that Snape never does anything by halves, and no doubt this trap would have no safety. Extraordinary story, a credit to the Angst team, thank you so much for joining us!

To: [info]bar_bar_ella Team Romance Prompt: Always Hungry
Anything Interesting

Barb, I am a huge fan of your many Snapes, and he is as awesome here as he is in all your tales. Exactly how I like to picture him, a darker, more cynical Basil Fawlty, in an ideal anonymous setting where he is able to get on with his life after the War. Harry and his situation, as well. But neither has really moved on. Until they do, together! Awesome. I loved the ambience of your story, and found every location you described a living, breathing thing. Thank you so much for agreeing to participate!

To: [info]cluegirl Team Angst Prompt: Courage
Blood and Fire

I have never been happier at the strong-arming of fen to coerce people. Case-in-point: Forcing you to agree to participate. *grin* Snarry fandom is richer for it, as is always the case with your work. What an outstanding story, long and rich, full of the exquisite angst that has become your much-loved trademark. I felt equally sad for both Harry and Snape, both victims, neither knowing how to break the cycle. This is another classic, and I thank you again for agreeing to participate, kicking and screaming as the case may be, and giving us this beautiful work.

To: [info]meri_oddities Team Romance Prompt: Courage
Small Acts

I loved how you used Wizarding etiquette in such a way to necessitate, nay, force- our boys to talk to each other like human beings. Novel, and something that I have had yet to read elsewhere. It seems likely that Harry would have to grow up very quickly, and knowing these things about the Wizarding world would likely be an important step for him, and kudos you for bringing that up. I adored how Harry comes to his realisations at the end, very nice. Another fantastic story, and a boon for Team Romance. Thank you! For the gift, as well. *smooch *

To: [info]stellahobbit Team Angst Prompt: Sacrifice.
On A Clear Day

I have to say, when you play with angst, the result is always extraordinary. With this story, you painted this idyllic and romantic place where Snape and Harry could live, happily ever after. And it is: The. Most. Depressing. Place. I have ever seen. This world, this scenario: the last man on earth, no-one to say otherwise- it brings to the forefront the thing all Snarry lovers fear, deep down. I won’t mention it here, because we all know what I am talking about. Outstanding. Thank you so much for taking a break from your other fandoms to come back to us, and give us this wonderful gift.

To: [info]snakeling Team Romance Prompt: Sacrifice
The Price Of Peace

I love-LOVE-forced bonding fics. The best thing to me here is that it isn’t a DARK forced bonding story. Heh. Here, they have a CHOICE and have the honourable intentions that go with it. Awesome! I love how Snape takes the initiative here, and mentors Harry as well, in those life ways that Harry simple hasn’t had the time to learn. I really enjoyed it, thank you. Oh, yeah…STRAWBERRIES! *woot *
Thank you again for your technical prowess during those dark ‘I can’t do this!’ nights.

To: [info]snapetoy Team Angst Prompt: Things Left Unsaid.
Things Left Unsaid

You decided to use real-life angst, the kind that happens to people everywhere. Who hasn’t loved and lost? Had to deal with a painful break-up, had to leave a lover, hope lost? It is the most painful kind of angst, because (hopefully) death and torture is something we can only imagine, this is something we can relate to. And it makes it oh-so effective. I loved this story. Very much. Thank you, especially for partaking in this fest when you were VERY busy running Walking The Plank. And thank you for that, too.

To: [info]tiranog Team Romance Prompt: Things Left Unsaid
Whispers Of Intent

Another great Snarry writer lured out of a shiny new fandom for this fest, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Just so you know: Top!Harry? One of my favourite things EVER. This story was wonderful, and I especially loved their very human fragile moments, doing or saying things for the first time in a new relationship, terrifying, and you captured them oh-so well. So great. Loved it, and thank you so much for joining in the (what I hope was)fun.

To: [info]maeglinyedi Team Angst Prompt: Pensieve Memories
No Good Deed

I was stunned at how IC your characters were. All of them. And I loved how you fleshed out the minor characters, like Tonks and Kinglsey. This story made me want to cuddle poor Harry over and over again, and I am so glad that you ended it the way you did. The fine angst balanced in the end, leaving us wanting more, but feeling sated. Great use of the prompt, the quid pro quo. Your Snarry has always held a special place for me, and I thank you yet again for giving us another classic, and working so hard for this fest.

To: [info]montana_dan Team Romance Prompt: Penseive Memories
Another One

Montana, you know how I love your Snarry, so I won’t gush here. What I loved most about this story is the way you bring us closer to the people in Harry and Severus’ life, with such few words. I walked away knowing Brian and Rose and this Draco, and I knew how important each was to our boys. I also knew that though the road had not necessarily been easy, it had been full of love. A lovely story, and I wish I could see into Harry’s Pensieve, too. *grin * Thank you for joining us.

To: [info]gmth Team Angst Prompt: Correspondence
Lurker In The Gaps

Gina, it was very innovative to use a lesser known definition of the prompt. This packed a big punch in a short time, I finished it feeling like I’d been pushed off a cliff. You are so damned good at that. Wonderful. Also, you brought a tear to my eye. Damn you. Thank you. You did your team proud. Also, how the HELL do you do this every year?

To: [info]venivincere Team Romance Prompt: Correspondence
Peer Review

This was wonderful! I have always loved stories written in this way, where letters and dispatches show so much happening over time. Your Snape was classic! You can so picture his affrontery! Hah! But poor Harry. So strong while being so heartbroken, yet so sure he was doing the only thing to get Severus’ attentions. Thankfully, it was. Very heartwarming and charming story, it made me smile the whole way through. Thank you. Extra kudos for your excellent work with your Captaincy duties with [info]team_romance, you were a great help to me again and again.

To: [info]damned_queen Team Angst Prompt: Nightmares.
Swansong for a Raven

Indeed, your resulting ending is the thing of nightmares. As a big fan of Harry, this is one of the worst things to imagine. I liked your Snape voice, and was torn to pieces by his sacrifice, and of the means. I can only hope his healing eventually comes, and he will remember what he and Harry had before Voldemort ruined it all. Bastard.
Your hard work is a credit to your team. Thank you for being a part of our inaugural games!

To: [info]anise_anise Team Romance Prompt: Nightmares
A Hero’s Welcome

Yours was one of my favourite stories, I found myself reading it several times. Like so many of your stories, you paint us the one scene of exquisite and painful angst amidst the sex and love; sharp as a knife slicing through your heart. Then you kiss our boo-boos and make it all go away. I love that so much. Your Severus is a stoic and stubborn man, but filled with passion. Your Harry complements him perfectly. It was so sweet. And the sex was damned HAWT. Thank you for taking part in this, and for giving us such wonderful story.

To: [info]treewishes Team Angst Prompt: Scruples
More Than Words (Or, Four Announcements and One Defining Moment. Maybe Two.)

I love the way you incorporated all four Hogwarts Houses into your story. I also like how you merged Muggle technology with Magic. It would be very smart of JKR to do the same, in her penultimate story, would it not? All for one, and one for all? We shall see.
Awesome, and great work for your team!

To: [info]diagonalist Team Romance Prompt: Scruples
Tactical Invitation

Your Snape here is priceless. His inability to forgive Harry for suffering in his place, his inner Slytherin bucking against the ‘survivor’s guilt’. I love how Harry has a heart the size of Europe, to forgive and forget. Lovely, and a story I will read again and again. Thank you so much for taking the time to join us, and producing another wonderful Snarry for the fandom!

To: [info]escapisms aka Lux, Team Angst Prompt: 7 Year Itch
Exception To The Rule

You took what could have been a heavy-handed angst prompt, and turned it into something delicate and wonderful. All the little things: their first ever coupling, making Severus cry, right to the big things: the guilty letters found in pockets, major evidence, and gave them to us in such a way as to make them all hit straight to the heart, without using a hammer. I loved this fic, and I love your work, and I am so glad you agreed to participate. Wonderful job!

To: [info]elanor_isolda Team Romance Prompt: 7 Year Itch
Seven Year Itch

A hard prompt for Romance, to be sure. Someone less brave would not touch on the hard subjects this prompt entails, perhaps not have it happen at all. But not you. We are all flawed, and you made Snape and Harry flawed equally. In doing so, you softened a blow that could have made this too heavy on the angst, but instead gave us all of some of the most wonderful reunion romance there ever was. Excellent job! Thank you so much!

To: [info]mana_sama Majenta, Team Angst Prompt: Last Dance
Say It Properly

This was wonderful! So heartbreaking and real. You really stepped up as a Team Alternate, taking over mid way through the Games to help, and what a way to do so! Outstanding. It was very real, quiet and sorrowful angst, and you painted a picture with your words. What a great story, and a way to come through for your team! Thank you so much.

To: [info]dementordelta Team Romance Prompt: Last Dance
Dance Partners

MMMMM. Loving me some Delta. This hit many of my buttons, and you walk an angst tightrope often, making the eventually happy something to behold. I LOL’d several times during this, and I really loved the stoicism of poor Severus, who has obviously worked long and hard to be happy, only to have it almost slip from his grasp. Again. But then—caught, like the elusive snitch! *happy sigh * You never disappoint, and this is a classic example of your signature Snarry. You make our boys jump through their hoops, but they finally get there. And by extension, so do we. Thank you so much for being a part of these Games.

To: [info]hasaidreamer Team Angst Prompt: Ancestry
Shadow Of Our Forefathers

Celtic Mythology is a pet hobby of mine. Being of Irish descent, and loving most things Celtic, I was thrilled to see you weave that into your story. Another outstanding original horcrux, I really enjoyed the layers of this story. You made our boys struggle mightily, and did not give them an easy road. Excellent work, and an asset to your team, with your cheering and support. Thank you.

To: [info]femmequixotic Team Romance Prompt: Ancestry
Gladly Beyond Any Experience

SQUEEEE! I’m from Vancouver, you know. And you made me like Snaco. Snaco. *tilts head * I found myself very close to the characters you gave us, I feel as if I know them personally. You made them attainable, and lovable despite their flaws, and even made me love OC’s. Wonderful detail and remarkable storytelling. I am so glad you agreed to join us. What a marvellously original Snarry to sink our teeth into. Thank you.

To: [info]sazzlette Team Angst Prompt: Déjà vu
Now the sky is blue

Amazing that you said so much without any dialogue at all. Tight and oppressive, and such beautiful imagery. Gorgeous, and I loved it. Truly outstanding, and absolutely worth the wait *wink *. Another one that did Angst proud. Great work!

To: [info]ziasudra_fic Team Romance Prompt: Déjà vu
Cockroach Clusters, Please

This was a wonderful roller coaster ride, and using a young Snape to help Harry get over his hatred was a stroke of genius. Loved it, the way Harry finally and unequivocally understands. Finally. Awesome. Though the ending may seem sad, it gave me a sense of hope and future promise. Which is all anyone can ask for. Thank you so much. Also for your extra work over at [info]team_romance, you are all kinds of awesome.

This story freaked me right out. I’m not kidding. You described Snape so well in his…state...that I literally had a ‘twilight zone’ moment where I actually lived it. *wriggles fingers* Which freaked me out. And was so awesome at the same time. This was an original and exciting story, and everybody should read it. EVERYBODY. That is all.
Rex, you were a huge help and asset to me as the UberCaptain of [info]teamangst, and I really appreciated all your help and support. You did a fantastic job! Thank you.

I really loved this story. I read it several times, and each time, I saw another little detail that showed me just how meticulous and wonderful your building of the dollhouse was. Awesome. I look very much forward to seeing anything you write in the future, you write so beautifully. Thank you for giving such a wonderful gift to Snarry.

Thyself A Memory

Ah, Nim. May I preface this review with an apology? I never stopped having faith in you to produce a worthy and eloquent story for this fest, even if I did push you a little hard. I wasn’t disappointed, of course. You may still want to kill me, however. * g*
Your story was all I hoped for and more. It also played on that paranoid part of me that thinks the government is out to get all of us. Oddly, we share the same Government, you and I. This tale was outstanding and original, and the true homage to Severus Snape’s will of steel. I am left with some optimism along with the sorrow, wanting to believe that Harry is too powerful to be caught off guard by anyone other than Snape, and Snape himself will overcome, and take his rightful place at Harry’s side. A girl can hope, right? Thank you so very, very much.

To: [info]bethbethbethTeam Romance Prompt: Posthumous Request
Going Postal

This was so much fun to read! I adored it, and felt that if anyone was going to do that, it would be Albus. I would not be surprised if he doesn’t show up in Book 7 with a trick just like it. How great would that be? Also: drunk!Snape! Hahah! I LOL’d several times during your story, and that is one of my favourite things. This was wicked, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I would hug you if you were closer to me. You also did a fantastic job backing up [info]venivincere as Co-Captain of [info]team_romance, and you should be proud. I am.

Auto da fé

You know I love you, right? When you left me as a Mod to become an Champion, I was going to kill you. But then you gave me this story. This wonderful, beautiful story. Some people may shy away from it because of the title, and they really shouldn't. It’s not what you think. It’s gorgeous, and wonderful, and sad, and heartbreaking…and there is still hope. I loved it. LOVED IT. You made Team Angst proud, and for that, I will no longer kill you. *smooch* Thank you so much, Leila.

In The Fullness of Time

You wrote a very close-to-the-heart account her of what happens when two people finally commit to each other. Only those who have tried to take this plunge would really know that. But with this story, you give us a fabulous view through that window, complete with all the wonderful ups and horrible downs that go with it. An excellent entry for Team Romance, and an extra special thank you for doing this as an alternate when your team needed you. Thank you ever so much.

To: [info]nicole_snape Team Angst Prompt: Labyrinth
Last Breath

You stepped up as a last minute alternate to help your Team when they needed you. You had troubles in RL, causing you to have to work harder, and faster. You then allowed your Team to step in and help in the nth hour, which is what this fest was all about, and we all appreciate the result. A short, but powerful, piece; it is more like a beautiful poem. I really liked it, and you should be proud. Thank you.

To: [info]ella_bane Team Romance Prompt: Labyrinth
Under His Spell

For as long as I have known you, you have promised me a Snarry. Now, you have delivered. And oh my god did you ever. I ADORED this. You have such a talent for penning mystery and intrigue, peppering your stories with it, between bouts of heart-wrenching angst, romance, and drop dead sex. This one has all those things and more, and it is long and wonderfully layered. I will save this and read it again and again. Awesome. That you dedicated it to me makes me happier than you can ever know. Thank you, Ella, from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you all, so very much. Good luck, and remember that tomorrow: there are no losers, only people who worked hard to put out excellent stories, and made this fandom a richer place for it.

I certainly am.

Cheers!
