I'm sure that's making Harley cranky, too. As long as she stays away from you, I'll be fine. [She smirked up at him, taking his hands to pull herself up. Brushing the dirt off of her knees and the leaves out of her white dress, she tangled her fingers with his and smiled softly. Swinging their arms a little back and forth.] I don't want to block you out for good, baby. I never want to block you out again. I hope you don't mind that you might not be able to block me out either.

I don't even know if Harley is around anymore, actually. We lost contact while I was going through some stuff. [Eddie figured Harley would come back around. Rogues weren't joined at the hips. They asked for things when they wanted it. Plain and simple.] And, you don't have to worry about Ivy. You've proven you can do the natural beauty thing in spades. [He lifted his hand up so she'd twirl for him and then pulled her close. Eddie held her hand like he never wanted to let it go. He was letting her in piece by piece and it thrilled him a little, scared him plenty, but he didn't make it stop. Eddie wanted to believe her intentions. He had to if they were going to make it.]

I only wish I could feel what you do. [Eddie said after a moment, letting her hand go to kneel down in front of the pond that shimmered with magic. He held onto the edge of her dress, proving he wasn't going to let her go for long.]

Selina and I spoke about Harley a while back. She's having a hard time, I think. Maybe we should reach out to her? [Her thumb grazed the back of his hand, and a flicker of guilt hit her stomach. Another thing about being selfish. She felt like she lost a lot of her people in the past couple of months. More so than her years upon years fighting a war on Earth-3. But she forgot all about that and smiled at his compliment. The spin had laughter tinkle out of her, bouncing off the trees surrounding them.] I think you're distracted by my fairy glow right now. [But she spun around, and when he pulled her close, she could feel the breath get knocked right out of her. She smiled brightly, blonde hair tinkling in the sunlight. She knew it was going to be a long road, but she wasn't going to give up.]

I can just tell you. [She stepped forward, further into his reach, and she tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling him close. Pulling until his head leaned against her thigh.] Maybe there's a way we can share it. [Kicking off her shoes, she dipped her toes into the warm pond.]

Eh, rogues are terrible at pow-wows. If she needs me for something, she'll find me. It's always been that way. [Eddie ran his hand through the water and felt it curiously blend with his magic. It wasn't the same, like cream and coffee, but it made such pretty swirls of color. When she tugged at his hair, he kissed her leg and then leaned against it, searching the pond for a frog or a fish.] Baby, you know you can't just tell me.

[Eddie looked up at her and smiled softly.] Getting you to tell me has been a struggle since day one. And, I don't mind. I don't, not most of the time. [He kissed her leg again and wiggled his fingers at a curious fish.] Maybe there is a way, though. I don't think my magic can do it without hurting you, but this world might hold the answer.

Okay. [Her fingers tangled tightly into his hair, and she leaned into him slightly. Stephanie mourned all the lost connections over the last couple of months, but little by little she would repair and fortify them all. Or at least as much as she hoped.] I know I need to fix my relationships with a lot of people. She's one of them. One in a long, long list of people. [Principal of which was him, of course. With a sigh, she looked at him as he spoke.]

Is it good to be a riddle for your husband though? [She mused, kneeling after he kissed her leg again, and her fingertips touched the water too. She swirled her fingers across until they reached where Eddie's magic spread across the surface. Swirls of purple mixed with his in a strangely perfect sort of harmony.] Agnes will know. Or the fairies. I'm sure they'd love to help us out. [She glanced up and towards the tittering balls of light in the trees above them. Totally busted, the fairies squealed and flew away to another tree just a little further away. Steph laughed, shaking her head and shifting closer to him and leaning closer to the water.] I'm sorry it's been a struggle. I'd blame it on being a bat, but I can't really fault that entirely.

Worry about you first. They'll understand, right? [Eddie didn't know. He had a limited view on the bat family and the rest of the world. There were the few people he could call friends, the few bat family that felt like family and that was it.]

Maybe that's why I fell in love with you in the first place. [Eddie teased and leaned over to kiss her shoulder when she knelt next to him.] Things are getting better, right? [A question because he couldn't read what she felt, he could only really guess.]

[She shrugged because who knew if they would understand these days.] I feel like I've been doing a lot of worrying about myself lately. [But that didn't discount that she still needed to worry about herself. That there was still something broken in her that was beginning to heal. Shaking her head, she wiggled her fingers in the water.]

Har har. [She smirked regardless and leaned her shoulder into his kiss. She heaved a sigh and leaned the side of her head on his shoulder, finding his hand in the water.] They are getting better. I think. [She pulled back to look at him.] Are they getting better for you?

They'll understand. Even if Christmas is a disaster. What if we just invite all of them over, anyway? [Eddie was talking like things were fine and he was all too aware of it. He was taking a leap towards believing, towards good and it made him feel like racing his chrome green car with dollar bills flying out the back. He made a soft noise, a loving one because spending time with her made him love Stephanie Nashton.]

They're getting better. I think it's getting better. [He rubbed his nose on her shoulder and looked up at her with puppy dog browns.] I'm scared.

I was thinking Thanksgiving, too. Thanksgiving could be a test for Christmas? [She nudged at his nose, kissing the tip of it and feeling that love wash over her. An easy smile curled up her mouth, and she tugged at his fingers underneath the water. She loved him, too, and she was so fucking glad he was learning how to feel the same way again.]

It's getting better, baby. [She assured both of them, and then took in those wide puppy dog eyes with concerned blues. Her dripping hand came out of the water, wet fingers sliding into his hair and mouth turning down.] Scared about what exactly, baby?

[She sighed, biting down on her lip a little as her head tilted to the side. She could feel that doubt underneath all the good warmth she caused. Her blue eyes held a world of sympathy, and her grip turned a little harder in his hair.] I can make it harder to do so if you're really scared. [But, she shook her head.] I don't want you to be scared about that. I want you to be comfortable with letting me in. Happy. Like all those years ago when we started talking over the comms because you broke into my line.

[He smirked at the rough tug at his hair and the threat to make it worse.] No, baby. I want this it's just- [He opened both eyes to look at her. Staring a little too long before his gaze flickered off towards a curious fairy circling overhead.] Things can never go back to how it was before. This isn't the first time. After you said no, do you remember that? I could barely look at you some days. I got over it, thinking I wasn't going to get burned again. [And then he laughed so sadly he felt a bit ashamed for it.]

[Steph was unabashed by his long stare, barely blinking as her hand slid out of his hair and down his cheek. There were a couple of fairies lazily floating by, but her only focus was her man. She sighed sadly, looking down at the damp ground underneath him.] Of course I remember that. I wish I could forget it, but I can't. [She shook her head at his sad laugh, cupping his face in both of her hands.] I'm so sorry. And I wish I could make you believe any promise I make, but I don't think that's possible right now, is it?

[He offered her a smile because there wasn't anything she could do.] This isn't the last straw and when you think about it, you didn't do anything unforgivable. We'd never cheat on each other, you never abused me. I need to learn that this is going to hurt sometimes and I need to be okay with that. You aren't my perfect little wife. I can't capture you in a moment. I don't want you to be.

[She tugged him forward, so that his forehead pressed against hers.] I don't want to be your perfect little wife. I don't want to be a perfect little anything. But I want to be perfect for you. And maybe that's going to take some time to get back to, but I want that more than anything in the world. [She cracked an eye open to look at him.] But I'll never abuse you, and I'll never cheat on you, Eddie.

[He raised a single finger up in the air.] We'll put this under lessons learnt and try not to hurt each other like we did this year. [Eddie smiled at the tug, all warm like honey and he tugged her back down towards the grassy ground. Why even bother trying to get up anymore? All he wanted was to be in her arms, to roll around on the grass until their skin stained with green and dew drops.] I'll never abuse you and I'll never cheat on you, Stephanie Nashton. [And, that? That sounded like a vow.]

[An affirmative nod, and she smiled brightly when he pulled her down to the dewy grass. Arms wrapping around his shoulders and one leg hitching up so that her thigh pressed against his hip. Like they weren't in the middle of some forest surrounded by curious little fairies.] Noted. We could put it into the post-nup if you want. [She nudged her nose to his and tried to tease a kiss out of him.] We can add all of that to the post-nup. And any other vows you want to make right now.

[The tease for a kiss worked. He tilted his chin up and pressed his lips against hers, deepening the kiss with only a beat-beat of hesitation from his clockwork heart. Oh, letting her back in so fast wasn't the plan, it was never how he wanted this to go. He thought that not touching would make them understand each other, but the opposite was true. Her in his arms made him see her for what she was, made their problems tangible. Fixable. Someday soon, he promised and she could feel it in his heartbeat. It was a thread of trust he wanted to tangle back up inside his head and just couldn't.] Honestly, baby, I can't even remember our vows in the first place. [He teased and then looked up at her.] I vowed to be good to you. I already broke that.

[A noise rumbled out of her throat, eyes drifting shut and fingers tangling in his hair at the nape of his neck. She shouldn't have let go so easily, she should have been strong for the both of them, but Stephanie was so hungry for his affection she couldn't deny herself it if he was giving it to her. It was reaffirmation that things were getting better. Not good, not fixed, but better. Her blue eyes were cloudy with a want for something more, for him, but she just kissed the corner of his mouth. Softly.] We could renew our vows. Right here and now, we could do it. [Her hands smoothed over his shoulders, and she kissed the corner of his jaw.] We could make new ones.

[There was a very innocent run of his fingers up her thigh and under that fairy dress. It had been a long time since he had been that bold and frankly he missed touching her ass. It was arguably his favorite part of her body and it had been a self-sanctioned off limits since things imploded with them.] I don't think I see the point in vows anymore. [Eddie whispered and there was so much clarity in his dark eyes. That genius shining through for only her to see.] Why would I ask you to always love me? What if I get worse? What if I lose my mind?

[Steph tried to frown at his wandering hand, but the line wibbled into something pleased and even a little smarmy in a way that usually reflected in his dark brown eyes. She could sense that clarity, that understanding from him, and it washed over her in pleasant waves that almost made her seem assured herself. Still, she shook her head.] But I'll still love you. I'm always going to love you, in spite of everything. [Her voice had dropped to a whisper too, like they were sharing secrets that would stay in this forest forever if they were too loud. A hand skated down his front, and she tried to remember the grooves and etches of muscle and scars across his body.] I don't think vows are pointless. But I do think they shouldn't be the focus. We know what to do. We know what we need.

[She caught his mouth in another embrace, this one needy and pushing like he was giving her life just through his kiss. Before they could get too carried away, however, one of the fairies flew overhead and cleared her throat. Steph separated their lips with a pop and looked over Eddie's shoulder at the little creature overhead. Instead of saying anything though, she flitted off, sparkling lights and bells tinkling. A dust of magic left in her wake for the Nashtons to follow. The blonde on the ground raised her eyebrow up and then glanced at Eddie in a silent question.]

I don't want this to end up like typical Gotham love. When it gets to that point, it stops being about the other person. It turns into taking. [And Eddie had enough taking from her to last a lifetime. He still remembered what it felt like to feast on her soul, on her life. His mouth turned down into a serious frown and he looked older. Mature beyond what he normally allowed anyone to see.] If things get bad, I want you to leave. I want you to cut those ties. This love isn't worth your life, no love is. I want you to be strong and happy and good, with or without me.

[He knew she'd never agree, but planting the seed in her mind had to be enough. When the fairy twinkled behind them, he turned to look at it annoyed that it was interrupting this nice make out session. Eddie hadn't been with Stephanie in months and this right here, rolling around in the grass, was as close as they ever got. How dare that fairy ruin things?] Goddamnit. [He murmured and knew his curiosity would take over eventually.]

[Stephanie blinked up at him, lips dipping into a frown as well. Because she didn't ever think it'd get that bad. Bad enough for her to have to leave, for her to lose her life. She shook her head in dissonance, in almost disbelief, and touched his jaw gently.] It's never going to get there, baby. I trust you, okay? I trust you. [She shook her head again before rolling her eyes affectionately at his frustration. It had been a long time since there had been anything as playful and daring as this, but she felt like there was actually a chance to recapture that now. That this wouldn't just be a string cut off and left to dangle.]

C'mon. [She smiled, kissing the corner of his mouth before nudging him off of her and rolling off the ground. Somehow, the grass and dirt just enhanced her look, and she only brushed off the biggest bits before holding her hand out to Eddie, not even bothering to put on her slippers again.] Let's go see what the fuck this is about. [The fairy's flight left a trail easy enough to follow and lead to a curiously glowing tree with sap oozing out of the orifices. The fairy was there, waving with a smirk towards one of the lines of sap dripping down. Steph wrinkled her eyebrows together, but stepped forward to touch the sticky mess.]

[He tried to protest that it could, that he didn't know if things were going to stay good, but she wasn't going to hear it, was she? Eddie didn't know if in the depths of being a terrible human being he could tell her to get out while she still could, so he had to do it now, right? And, he trusted Stephanie not to hang onto something bad. It just wasn't written into her canon.]

Alright, alright. [Eddie followed after her, adjusting his clothes and brushing off pieces of grass. He stopped at the sticky sap tree and gave the fairy a look.] You interrupted a make out session for this? [Eddie asked and immediately swiped his finger in the amber goo, popping it in his mouth without caring if it was dangerous or not. Sticking weird stuff in his mouth wasn't anything new.]

Eddie! [She chastised, waving her hand at him and trying to grab his hand before he popped it in his mouth. Completely failing, of course.] Baby. [She grabbed his wrist and looked at him with wide blue eyes. Maybe she shouldn't have been surprised but there she was. Worried and concerned and pissed that she didn't stop him in time. But she rolled her eyes all the same, taking his hand in hers and tugging.] You can just push me up on one of these trees. [She eyed him like she was waiting for something weird or bad to happen.]
