[Almost as though Beau had predicted what Shane was going to say, he was already moving to close the window behind the other guy, giving another glance at the door that was splintering, that was starting to give way despite their efforts at barricading it shut.] We need to hurry up here. They're almost through the door.

[He turns away from the window, trying to put it behind him, to not think about it.] You wanna hand? [It's directed towards Tess, who's being ushered to the front of the line.] Figure we could help lower you to the ground. Make the drop a little less, yeah?

[Shane can't hear her so she mutters, even if she's so damn glad he's here.] Fucking acting like we fight zombies all the time. [But she's moving, glaring down at the drop like it's the house's fault she might break her leg today. She almost readies herself to jump when Beau speaks up.]

Y-yeah. [She did want a hand, even if she thought Beau looked like his arms would break off if he tried to hold her. Adjusting her bag strap diagonally across her body, white sheet tucked tightly atop it, she crouches down onto the roof.] Try not to drop me, yeah? Not too hard at least. [And then she's shimmying off the side, trying not to look down or think about all the ways this could go fucking wrong. Finally resting her elbows on the roof, she lifts her hands to grasp Beau's, holding him tightly before letting her weight go.]

[Ford just kept saying whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck over and over in his head, and it's been four hours in this nightmare and really, it's a total miracle he's still alive. For Ford, his miracles number three and they are the following: functioning headphones with an electronic beat pumping through them, a backpack with a bottle of water in it, and a red bit of wood and metal that had saved his life no fewer than three times in the last twenty minutes. Ford had never been a violent person, and he was pretty sure the people trying to murder him weren't alive, but he had still thrown up twice as many times as he'd defended himself.

He watched from the front room of a neighboring house as every Murder on Autopilot person turned around and headed across the street toward the scream of tires, and he decided to fucking run for it. Whoever made the noise had a vehicle and he really wanted to get to wherever the fucking National Guard was putting together a fucking fort or something.

A bright flash of big box store blue, Ford sprinted out of his temporary shelter and headed toward the noise and the people, the axe over his shoulder and the backpack bouncing against his spine.]

[Caleb doesn't retreat when the man with the crossbow storms towards him from across the drive, although his eyebrows hitch up a bit. If this dude is going for intimidation, he's being shown up by the whole animated-undead thing happening around them on all sides. He does reach for his cane where it's laying alongside the driver's seat, wrapping his hand around the solid wooden grip and hefting it up to his side, hidden from sight by the car door.

He's almost tempted to use it, too. The shove to his chest is met by a slight curl of his upper lip, but his weight is planned on his good leg and so he only falls back a half-step. Then his gaze is drawn to the apparent clown car of people spilling out the window, and the only words that come are murmured expletives.

He dives back behind the wheel, his retort about not turning off the engine because he had no way of knowing that it would turn back on all but forgotten, and revs the vehicle back into drive so that he's tearing off across the lawn. One by one, the zombies turn their heads and gape after him before slowly, slowly, changing their trajectories to follow.]

[Shane has the guy in the fucking car, and Graham feels sure enough in his ability to handle it that he turns his attention elsewhere. Four on the roof, right, and they've got Shane's bike, the car (whoever the hell is inside can move right the hell over) and he hears something about another bike, sees it over his shoulder, and that's enough.

There's a brief moment of time, just a second or two, when he sees Clem and something in his expression changes. He stares like he's not sure who, exactly, he's looking at, and the wrong name is on his tongue before the too-close growl of a zombie yanks him back to the present and he slams the baton into its rotting skull. The car, fortunately, is loud enough to draw the attention of the remaining zombies, and once Tess is down, he moves closer to Shane.] You and me, we take the sheet just in case. [He pauses. Right name, Graham.] Clem looks bad. The kid can help her down, we break her fall. He takes the girl-- [He gestures to Joey] you take Clem, I take the rest in the car, yeah?

[He turns back to the roof.] Move! And you, kid, Beau, you're gonna help her.

[Shane doesn't give a damn if the fucking dumbass is intimidated or not. All he wants is for the fucking horde from hell to bite at someone else. Once the car drives off, he turns to Graham, his eyes moving as the man speaks. He nods. The very same plan had been formulating in his mind, and he's glad Graham and he are on the same wavelength. He doesn't even have to say anything. There's a half-second of eye contact and he's moving to help Joey or the kid or whoever's coming next.

But something distracts him. A flash of blue streaks by and Graham turns. It's another fucking kid.] STOP. [He all but yells at the stranger, some young kid with headphones.] Get your ass over here and help us. We ain't growing fucking daisies, let's go.

[Clem's got a real good view from where she's at, now that she's managed to get the blood out of her eyes. Far off, there don't seem to be as many dead folks, and she's counting that as a good thing. She sees the blur of blue, which she takes to be real young, maybe even younger than Jake. That car driver takes to having a bow pointed at him a whole lot better than she would. And she thinks maybe Graham likes re-killing dead things a little too much, which might require talking about. And all that thinking, it's just to not think about that fall and how it's going to hurt like a bitch, even with the blanket. But there's nothing else to do. Rotted arms are reaching out the window just a few feet off, meaning that house is full of dead, and there's nowhere to go but down.

No point wasting time, and she makes it to the edge of the roof without stopping, wishing her body wasn't bruised clean through. She takes Beau's help, and she jumps, and she knows she screams when she lands on that filthy white. But she blacks out almost immediately, and she thinks (a few seconds later, once she's back) that it was a good thing, going black, because it ate up the worst of the pain.]

[Ford barely missed getting mowed down by the crazy car as it zoomed past, and he dived out of the way into the line of bushes crowding the street, and he kept his head and his feet, which was probably a good thing since a horde of Murder on Autopilot were lumbering after the screaming tires.

Before he had a chance to totally despair, Ford caught sight of the screaming man by the edge of the house, and the relief almost knocked him flat. He dragged his headphones out of the gore spattered dark curls, and suddenly everything came into stomach-churning focus. The screaming, the groaning, his heart going off in his ear like fireworks on repeat.

Ford dodged out of sight of the horde by going around the edge of the lawn and jumping a second porch, and headed toward the yelling man. Whatever else might be his hindrances, Ford could really fucking run. He skidded to a stop next to Shane, and he didn't even try to talk. He stared up at the house just in time to see a woman jump off of it. He gaped.]

[It occurs to Graham that this is the most he's seen of live people since he woke up in this godforsaken wasteland, but what the hell. He glances at the newcomer, a kid who looks young, too young, younger than his own son, but as long as he didn't go and get himself eaten, long as he stayed still, he'd make it out of here.

He hates it, not being able to do a damn thing but hold a stupid sheet and watch Beau help Clem off the roof. Her scream cuts through him and his heart squeezes tight, painfully so, but she's off and she's okay and that's what fucking matters. He yells up at Joey and Beau to get the hell down and once they do, it's a matter getting to the right vehicles.]

See you. [He nods at Shane, the farewell brief and to the point. Graham turns to Beau and the newcomer, blood-spattered clothes and an equally bloody baton over his shoulder.] You two, kids, you're with me. We're takin' the car. [He heads in that direction and he moves fast because this ain't the time for slow, and he sticks his fingers in his mouth and whistles, waving down the damn car. He knows the way to the prison; he's driving.]

[Shane nods at Graham after everyone's out of the godforsaken house. It's all non-spoken communication, years of the same. They know dangerous situations, even if none of these fucks do. With the car and zombie parade coming, he helps Clem to the bike. She's out of it, but he tries to hurry, mostly fucking carrying her.

She's set on the front, Shane not trusting her to hold on. He saddles behind her and reaches around for the handlebars. Quickly, he kicks the thing to life. He's covered in gore too, black blood and blacker bile, but there's no time to be picky.] Hold on, Peaches. [Then loudly:] Joey, Tess— [It's sharp and a call for attention. With a terse nod of the head, he indicates for his brother to follow with Tess. When he's sure they get what he's asking, he doesn't wait an extra second. He's out of there, trusting Graham to round up the fucking kiddie pool and get the fuck out.]

[All big blue eyes and stained blue shirt, Ford jerked into motion as soon as someone screamed in his ear. He made sure he didn't drop anything (headphones, backpack, axe) and then he did as he was damn well told.]

Ohmygod - [The words come out of his mouth as one quick, jumbled sound when the flash of blue darts in front of the car and the kid narrowly escapes being flattened, saved only by the under-inflated tires that make the car want to list to one side. Holy shit. Caleb's eyes only dart to the review mirror for a fraction of a second, more of a reflex than any real need to confirm that he almost turned someone into a pancake, but that's long enough for one of the rotting corpses to lunge into his path. He slams on the brakes but it isn't quite fast enough, so the body goes SPLAT and rolls right up onto the hood of the car, sending chunks of gore flying into the air. Some of the pieces even come through the open window and splatter across his face and chest, but he doesn't dare take his hands off the wheel as he hits the gas again, trailing zombies like some twisted Pied Piper.

Then the whistle comes, shrill and piercing even at a distance, and he swings the car back around towards the house to pull up alongside the man with the baton and the expression that says he's in no mood to argue. It's a good thing, because on top of not knowing where the hell they're supposed to be going, Caleb is sure that he could only handle the clutch with his left leg for a few more minutes. He throws the car in park and hauls himself across the center panel into the passenger seat.]

[Clem barely notices getting on that bike, and she barely notices the road starting to churn beneath the wheels. She considers trying to ask after Graham and Beau, but she isn't real sure she can manage it. Staying put is hard enough, and she's real sure the sway of almost tipping is what keeps her mostly-conscious.] No letting me fall on account of me being a Murphy. [That's what she finally manages, and she thinks it's real well done of her. She winces, and things are going black enough that hurting isn't a real big problem just then.] If Graham doesn't make it out, you go back for him. [Like he needs to be told that, but it's worth saying. And then her body's just done with it. The pain and the stress and being out of bed and running from undead things, it wasn't something the doctor prescribed. So, trusting, she turned some on the bike, just enough to wedge her hip back against Shane's belly as her eyes went closed.] Thanks, sugar.

[At Shane's bark for attention, Joey gives him a crooked look that stems from the annoyance that comes from the godawful familiarity of being bossed around by an older brother. As expected, though, he says nothing, just nods.]

Hope you have a few bullets in that thing. [He tells his sister as everyone groups up in preparation to split. Joey trusts his bike to get them wherever they were going without any problems, but knowing that Tess has a trigger if a bit reassuring. A moment later, he's not really sure why, because a handgun with a rapidly emptying clip would do fuck all if they got swarmed. He supposes that he'll just have to drive fast.

The bike starts up fine, and he makes sure that Tess holds on tight behind him before he turns the throttle and gravel flies out from beneath his back tire as the pair race off after Shane.]
