It had been such a rough night for everyone. Their Moms had been awake thru much of it but they had both finally nodded off and slept a white during the early morning. D had tried to give his own as much of his company as he could for the earlier part of the day after she woke. Bonded with her and the younger Grace and didn't back off until he had brought about even the slightest smile on her face. He loved her, and his Dad. He had always been a homebody as a kid. He had grown up playing with them both in equal measure. Learning sports from his Dad and Uncle Steve and spending most of his cuddle time with his Mom.
And once his Dad was around to take over, he left her with a smile. "Don't worry," He told her. "I'll see you in a little bit." It was a delicate time. Her pregnancy was a little riskier than the last had been. She needed his Dad most right now. He loved her for offering to sacrifice her life, but the truth was, it wasn't just hers to offer away now. Leaving them alone, he wandered out into the living room and plopped down onto the couch. He was tired. But mostly, he just needed to unwind a bit. He had to stop himself from thinking about what he wanted to do to Brian and he had to focus on the family, like Uncle Steve had told him to. And really, that had distracted him from what had already happened so far.
Picking up the remote, he flicked the TV on and started scanning for something to watch. He found some old football movie from ages ago and left it. He figured he might doze off during it anyway. He just wanted something on to listen to so his mind wouldn't get the best of him in the mean time, really. The couch was mighty comfortable, the movie was decent. It was the most relaxed that he had been in several days now. And it was almost exactly everything that he needed.
