Dan was glad he had lifted Lilly's spirits a little. He smiled at her when she brought the sandwich stuff over and snuck another kiss in. He had all the bread that they were going to need laid out and ready, and after finding a butter knife, he spread mayo on the bread for people who would like it and drizzled his mother's with dressing after the mayo. Putting the meat and cheese on was pretty mindless work, but the had to work together to know who got what. The last thing they wanted to do was upset anyone who didn't like a particular meat or cheese, this was all about doing something nice for them. But that ended up being pretty simply. Once they were put together, Dan cut them all diagonally and plated them.
"Now we just have to wait on the soup," He told her. "Probably be easiest if we deliver the sandwiches first." He made sure the heat was low enough on the burner so it wouldn't boil too fast and burn to the pot. Grabbed half the plates and carried them out and down the hall, delivering to his parents and Little Grace, and then a fourth to Johnny's room. He made sure Lilly's little arms weren't overloaded and waited for her at the end of the hallway before slipping an arm around her shoulders when she was done. Walking casually back to the kitchen with her.
"Well so far so good." Tess had practically been salivating at the prospect of food. He pulled out one of the chairs at the table once they were in the kitchen again and sat while they waited on the soup to get hot enough to serve. "Thanks for helping me out, pumpkin." He said sweetly, grinning over at her.
