Whizz Hard Book Launch
Who: Anyone related to Scottish Quid/Affairs/Press/Books in general (so pretty much all of you if you want) and all current and past members of both teams (NPCs welcome!)
What: The release of the Golden Neep companion book
When: March 16th 8pm
Where: Portree and Montrose clubhouses
Warnings: Language maybe? Drinking

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the BIL's most exciting rivalry: The Golden Neep! In honour of it, Whizz Hard books is proud to present a companion book to their world famous 'Quidditch Through the Ages'.

WELCOME TO THE RELEASE OF:

Neep themed decorations are throughout the cocktail party. Including intricately carved neeps, and hors d’ouevres served in small carved out neep bowls.

At one table on each of the Montrose and Portree sides of the party is a long table set up with the book of the hour! There are even special edition versions in Montrose or Portree colours available tonight. Everyone who has prepurchased their book will get it in a bag of their choice. Options: Montrose, Portree, Golden Neep (for those who like to remain neutral) designs.

If you’d like...try to get it signed by your favourite quidditcher, you’re likely to find them around here somewhere!

The Book of the Hour

Each side has a party!

Management offices on both sides are locked and heavily warded to prevent spies (we got your back, Fergus) from sneaking around. But the main areas of the trophies, historical rooms, and social rooms and lounge are all open to the guests.

Both sides have shined their trophies and old players have even lent their individual ones to buff up the display. On each side there are articles framed on the walls at various places, showcasing historic or significant victories or moment and each has even set up a historical showroom for it to show the uniforms over the years too. It’s a chance for both teams to show off their long history as BIL clubs and their numerous successes.

Just for tonight a dedicated floo connection has been set up between the two parties connecting the main rooms to allow people to move freely between each side. The floo will not allow you to go elsewhere and there isn’t even a requirement to name your destination, though if you’d like to leave please use the regular floo available around the corner.

Portree Side

Golden Neep is on display proudly in the center of the Portree side of the party. Wards prevent anyone from touching and making away with it but it’s there for all to see who currently holds the coveted vegetable.

Along the main social area are many of the trophy cases and shelves, organized by category. Team, chasers, keepers, beaters, seekers, each have their own section of awards. Naturally some positions have a bit more and those are displayed more prominently (the quaffle related awards from the 60s take up a significant amount of room.) and there’s even a special section of keeper awards donated from the personal collection of Coach Bart Roberts.

Off to the side is a room dedicated to the history of the club that’s been around since 1292 (yes Montrose they’re older than you!), showing the evolution of their uniform, logos, and some important team changes (including change of ownership in the 1960s).

Maggie spends most of her time on the Portree side because she's pretty sure she enraged at least half of Montrose she works there and whatever. She's tired, she's distracted, and she spends more time than usual escaping outside for a smoke. But, like, it's cool, because when she isn't doing that, she's hanging off of her friends and theoretically happy to chat with anyone!

Will this dork try to drag Maggie to the Montrose side to give her a forced totally optional tour of a bunch of the awards and history/numbers behind them? Definitely.

He will also point out all the stuff he helped with setting up (that Dani probably had to fix and tweak after him) and tell her about the tiny Montrose intern who he finds hilarious. Also come try the Montrose style drinkn! Then need to get one of each to compare.

While the drink is what wins her over, Maggie can't help but deny that she's a giant nerd who's super into the history and stats.

(That intern sounds hella weird, though.)

At some point Hamish finds Maggie outside and bums a smoke. Hamish doesn't smoke (anymore) but that's not stopping him today. Then he casually mentions that he failed to follow her advice.

Maggie hugs Peggy in that way where then she's just hanging off her bestie's shoulders, keen to shower her in compliments and affection.

And, of course, ask the pressing question of the evening: "Is this your first outing as a couple?" She pauses to think about it before tacking on, "Should we call you that? Is there a better term? Couters? Betrothed-to-be?"

A Rival Coach Appears!
[info]avoidretrograde
2018-03-16 06:35 pm UTC (link)
Merc has very few opportunities in his life to see the inside of the big rival's clubhouse, and definitely comes over to have a drink and look over the history section and some of the awards (mostly the years he was playing to remember ppl he competed against). And privately smile to himself that he def thinks Montrose beats them at this.

It's interesting to see the different set up and atmosphere. He's not much for purple but it's not bad here. Black and white are of course better though.

Rival Coaches: Merc/Elsie Edition

Merc takes his Montrose themed drink around as he tours the Portree club rooms. Eventually he stops and surveys the Golden Neep displayed in the middle of the room. People can whisper about the rival coach measuring it for where he wants to put it in his club.

Because that's exactly what he's doing.

Ellie had lost Allie for a few moments when she was pulled into a conversation with some actual fans of the 1992 Neep. Being the only Neep series she fully played in, she had stories. Even on her best behavior, that wasn't perfect. It mostly meant staying to public areas, not drinking, and planning to make enough rounds early so she could leave.

The real truth was that Ellie didn't feel comfortable, she didn't trust the situation, not after the last big quidditch even she wen to.

She had excused herself to go hunt down Allie when she frozen. Ellie wasn't ready for was seeing Merc in the Pride Trophy room. Still there he was. And she had a decision to make -- approach or pretend she didn't see him. She might have retreated quickly at the Montrose match, probably shouldn't have been there to start but she was too often at an uncomfortable intersection.

Beyond that they were getting into Neep and post-season and she would need to figure out at least some very small working relationship with Merc because there was going to be joint press, hand shakes, photo calls. So, she took a deep breath and walked up to him, but still kept a safe distance and an easy line of retreat should she need it. "You know, I would think that whole origins of the Golden Neep might offend your sensibilities as a seeker."

Merc glanced over at his cousin then turned back to look at the Neep. "On one hand: snitch interference. On the other: a match won on the snitch and a 400 year old rivalry series named for essentially a snitch stand in."

Bart and Kirsten separate to mingle and do their thing. He's enjoying the drinks and the chatter and if anyone wants to ask him about that big collection of Keeper trophies, he's here to answer questions. (Though he will also talk about Kirsten's collection of Chaser trophies which are nearby. Catriona McCormack isn't the only name brand Chaser in this team's history by a long shot.

Come to think of it, Merc hasn't really seen or interacted with Bart since he signed back onto Portree so will make a beeline to say hello (to Kirsten too if she's around) and maybe lightly joke about how Portree is going to have to find a new centrepiece for the next years.

Kirsten is around somewhere but they circulate separately.

Bart is glad to see Merc in person, check out how he's doing, compliment him on pulling out that crazy match against Wigtown (what is going on with the refs?). He may not be fully confident of his team when talking to Graham behind closed doors, but in public Bart believes that that turnip isn't going anywhere, so don't get cocky, kid.

Hamish makes sure to find his Da and say hello. He may or may not smell like cigarette smoke when he greets him. But he's definitely not drinking because he has brooms to get back to testing as soon as he leaves and changes into normal clothes. Which is neither here nor there but the absence of drink in hand is notable.

"Hey, Da. I don't think think I was expecting such a turnout," Hamish greets, glancing around.

Alec tries to do 50/50 each side but may spend a tad more time on the Portree half bc he's more comfortable there. All this hosting is tiring but when everyone's arrived and the party is 2/3rds through, he gets his second wave because looking around he realizes...he did it.

The book is out and things are okay and his first big project...may be a success so far? Still to be determined but suddenly he actually feels great and confident and like he actually hit a big milestone.

He's finished a book! Officially.

Mel really didn't want to come to the Portree side of things, but since he wasn't sure Ainsley had talked to her medic yet, he didn't have much choice. Besides, what could happen that would possibly be more upsetting than having his name dragged through the mud by Rita Skeeter and then getting a howler at the office from Aunt Iphigenia for the world to hear?

He brought her a drink because that was the least he reckoned he could do. If she threw it in his face, he'd go back to Montrose and change at the Park.

It was an evening for the unexpected. Accepting the drink but with no clue why it's being offered by Mel Yaxley, and biting her tongue before she asks if he went and got her friend cursed again, Maggie doesn't waste time playing coy. "Something to apologize for?" She asks, tapping against the glass before taking a drink.

Given that she was in the middle of talking with one of Portree's retired Keepers- a player she'd admired for years- the annoyingly persistent paper airplane had quite possibly the worst timing. When Ainsley finally caved and read the note, she made her polite excuses, and, with mounting trepidation, made her way to Maggie's office.

By the time she got there, dread had settled, ice cold, in her stomach. She didn't bother to knock, but came in and immediately shut the door behind her. "Something's wrong." Maybe that should have been a question, but it wasn't. She just couldn't work out which of her many sins had been drudged up now. She tried for a joking smile, but failed miserably. "What have I done or not done now?"
