When Scrimmy shows up to the locker room today, it's a bit later than her usual level of early. Her pink hair is pulled back out of her face, her headphones are on with Joy's walkman playing a selection of muggle hits, and rather than her Portree team jacket she's wearing a bright hoodie in clan tartan. It's oversized and soft, and just the comfort she needs today.

Last time she walked into a match scared it was for her job, and that gave her a nervous energy. But today it's a different sort of fear that keeps coming in periodic waves, this one is the paralyzing type that forces her to keep focusing on taking deep breaths just so she remembers to breath. Old coach had some long preachy speech about pink, but to her it sounded like a lot of words to say 'politics'. But...Keke had said it’d mean something to her. And loyalty was important, you had to stick your neck out for your team when push came to shove.

She finds her corner of the locker room and puts on her goggles right away to hide her expression and help try and ignore the locker room as a whole. The hair dying was easy, she could pretend it was like it was back when she'd tried out a bright red, and she could tease Amir about his new pink look (it looked good but silly, a good silly). This though, this made it feel real, terrifying, and oh so publicly political. The last Scrimgeour to be public and political had ~~'resigned'~~ been tortured and murdered for it (thank you so much postwar Prophet expose), and it wasn't so easy to brush that aside.

To make things worse, there's no Meaghan today. She knew it'd happen but being in the locker room without her energy and dancing before a match is weird and it feels like a hole. From her first day on the team until now, nearly every match she's ever played for Portree, Meaghan was there. The whole roster may have changed, even the coaches, but Meaghan was the fixture. Now she was out in the sea of politics which everyone seemed thrilled about, and the most familiar face wasn't there.

It was stupid to be this shaken, they weren't in a war, but even Scrimmy knows this is just a visceral reaction to feeling dragged into politics that she's been avoiding. She keeps on her goggles and headphones until they start lining up to fly out. Only then does she put the walkman away and give Amir another little thumbs up as good luck. Taking a deep breath she tries to remember what Da had said about Uncle Rufus.

Amir doesn't put his goggles on right away because he's not wise to the art of hiding his expression. They're on his forehead when he turns to Scrimmy in line, his eyes widened in what almost resembles panic. But he has this. Really, he does.

She gives him a thumbs up and all he can do is nod, one hand gripping his bat and the other his broom and he's fine, really.

"Your hair looks good," he says. It's all he has, but he knows what it took to get to this point and he appreciates it. Whether or not that's conveyed in his wide-eyed panic, he doesn't know. But then they're taking the pitch anyway.

Scrimmy doesn't feel like she deserves warpaint right now, but more to the point she doesn't want to take her goggles off so Cap can see her expression. So for the first time she shakes her head 'No' at warpaint.

But later when it's almost game time and people are distracted, Scrimmy finds her way to the (black) warpaint station and sneaks some under her goggles when nobody is paying enough attention. It's only a little under her eyes but it does end up making her feel better and more game ready.

	From behind her goggles it's hard to see her expression but Scrimmy just nods a little at Coach. Right now chimeras make her think of the birthday trip plan with Meaghan and only reminds her that she's not here right now. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
