An hour or so into the match, Jason makes a point to come over and greet Bart - or Coach Roberts as he will call him unless directed otherwise - and his wife. Bart might not be Jason's coach, but Jason is aware of his long history with Pride, if nothing else than for seeing another black man in a position of power. It might not mean much to other witches and wizards, but it meant a lot to him.

After introductions and pleasantries are sorted, Jason makes the real ask. "Can I interest you in a t-shirt?" He holds up one that reads 'I Stand With Monte.' And make no mistake, Jason knows exactly what play he is making.

"I'll take one if you're offering," Bart says, and holds out a hand for it. It is, after all, why he's here.

He displays his t-shirt. Around them are a few other people with the same t-shirt. Jason came to make a statement. He wasn't going to do that by halves. "My goal here is to make sure everyone is appropriately attired."

Jason hands the t-shirt to Bart. Two, even, if his wife wants one. He might have a few other variations with different sayings in his bag, but he's not offering those right now. (Although if pressed he would share.)

Bart, being a quidditcher at heart, strips down to skin and dons the shirt right there before putting on his coat. Kirsten takes one, too, and being more modest, just switches hers on over the jumper she was wearing.

"Sit down for a bit, if you've got time. I know Hamish is around here somewhere and it's no fun to have your parents hanging around with your friends, so we're letting him have his space."

Jason grins when he sees them both in those shirts. "Of course, I am here as part spectator, and part ambassador." Jason takes a seat. "I can't say I ever personally run into that issue with my parents, but I can appreciate the sentiment." It said light, certainly not meant as a slight, joke-like almost.

"How are you finding things so far?"

"Today? Very satisfactory. Lynch is going to make them pay for what they did to Cameron, and the discipline they didn't give Flint, and a good thing, too. I don't know what the coaches and management are thinking. It's a failure of leadership to let a bully ply his trade in your ranks. It's not even like Flint's that good of a player." Bart's lips twisted in annoyance. Everyone knew that certain kinds of nepotism and excellence in play bought you more tolerance, but why Flint was getting it wasn't clear to Bart at all.

Jason glanced out at the pitch. "Lynch is something else." Sure, Jason could rally the troops well enough, but he appreciated that he had someone like Lynch standing at his side. Dawn too for that matter. They brought different things to the table.

As for the Flint situation? Jason wanted to take that wide, to shout it that just because the war was over, didn't mean there wasn't still battles to be won. "Unfortunately, sometimes who your family is matters more than anything else."

"I didn't think his family was that influential. Maybe I underestimated that." Bart made a face. "It's not the same thing, obviously, but my mother came from Ghana to live in England and I know how difficult it is in the land of 'not made here'. The McBrides adopted me wholeheartedly when I married Kirsten and it's made all the difference.

"Is it going to be like this all bloc?" Bart gestured at the pink-clad section of the stands, and tilted his head toward the pitch to indicate the players in the same colour.

Jason got that. On many different levels. No sense of place and all that. Far less fun that it might sound.

"I don't know, but I think it might be. To be fair some of that depends on what the Falmouth response is, but I would like to see it go wide." He also wouldn't mind making Hamish MacFarlan eat crow. But he didn't dare say that out loud.

Bart was still frowning. "If Falmouth had been going to do anything other than try to paper over it, they'd have spoken up already. Or done something to show they didn't hold Monte responsible. They play a rough game. Rough and even head games are one thing. Going in on that, on your own teammate, is entirely different.

"I can't guarantee anything from Portree and I know there'll be some resistance inside the team, but I'm going to talk about this with management and the players and encourage everyone who feels right about it to join."

Jason nodded. That seemed to be about the right response. Let people join in if they felt they should. He would like to see more. Already looking out and seeing Kenmare come out in pink, he wanted that for Montrose. For himself.

"As long as it is for the right reasons." Jason could have a long memory. The Camerons leaving Pride was one of the first big catalysts. He didn't like that Monte was the next, but he certainly would use every opportunity he could.

"I'm not going to be an Auror sniffing in their motives but I think you've already got some Portree supporters who'll be happy to encourage their teammates." Bart gestured to where he could see Keke in the stands.

The other thing was a sore subject even for Bart for a lot of reasons. "I wasn't here and I can't speak about what happened to Isla but I'll be honest: I think it was only about blood in the sense that Lorna MacFarlane had an inside track to that spot and nobody else did. Which is a different problem, except it's not, right?

"I'll be honest: I do feel some responsibility for how it happened, if only in that I should have left Portree in better shape so that the kind of fuckup that led to Isla and Monte leaving wouldn't happen. Even if Lorna had been brought on, the management could have and should have respected Isla more. One of my goals for this half-season, apart from helping Ellie hold things together, is to make sure the organisation knows what it's doing and how to treat players with more sensitivity and respect."

He followed the gesture looking toward Okeke. He couldn't say he really knew the young beater well. But she could certainly be rather enthusiastic.

"I am not going to mind other team's business I have more than enough on my plate." Still, Jason could appreciate Bart's honesty. It was refreshing. "But I have known Alasdair since we were at school, so I don't doubt there are people within Portree supporting the movement and able to rally the crew."

"More than that I think the real point is that during the war, or even earlier not everyone was in a position where they could make a stand, but I think the stakes are a little less high now."

"Nobody's afraid they're going to be dragged off now. That was the point of things like what they did to Dawn Withey: to keep everyone else in line because anoyone could be next."

It was a relief to know that the co-Captain was going to come out in support when Bart broached it to the team. Knowing that Meaghan was going to present a problem had worried him; if she spoke first, she might be able to turn the team against the idea, which would be a disaster. But with Alasdair and Keke both, getting buy-in ought from most of the rest of the team should be simpler.

"How are you finding dealing with management and ownership? Do you think the owners are behind you in general, or are they just following where you lead?"

"I don't really have much face time with ownership." Jason really didn't think he needed to sit down with ownership. He needed to rally the base, the players, the staff -- the people he saw every day. And if that forced ownership's hand? Great. "And I have zero problems with the McGonagalls. That whole family has been very supportive of my activism and before that did their absolute best during the war to keep me safe."

"That's McGonagall's job--dealing with the Macmillans, not the rest of it, obviously."

Bart looked round at the crowd and the concentrations of pink on the Jenmare side of the stadium. "I'm going to take it to Graham Urquhart. I know there was a memo sent out earlier this season to say players could wear pink but I'm going to ask him to encourage it now. We have players who aren't interested in so-called 'politics' but they're the minority. There are some who are just waiting for a sign. We're at a good moment to provide it.

"That's the next step, I think. Taking it a level up, to get buy-in. That puts you in a stronger position for dealing with the BIL. Even if you're not wrangling with them yet, you will be." Bart had his own suspicions about the Banchory situation and how it intersected with Uplift and the support for the Pink movement. To the extent that Banchory was going to be a team founded on Muggleborns, their supporters needed to get some of the owners lined up sooner rather than later. And at least enough votes to thwart whatever bullshit was going on with the season-quashing vote.

Jason nodded. He wasn't sure he was there yet. Soon maybe. He would have to see how the Wasps match played out. He also made a note to reach out to Dawn ahead of that match.

"It will be a busy run up to post season for sure."

"I'm thinking about post-season now. Or at least about being ready for the Neep," Bart said. "We have a bloc and a half--three weeks--and we're there."

And two more beyond that to end the regular season completely.

Jason was happy to go with the change of topic. "You think Pride has a chance for the title? Or to hold onto the Golden Neep?" Now that was a little cheeky, knowing well that Montrose sat on top of the league and were hungry to stay there.

"I think you're going to have a fight on your hands for both. McGonagall wants that Neep but it's not sitting in his clubhouse yet." Bart grinned hugely, because while he knew it was going to be a rough defence, he was ready for it. "And the Cup, too.

"But I have to admit I was thinking as much of using the Neep as a platform for advancing Uplift, if the ownership is agreeable on both sides. Traditionally we use Neep matches to advance charitable causes and the Uplift Foundation could be one of those beneficiaries. It will also put Uplift leaders in a box with the senior Scottish Office members, because they won't miss the Neep matches. With their ear, you'll be in a position to shape the new Ministry and ensure that Muggleborn issues are on their agenda starting now. It's not a guarantee, obviously, but it's a good start."

Kirsten had moved down the bench a little to chat with someone else and Bart flashed a smile at her.

Jason hadn't really thought about using the Neep as a platform, but it certainly was an interesting idea.

"That's a valuable insight. I am somewhat new to the political side of this game, but I'm a quick study. I suppose that is a Ravenclaw trait." More and more tasks and things to consider. It helped to distract from that instinctual anger for a little while.

"Honestly, sir? My goal right now is to make sure something gets down about Flint. And then make a strong showing in Sweden. It's all important, of course, but sometimes I have to remind myself to be a little selfish. But certainly long term? That might be the next play here."

"I expect to hear about victory in Sweden. Got to have some consolation when we keep our turnip." But Bart's good humour had waned at the mention of Flint. "Talk to Dunbar Oglethorpe, and talk to the BIL. We need structural changes. We can't have bullying inside the teams. Most coaches will handle it if it comes up. Not all, apparently, so now we need rules in place to deal with what should have been common sense.

"I can talk to some of the other coaches, like McGonagall, and see if we can come up with some suggestions for rules to handle bullying situations. Suggested punishments for different kinds and levels of infraction. Oglethorpe will want a look in too." Now he was woolgathering a bit and realised it, so he stopped there to let Jason speak.

Jason laughed. He didn't expect to win the Annual Broom Race. It was brutal course, allowing only the best in world to play, and the best of the best to even finish.

"Thank you, sir, you've given me quite a lot to think about. I hope we are able to continue this conversation, but I do want to keep making my rounds." There were plenty of people to get face time with, both those who had been with him from the beginning and those just coming into the cause.
