"Alasdair!" Monte takes the hand and shakes it enthusiastically. He might be running on fumes at this point- definitely going to have to catch some kind of nap soon- but seeing his former teammate is a genuine thrill. "It's crazy, right? Kenmore is crushing it."

He's very careful not to say anything directly negative about his current team, even if he's not playing. He might be secretly reveling in their decimation, but it still feels like incredibly bad form- especially if there might be any kind of press around. "It's great to see you! How've you been? I heard about Joy. Tough break."

"They're pacing themselves," Alasdair nodded, careful not to make too many criticisms of the younger man's team's style of play. "Never been a Chaser set to overdo it when they don't have to," he added, a polite comment on the team's level of experience and ability with tactics, something the amateur statistician in him was always going to notice.

Knowing they were in public, he kept his tone bright and breezy, deferring references to the stressor that was Joy's departure to the end of his discussion. "Keeping busy, as per. Vice Captaincy stuff with the Pride, wedding plans -" he couldn't help but chuckle, there, "- and all that sort of thing. And yeah, working on our attacking strategy for the next bloc. Hopefully whoever it is puts up a bit more of a fight than the Harpies did against us, mind," he quipped, his eyes flicking up to where the Falcons were not exactly covering themselves in glory, either.

He didn't make any additional comments about either team, taking a cue from Alasdair's masterfully neutral commentary. Instead, Monte latched onto another topic entirely. "The wedding! Yes! I'd forgotten about that. How's that going? How's Ada? Do you lot have a date yet? Or a venue? There's a lot that goes into these sorts of things, isn't there? My sister's done it a couple of times, but she's always eloped, so I suppose that's an option."

He was talking a mile a minute, and paused briefly to offer the Chaser a bashful smile. "Sorry, I'm a bit knackered, so I don't know half of what I'm saying."

Alasdair chuckled slightly at Monte's fast comments that seemed to come a mile a minute. "She's well. Letting her mostly do her thing when it comes to the details," he laughed a bit. "We'd get slaughtered by our families if we eloped, so that's no option for us. But Skye in June still seems a world away for her side of the family. We've at least got time to travel a bit before preseason starts back, though, so that's something."

He laughed again at the confession. "You'd think you'd be a bit more used to the nigh-on day-long matches you've been getting."

A tiny stab of envy went through him at the mention of traveling, but Monte didn't let on to his former Vice-Captain. Instead, he smiled and nodded. "That'll be great for you two. Are you planning to spend a lot of time in France? Better not let those Quafflepunchers steal you back. I think Coach MacFusty would drag you back by the bristles if you did."

He stifled a bit of a yawn, couldn't help himself really. "I think they've compounded on each other, and I'm just doomed to a lifetime of sleep deficits. What about you? What's your longest match record?"

Alasdair snorted a little before replying. "Quiberon is a great place to play, and we loved it out there. But there's a reason we came back. I'm going nowhere," he finished, blue eyes flickering over the play before him. Even in duller matches, he couldn't resist having a good look at how the stats may form later on.

He gave a wicked grin before speaking. Not only had Monte missed out on the Portree Hell Week that had been designed to promote their endurance, but he certainly had the younger man beat in terms of playing records. "We had a French League match against Grenoble that went for a smidge over five days once," he laughed, reflecting back on it all. "Subs allowed, of course, under strict rules, but most of us were still out there for twelve hour stretches at a time given how few reserves you actually have on a team."

Monte blew out a low, impressed whistle and shook his head. "Someone really needs to do something about this whole reserves business. What's the point of having them around for every game if you can't even play them for whatever reason? Within reason, of course."

Alasdair laughed at the younger man's response, running a tired hand through the hair that was loosening from its usually groomed manner. This match might not be a five-dayer, but it was hard to be at your best the whole time.

"If you could have reserves change of a certain pace, a slow snitch could make a match go on for months and months," he laughed. "Though I suppose the snitchwrights would have to do something about that."

"That would be insane! You'd never be able to play any other game. Just one season long game. What a nightmare. Maybe we should also start instituting time limits, like football. Best score after X amount of time wins, regardless of a snitch catch. Doesn't that seem more humane?"

Now that he had ranted a bit, Monte looked sheepish. "Er, sorry. Long hours. Makes me say just about whatever."

Alasdair snorted. "Merlin, there's enough of a debate about using Hogwarts scoring rules in the BIL, can you imagine the hassle there'd be over a rule change like that?"

"Might be worth it in the long run, though. Change has to start somewhere, right?" Monte smiled wryly and made a sweeping gesture meant to encompass the pitch and the stadium.
