Hurricane Party!
Who: Ginny and the other residents of the resort
What: Hurricane Party!
When: Day 10, around 7 PM.
Where: The White Sands Resort Bar and Club
Rating: PG? I don't know what crazy shenanigans are going to occur.
Status: In progress.

Ginny hated being stuck indoors.

She almost literally been trying to climb the walls in her frustration when she'd decided to throw a hurricane party. She hadn't met many of the residents, and figured if there was anyone else as irritated at being stuck inside then they'd appreciate the change of scenery. It'd also give people a chance to mingle and meet. She wondered if there were others from her world here besides Tonks.

The planet had been most accomodating to her ideas. The club was currently themed for a luau, and small lanterns shed a soft glow over numerous smaller groupings of tables as well as over the dance floor and bar. She hadn't been sure what the other residents might eat, so she'd asked for a large selection of snacks. The bar was well-stocked as well. She didn't recognize all of the things stocked, but she did notice a bottle of Firewhiskey and what appeared to be butterbeer.

Now all this party needed was people. Maybe she'd get to see Max again.

She quirked up one side of her mouth in a small smile, amused at his disbelief. "Yes, caves." She had to laugh at the look on his face. He seemed so blown away by it. But she didn't see how her being from the past was that far from his being from another planet altogether. She was suitably impressed with the number he gave her for the time between hers and his. She knew it was a lot, although she couldn't quite fathom it because she'd never seen such a number.

Ayla shrugged slightly when he asked her if she liked it in Mirage. "It is very different from where I come from. There are many things I am unfamiliar with. But I like seeing so many people who look like the Others. Like me. I lived with the Clan for many many years growing up, and I did not look like them. I was big and ugly." She paused for a moment. "I think I like it, yes. My horses are here, but I do miss Baby, and Durc and Jondalar." The people in her life that she loved the most. The others that she loved were dead.

She shook her head. "No, I was too big and ugly to have a mate when I lived with the Clan. And I thought that maybe Jondalar would be my mate, but I was brought here, so I suppose I will never know." She liked the way Max seemed to stammer and stare at her. It made her happy, but she wasn't sure why. Usually when people of the Clan looked at her, it was because she was so different and they couldn't understand why someone so ugly was being abused by the son of the leader.

A wide smile spread over her lips at his confession and she put a hand to his arm. "You think I am beautiful? Are you teasing me?" She tilted her head, giving him a calculating look. "Kiss is.. that is the mouth on mouth, right?" Jondalar was just teaching her the different aspects of a sexual relationship before she was taken. Clan did not kiss or show signs of affection. They merely procreated.

She listened to him and nodded, "Liz was your mate?" She smiled again when he laughed and explained about the spicy liquid he put in his sweet smelling drink. She nodded her understanding. She probably would be one of those grossed out by the idea, but her palat was relatively tame because of the life she'd lived. Salt was a rare commodity unless one lived by the sea, and so different plants and roots were used to give flavor to things. But even then, meals were pretty plain. "I see."

Reaching out for the tobasco bottle, she peered at the ingredients. Items she had never heard of were in it, so she put it back down. "What is in it?" She would have to start doing some research in the kitchen, find out about all the different foods she didn't have access to back in her own land.

When Ayla laughed at him, Max laughed back. She was delightful. Of course he seemed silly to her…caves were commonplace homes to her, anything else made no sense. He looked into her big blue eyes and was fascinated. He wanted to know everything about her.

“WHAT?!”, Max exclaimed loudly and hoped the music had drowned him out, “Big and ugly? Ayla, who told you that you were big and ugly?”, he asked, sitting his drink down on the bar and taking hold of her upper arms, “Ayla, you are one of the most beautiful girls I ‘ve ever met”. Max couldn’t believe that anyone would think this girl was ugly or that she would believe it. “Your hair is like the sunshine and your eyes are blue like the sky and your face is so pretty…”, Max knew he sounded lame, but he didn’t care. He was no poet, but she understood what he was saying. “Wait…clan and others…you were one of the ‘others’? This ‘clan’ you grew up with…did they look like…hmmm…”, Max grabbed an orange wedge from the bar and inserted it under his upper lip to make it protrude and frowned deeply with his eyebrows…then his hunched his shoulders almost like a gorilla… “Did the Clan look something like this?”, he asked her, hoping she would see what he was doing. The fact that others could see what he was doing completely slipped his mind, he was so taken with Ayla.

Twice she had mentioned Jondalar. “Ayla, I think that Jondalar would have been proud to be your mate. You are very beautiful. We…Others are supposed to look different than the Clan”, he tilted his head and teasingly asked, “Do you think the people here are ugly? Do you think that I am ugly?”.

“I would never tease you, Ayla. I think you are one of the loveliest girls I’ve ever seen”, Max answered her sincerely. When she asked about the kiss, he blushed, “Yes, that’s the one. That’s what a kiss is”. Then she asked about Liz…sigh…touchy subject and one not easily explained. “Mate? Ummm…no…not my mate exactly. We were fond of each other. We kissed”, he blushed again, “We spent time together, we talked, hugged…”, okay, she got the idea, “…that sort of thing”.

Max grinned widely when Ayla lifted the Tabasco sauce bottle. “That’s called Tabasco sauce, Ayla, and it’s used to season foods…not usually sweets. It’s called a hot sauce and it has tabasco peppers, vinegar and salt in it…then, I read they age it for three years in white oak barrels”. He wiggled his eyebrows, “Would you like to try a tiny taste on your finger?”.

She was a little startled by his outburst, but he was so sincere in his explanation that she could only smile at him and listen. His grip on her arms was firm, but did not hurt her. She was strong and had been used to abuse. This was nothing. If anything, it was only to emphasize his exuberant reply. She didn't reply to his questions, mostly because he cycled through them so quickly that it seemed as if he didn't really expect a reply.

No one had actually told her that. Although she had seen it said about her to Iza and other women of the Clan. It had also bewildered Jondalar to learn that she thought herself big and ugly. But compared to the Clan, she was. She looked surprised to find that he knew what the Clan looked like and his demonstration of them was fitting. She laughed softly and nodded. "Yes, that's what they looked like. With hair.. all over. And their legs were bowed. They were short and stocky, heavily muscled, too."

She laughed again, pleased that he was making an effort to speak to her and to find out who she was. She enjoyed talking to people, especially people who looked like her. She ducked her head a little when he said that Jondalar would have been proud to be her mate. She hoped that were true. But her Baby had killed his brother Thonolan and she had had a child of mixed spirits, an abomination in his opinion.

She tilted her head slightly when he asked if she thought he was ugly. "No, I do not think the people here are ugly. I have met some very beautiful people." She thought back to John, Rusty and Yvaine. Just three of the handful of people she'd met, but they were quite lovely to look at. "No, you are beautiful, too, Max." She grinned. The truth was easy for her to speak, and she could not lie.

She didn't mean to embarass him, but he seemed to blush when they spoke of the mouth-on-mouth, the kiss. She nodded to his explanation of Liz. It was kind of the way it had been with she and Jondalar. They had talked, hugged and kissed, but they were not mates. She didn't see anything wrong with it.

When the attention moved from the subject of beauty and lovers to tobasco sauce, she was curious. She listened to him explain the ingredients, but she didn't know exactly what it meant. But, she nodded willingly when he asked if she wanted to try a taste of it on her finger. She held her finger out for a dollop to be placed there and then put it in her mouth to taste.

It was bitter and spicy, and it made her mouth feel as if she had started a fire in it. Her eyes widened in surprise and she opened her mouth, fanning it. The sensation didn't last long, there wasn't enough of it on her finger to make it painful or long lasting. But she was sure she didn't want to try it again. She had seen how much he put in his drink, and she didn't know how he could manage to drink it without his tongue melting away. "I don't like it." She stated distinctly. She picked up her water and took a long drink of the cool liquid.

Max laughed too when Ayla laughed at his imitation of the Neanderthal…he had meant for her to laugh. How could this incredibly hot girl think she was ugly?, Max wondered, shaking his head, Especially compared to a bunch of hairy, heavy-browed, ape-like Neanderthal!. When Ayla told Max that </b>he</b> was beautiful, he laughed again, “Well, I don’t know if I’m beautiful or not”, he grinned, “…but thanks”.

Ayla presented her finger for a dollop of the much treasured and loved Tabasco sauce and Max, knowing how most humans reacted to it, gave her the tiniest drop that he could manage. He watched expectantly as her finger went to her lips and then grinned when her eyes blared wide like she had sat down on a cactus. The poor girl started fanning her mouth and almost drank her whole glass of water…all over just about a pea-sized amount of Tabasco sauce. “It’s an acquired taste”, Max explained, with a grin as he added more to his root beer.

Never in his whole life had Max felt so free to be a teenaged boy and not an alien hiding from the FBI, Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Military, etc. In Roswell, all of his time was spent worrying about everything he did and everything Michael and Isabel did and trying to find out who they were without arousing suspicion, that he didn’t have any time for socializing. His first date…his first girl was Liz…and that had caused a real uproar within his small group. The others, Michael and Isabel, were furious that he had used his powers so openly when he saved her…but he had felt something for her from afar. Then, when she asked about the silver handprint, before it faded, he had confided in her about who he really was. He had saved her life and then put his life in her hands. Max sighed deeply…here, on this planet, he could openly be an alien boy…he could use his powers…there were so many girls…and they seemed to like him. He smiled at Ayla. She was so beautiful and he wanted to kiss her so badly, but would that be fair to…

GINNY!, looking over Ayla’s shoulder, Max saw Ginny speaking to another girl with long brown hair. If she saw him here with such a sexy, blonde girl…she would never understand!

“Ayla”, Max began softly, “I have really enjoyed talking to you and I want to see you again, okay?”, he looked into her impossibly blue eyes, “Right now, I have to go over there because I have to see a girl that is maybe my new girlfriend or something like that, because we did a lot of kissing a few days ago”, he shook his head, “ummm…you don’t want to hear that…anyway, if she sees me with such a pretty girl, she might get jealous and who knows what may happen!”, he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, watching to make sure that Ginny wasn’t looking, “I’m in room A211 if you ever want company for anything!”.

Max hurriedly rushed away from Ayla and stood near the area where Ginny was talking to the brown-haired girl: he was feeling like the little boy who had been caught with both hands in the cookie jar.
