Hurricane Party!
Who: Ginny and the other residents of the resort
What: Hurricane Party!
When: Day 10, around 7 PM.
Where: The White Sands Resort Bar and Club
Rating: PG? I don't know what crazy shenanigans are going to occur.
Status: In progress.

Ginny hated being stuck indoors.

She almost literally been trying to climb the walls in her frustration when she'd decided to throw a hurricane party. She hadn't met many of the residents, and figured if there was anyone else as irritated at being stuck inside then they'd appreciate the change of scenery. It'd also give people a chance to mingle and meet. She wondered if there were others from her world here besides Tonks.

The planet had been most accomodating to her ideas. The club was currently themed for a luau, and small lanterns shed a soft glow over numerous smaller groupings of tables as well as over the dance floor and bar. She hadn't been sure what the other residents might eat, so she'd asked for a large selection of snacks. The bar was well-stocked as well. She didn't recognize all of the things stocked, but she did notice a bottle of Firewhiskey and what appeared to be butterbeer.

Now all this party needed was people. Maybe she'd get to see Max again.

Elminster nodded at the young lady who sat down next to him. He noticed she was dressed far more than most of the people around him. Especially odd were the long elegant gloves she wore along all of her arms. It reminded him somewhat of some elven nobility he had met, long long ago.

"Greetings young one" he said as he took a sip of his mead. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure. I am Elminster, the Sage of Shadowdale. Not that that's likely to mean anything to anyone here" he added, with a sigh, extending his hand for her to shake. "And you are?" He ask as, with a little mental exertion, he set the lantern he had enchanted to fly back down onto the bar next to them.

Rogue’s eyes fell to his offered hand, a small thread on uneasiness going through her stomach before Rogue forcefully reminded herself that she was wearing gloves. The teenager took his hand with her own velvet covered hand and returned the greeting. “I don’t think we have. My name’s Rogue”, she offered politely but the Sage of Shadowdale title he had let loose had the teen curious. “Shadowdale? Where’s that to?”

"Shadowdale is the town I chose to make my home. It's in the region called the Dalelands on the continent of Faerun on my home world of Toril." said the old wizard. He smiled, and remembered his home.

"I act as a sort of protector from the forces of evil on my world. But, I have a feeling that my world is old enough and wise enough to get along without me for a while. At least, that's what I hope. How about you? What's your world like?" he asked as he continued to sip his mead.

Rogue was at a loss when Elminster described his home but it confirmed what she and Bobby had suspected earlier. The people on this planet were clearly from different worlds and times. When she mentioned he was a protector, Rogue’s green eyes widen a little with interest. She was kind of a protector herself in a way, seeing as that was one of the jobs that came with being an X-man. “Like a superhero”, Rogue blurted out before realizing how stupid that might sound to him.

“My world is…” Rogue trailed off thoughtfully, propping one elbow on the edge of the bar and leaning chin against her gloved hand. It was hard to think of a simple way to describe earth but she figured there was no better way to start then to tell Elminster the name. “Well, I’m from a planet called Earth and I live in a town called Bayville, not too far from New York City”. Which meant nothing to Elminster of course.

“It’s got it’s one evil forces to worry about too”, Rogue added, her mind going to mutants like Magneto and Apocalypse. “I use to help my friends and protect people too but then I woke up here. I just hope they’re all doing okay”, she added wistfully.

"I suppose you could call me a super hero. I prefer to think of myself as a humble servant of Mystra, goddess of magic." said Elminster, as he listened to her description of her world.

"As do we all," he said in respose to her wishes to her friends and home. Elminster raised his glass, saying "To absent friends and distant homes."

"You seem somewhat young to be defending your world. Tell me, do you have some sort of magic to assist you?"

“Magic? Um…none, really. I mean I’ve got powers but they ain’t magical ones”, Rogue replied, tucking a stray bit of white hair behind her ear. For the second time today, Rogue told another person what she was. “If I were to touch another person I could absorbed everything they know and their memories. If they’ve got powers then I can take them too”, she added as a golem came up to them. It was obvious he wanted to know her order so Rogue said to the stone man, “Just a coke please. With ice and a straw?” she added. When the golem gave Rogue her drink, she looked back at Elminster. “Of course, I try not take people’s powers or memories unless I have to because it can hurt them if I hold on to long”.

The teenager took a sip of her drink and played with the straw as she asked Elminster a question. “You do magic huh? What kind and were you born like that?”

He listened to her as she told him about her powers. He now looked with understanding at her unusual garments. He now understood why this Rogue isolated herself physically. He had heard of innate powers, but never something this powerful.

"No, I had to study hard to achieve this level of magic. My magic comes both from my study and my goddess, Mystra. My spells can do everything from moving small objects, like that lantern earlier, to shifting the very fabric of reality. Though my magic comes from study, there are those who are born with the power. I take it you were born with your power?"

"Yes", Rogue replied, "But it didn't really kick in until I was 15. At least I don't think it did. Kinda hard to tell since I've been covering up since I was ten", she added. Irene had told Rogue she had a skin allergy when the girl was ten so for all she knew her power could have developed earlier. In Rogue's opinion Elminster's powers sounded more interesting and she envied his choice. He could choose what powers he wanted to gain through studying but Rogue had no choice.

"Not many people I know are completely happy being born with powers", Rogue said thoughtfully. "It'd probably be better for the world if people weren't born with them and had to learn and study like you did. Then only would people who really wanted power could have it and those who don't want to work for it would be deterred".

Elminster considered what she said for a moment, then nodded in agreement. He had faced many people in his time who lashed out against the world for the way they were born.

"While this is true, there are some instances where people who had their powers thrust upon them made huge differences. Even those who study for their powers abuse them. I could tell you stories of a wizard named Szass Tam that would make your hair curl."

"I imagine", Rogue said with a shiver. She wasn't in the mood for such stories tonight though as it conjured up thoughts of Apocolypse, a powerful mutant had recently tangled with. She took a few more sips of her drink, finishing it off. "Seems like there's no easy way to gurantee people with power won't abuse it", she said with shrug, befor turning her head to glance out at the crowd mingling about.

For the most part them seemed like a normal crowd but talking about power had darkened Rogue's mind and she suddenly didn't feel like being at a party. "It was nice meeting you Elminster", Rogue finally said, "But I think I'm going to head off. Too many people in one place for me", she said as she returned her eyes to the sage. "But I hope I get a chance to see you again".

"Indeed. It has certainly been an interesting evening. May fortune smile o you Rouge" he said as she retreated through the crowd toward the door. He reflected that most of those he had met so far in Mirage were unique in some way and wondered if the Planet was purposely selecting them for strange or unusual qualities.
