Basically Shadow's teleport works pretty much the same as the Portal gun from Portal, except he can stay down in the darkness as long as he wants. It's sort of like a combination of Portal and tunneling.

And I'm posting this just for prosperity and the fact that it's nice to know how these things work.

I guess you can also compare it to Kitty's phasing abilities, which would also be considerably close in at least aesthetics rather than function.
