[He's spent today running into quite a few people he now knows a hell of a lot better than he did a few days ago, even if a lot of the memories are getting increasingly fuzzy. This time, it's on an essential run for groceries, given neither he nor Ianto has spent any real time in their apartment lately and stocks are running low.

He's looking a lot happier than the last time Gaeta saw him twenty years in the future as he dances round the store, loading his basket with pizzas and ice-cream.]

Felix, hey!

((OOC: After Jack's thread with Ianto. I figured Gaeta might like to know things appear to be working out!))

[Gaeta, conversely, looks considerably more miserable than he did in the future as he goes about stocking up on fruit and ramen noodles. Outside of inhibition-lowering pleasure prisons and time travelling shenanigans, miserable is one of his few go-to moods. (The other three are politely disdainful, intensely guilt-laden, and sarcastic.)

But it's hard not to be ever-so-slightly-less-miserable when he sees a cheerful Jack. Cheerful is a much better look for him than the belligerent, drunken despair he was previously rocking.]

Hey, Jack. How're things?

((Yes, thank you! And apologies for the long delay. ;;))

Things are fantastic! [He can't help beaming as he says it, too hyped up to be drawn down even by Gaeta's habitual dourness.] Amazing, incredible, unbelievable!

[He forgets himself and smiles.] That many adjectives? What happened?

That many and even more! [And hey, look, a Felix-smile! It's a good look on him.]

Ianto and me happened. We actually did the talking thing and things turned out pretty great!

[And he got laid, but Gaeta can probably extrapolate that from his smile.]

Good for you--for both of you. [That isn't sarcasm! It's nice to see some of these crazy kids work out their problems and, judging from Jack's glow, have amazing make-up sex.] Everything's ironed out between you? No misgivings?

[He takes the congratulations as they seem to be meant, without sarcasm, and gives a little self-deprecating shrug.]

I wouldn't go so far as to say completely ironed out. More that we've found the iron and set up the ironing board. Realised we need to work on actually talking more about important stuff - but also that we can still connect the way we always have, through touch and physical pleasure.

[It feels slightly odd that he can remember connecting with Gaeta in a similar way, with a lot less emotion but that of course made things a lot simpler.]

I can't say that I know a lot about healthy, functional relationships, but that sounds like a good foundation for one.

[This should be a little awkward, right? But that future wasn't real and they were just friends with benefits. Pretty great benefits. Felix appreciates physical connections (craves them, almost, after being isolated from the rest of humanity for months on New Caprica), but the kind of emotional intimacy that Jack and Ianto are working on... that's not something he wants now. That kind of intimacy involves a lot more trust and patience than he's prepared to invest in another person.]

[He chuckles.] Yeah, surprisingly, after all this time, it's still not an area I'm that good in either, but yeah, it seems to be working so far!

[And he gets where Gaeta is with all this. Hell knows, he's been there - spent most of his life there, if he's honest. Which is why all this is so difficult and unfamiliar for him.

On the other hand, he's extremely practised at making casual, no-strings relationship work and therefore finds nothing at all awkward about interacting with Gaeta in such a way. And it meant a lot to him that Gaeta gave him that, in that semi-fictional future.]

I wanted to thank you, you know. I know that future wasn't real, but what we did on that one day was, and I appreciated you being there for me, that day.

Give it another couple hundred years. You'll figure it out.

[A thank you is the last thing that he was expecting today. It's a good thing there's probably a mistletoe bot sneaking up on them because he'd appreciate an excuse to kiss Jack right about now.]

What're friends who sleep together once in a while for?

[He snorts lightly.] Yeah, maybe!

[A mistletoe bot would certainly be welcome around about now, even though Jack's mostly forgotten about them in the wake of his reunion with Ianto. Which is unfair, really, considering that it was a bot trapping him with Ianto that really forced the two of them to actually get down to interacting in the first place.

He grins.]
Normally, I'd say "sleeping together", but the AIs have rather put an end to that idea! [A movement at the edge of his vision catches his attention and he grins wryly, bracing himself for the inevitable forcefield.] They may not want us to actually fuck, but they do seem to enjoy watching us get all hot and bothered without being able to follow through on any of it...

These restrictions... [He is so unhappy with these damned AIs. He could be having great, uncomplicated sex with an extremely attractive man right now! (Not right now. They're both shopping and that would be inappropriate. But!)] As if being trapped in a prison wasn't bad enough.

[Speaking of being trapped, though, hello forcefield.]

I don't want to give them what they're after, but there's no other way out of this. [It sure doesn't sound like he's opposed to this in the least. Probably because he's not.]

[Jack's really not opposed to what the bots want from them either, even if he is still a bit fed up with the fact they actively encourage - nay, force - them all to kiss each other while forbidding them to actually follow through on any of it.

So he gives Gaeta a sympathetic smile even as he shrugs and takes a step in as the forefield nudges at him.]

I guess we'll just have to grin and bear it! [He's still got a shopping basket in one hand which isn't going to make it through the barrier so rather than risking them getting splattered with ice-cream when the forcefield shrinks enough to squish the packaging, he steps right in without wasting time, cradling Felix's jaw with his free hand as he leans in to kiss him. Warm and friendly, and with a lot more familiarity than the time they've actually spent together should allow, because there's all that fictional future in his head too.]

[There's something dehumanizing about the entire band system--really, about the way everything in the prison seems designed to manipulate their choices or limit their ability to exercise free will.

There are worse ways to be manipulated.

He has his own basket in hand but the groceries are remarkably easy to disregard as he returns Jack's kiss in kind. It's easy to forget that they don't know each other all that well and haven't done this plenty of times before. Something can feel like an old habit without any clear, specific memories behind it.

It's probably just as well that the bot is of the easily-satisfied variety. It frees them so it can continue on its evil mission, leaving confetti (and some sexual frustration, at least on Gaeta's part) in its wake.]

I suppose it'd be strange if I said that I'd missed that. [The kissing Jack part, not the being trapped in a forcefield at the whim of a machine part.)]
