I don't know why you would even consider apologizing

[And although Chekov acknowledges that his captain is quite dashing, he has kissed him two times too many in his misadventures in jamjar universes. Both times were humiliating. He was younger and more awkward and so embarrassed since kissing superior officers is not The Done Thing.

The Russian has had a few years to relax and get more comfortable with informality, but he's still somewhat dismayed by the bot and the barrier.]

I would hold you to that promise if food here wasn't free.

[He sighs the long-suffering sigh of someone who has done this more than once and, without any of the shyness that might be expected, gives Kirk a business-like kiss.]

((OOC: Want to go mega bot? This feels too easy.))

[ No, it is not the Done Thing, but one has to let those sorts of restrictions go in situations like these. The Done Thing simply isn't always workable, after all.

He gives the other a sympathetic smile, recognizing this is not the sort of thing Chekov wanted and that it probably made him uncomfortable on several levels. ]

I can always cook. Does that make it worth something?

[ He blinked, surprised at Chekov's frankness. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but that... yeah, that was it. He hardly expected the other to throw himself into it after all.

He leaned back, waiting, waiting... and nothing. The barrier remained. ]

I take it back. I'll get you alcohol and cook for you.

[ ooc: obviously my answer is yes, mwhahahaha ]

[It's not even the kissing. Chekov is an affectionate person in his private life. It's a continued inability to wholly separate work from that private life--the same inability that makes him stumble over calling Kirk Jim--that makes this particularly uncomfortable, even the third time, even now that he's not as tightly wound around his captain.

He shoots the barrier a wounded look when it doesn't go anywhere.]

Seeing you cook would be worth a lot, but I don't think that this will traumatize me so much that alcohol will be necessary. [He tilts his head and looks at Kirk like he's a stubborn and vaguely intimidating math problem. Perfunctory kisses are one thing. Satisfying this sadistic bot is going to take a little more work.] How should we proceed?

Well, I am your captain. Let me lead.

[ He bit his lip, hesitating that fraction because this was Chekov, one of his crew. He shouldn't do this, but this wasn't the Enterprise, and this wasn't any sort of normal situation. So he reached out, brushing his fingers gently through the dark red curls til he cupped the back of his head, resting the other against his hip.

He drew Chekov forward, leaning down to touch their lips - soft at first, and then firmer, molding to the shape of them. He brushed his tongue across the lower curl of Chekov's lip, asking for more (and it would need to be more, but still, no need to be crass about it. ]

[Oh. Well.

Chekov initially freezes, wide-eyed and shocked that this is a thing that's happening and Kirk's going for it. Skillfully, as would be expected of Kirk.

The Russian reminds himself that this, while decidedly unprofessional, is absolutely necessary and he will need to reciprocate to make the bot go away. He sets his hands on his captain's shoulders, seeking some leverage to deepen the kiss. He's never known what to do with his tongue (he'll be taking mental notes on that since Kirk seems to know exactly what to do), but he's perfectly capable of opening up to further exploration.]

[ Look, if he was going to have do to this, he was going to do it right, damn it. He was your captain, and he was not about to leave you with a terrible experience. And he has a reputation to keep up.

Chekov's clumsiness with his tongue is rather charming and he hummed against his lips, gently coaxing as he played with the other. It was gentle, slow, teasing, encouraging the other to follow and reciprocate as his arms wound around him, tugging him closer and hugged tight. ]

[There are circumstances in which Chekov might forget himself long enough to enjoy this. The last time the mistletoe bots came around, for instance, he was lonely and needy and participated in a kiss or two that was more than was strictly necessary. Now, though, he has a girlfriend that he would much rather be kissing and he can't stop reminding himself that this is Kirk.

But he's playing along, carefully and somewhat clinically noting what the other man is doing and trying to respond appropriately. It's certainly not bad, he just... can't get lost in it. Can a kiss that involves tongue be executed academically? Apparently so. Chekov just hopes that Kirk and the bot aren't offended by his complete inability to embrace this experience.]

[ Well, you aren't his first choice either Chekov. You're one of the ones he didn't want to end up kissing today - which wasn't a commentary on you as a person, of course, Chekov. Just, you're his navigator, and like a brother more than anything, and he's your Captain, so yeah, you weren't on the list.

Admittedly, he feels he could perform better, but like Chekov it's hard to just sink into the thing. He seriously hopes this is enough, and after a moment they are rewarded with a victory tone and confetti raining down on their hair.

Kirk disengaged and stepped back, giving off a laugh. ]

So that's what a real Russian tastes like, huh?

[It's nice that this is a mutual aversion.

But then they're done and Chekov has had an educational experience and Kirk is chasing away the awkwardness by saying ridiculous Kirk things.]

I'm not convinced that I'm the first real Russian you've tasted.

[ Leave it to your Captain, Chekov. ]

Not like there's a lot of Russians running around Riverside, Iowa. Or San Francisco for that matter.

Iowa and San Francisco are all the poorer for that.

It's true. And the vodka really is just sub-par.
