Kirk was no tender maiden to get his hear broken from being so rapidly dismissed, but he would be lying if he said it hadn't hurt just a little. He was known for his one-night stands and his lack of a relationship status, but he did his best to make sure no one felt used. Not that he thought Jack had used him, but there was still a slight sour feeling in his stomach over the affair.

"Hey," he said, slowing. He was wearing knee length running jammers and shorts over them, and nothing else - maybe a bit for his vanity, and the other simply because running in sand worked up a sweat.

"How have you been?" he asked, which really meant 'did you fix things' but he wasn't sure he was in a position to ask.

To be fair to Kirk, that morning hadn't been the way Jack would normally do things. The way he would normally do things had been the way the morning before had gone. Waking up with someone he wasn't blue-banded to after twenty years of playing around and upsetting the person he was blue-banded to (yes, okay, there was Spike as well, but they all knew he wasn't the one it was all about) had been a very specific circumstance he really wasn't expecting to have to deal with and he'd panicked.

He was really kind of wishing he'd been able to handle things a bit better that morning. He had memories of becoming really good friends with Kirk in the future - a lot more than just the sex - and even if those memories were fading now he'd hoped they could become friends in this reality too, even if the sex wasn't going to be a thing. Although, looking at Kirk now, looking hot in more ways than one in those shorts, he was going to a little disappointed about the no sex thing.

At least Kirk was still talking to him. "Uh..." he dithered, paying more attention to drying himself than really necessary to give himself time to come up with a response. In the end he just shrugged. "Not great, to be honest."

Kirk wasn't in a position to make a comment about that whole scenario. He doubted it would help and besides, he hardly knew Jack. Barely a month if that. Feeling a connection, both as a friend and as a potential bedmate, wasn't enough to embolden him to speak to Jack's love life. Though now that he has tasted a day with Jack, he would be the first to admit that it was hard to swallow the idea they couldn't share that again (not least because, on some level, he needed that unique form of intimacy and physical outlet).

"Makes sense. Having memories shoved in your head like that through a glitch - has to be troubling to say the least," he sympathized, slowly coming closer, chest heaving as he sucked in breaths. There, just at the corner of his shoulder, was the faintest blush of a bruise left behind.

"Troubling is one way of putting it, yeah," he grimaced, finally dropping the towel because he'd run out of places to dry. Without its distraction he felt oddly naked, which had nothing to do with the fact that he was wearing less than Kirk was (bright blue Speedos, to match his eyes) and everything to do with the fact he was feeling the most emotionally vulnerable he could remember ever feeling. He spotted the bruise on Kirk's shoulder, and immediately remembered half a dozen others that he would have been still sporting himself if he didn't heal so much quicker than the average human.

"Look, I'm sorry for thinking it was you who were glitching, that day," he said awkwardly. "I should have known better. It just felt so incredibly real. Still does, if I'm honest!"

((OOC: I assume the bruise is something Jack left behind? Correct me if I'm misinterpreting!))

Let it never be said Kirk wasted an opportunity. With Jack standing there in practically nothing, of course he was going to give him a once over, probably a twice. He should feel bad about that, he knew, but Jack was sexy and if there was one thing Kirk knew Jack was not ashamed of it was his body. He couldn't help but notice that Jack wasn't sporting evenidence of the day before, but that was probably because of the glitch, he thought, and not Jack's strange time bio-chemistry.

"No, it's all right. All the evidence pointed to that. You weren't the only one experiencing it, after all." One could hardly fault the other for following what the data said. "It was real enough me. Think I'm going to feel it for another day or two." He tossed Jack a charming, lop-sides grin, hoping to make him laugh.

On the plus side, however troubled he was Jack never had any problems with someone eyeing up his body. He knew he was blessed with remarkable beauty and saw no reason why other people shouldn't enjoy it too.

Kirk's comment and grin did draw a chuckle from him, as he reached out to brush a light finger over the bruise. It felt good to focus on something other than the hell of a future trapped in a tiny fishbowl for ever and ever.

"Enjoy the reminders while you can," he said lightly, smirk fading to more of an affectionate smile. "I'm kind of sorry you don't remember any more of what we did together in that future. We had some good times."

((OOC: Heh, yeah, the lack of marks would definitely be because of the glitch! It's hard keeping my timelines straight at the moment!))

Even now, the touch made him shiver. And why shouldn't it? He found Jack attractive, and the intimate attention from a few days before was hard to erase from memory. Still, even knowing he couldn't indulge in that further, he didn't want to shy away from Jack's acquaintance.

He looked up at Jack, those bright blue eyes guileless, almost painfully so. "It's okay. I prefer to make those memories myself - have them be a surprise." He touched the hand on his shoulder, giving a comforting squeeze to his fingers. "Trust me, good times will abound."

The openness of that gaze was a bit much to deal with, frankly, with the state he was in, and he turned his own gaze to those fingers squeezing his instead, twisting his hand over so he could squeeze back. Because whatever else Kirk had been to him in that future, he'd been a friend - a good friend, someone who thought the way he did about a lot of things, someone who understood him - and he was just realising how much he'd missed that. Their friendship in this time was still very new - but perhaps this would be a reminder to him to foster it, to not push Kirk away as he seemed so very good at doing.

"Yeah," he said eventually, with a bit of a watery smile. "Good times of any kind feel rather a long way away right now."

Especially since he caught movement out of the corner of his eye and realised it was one of those pesky bots swooping in.

Jack might have realized, but it was to late for either of them to do anything about it. The damn things were fast, and always seemed to speed up when they realized they were caught. It made it feel like trying to escape the inevitable, which gnawed at Kirk since he had never believed in that sort of thing in the first place.

"That's half your problem, I think, Jack," Kirk said even as he realized they were being encased in the barrier from a bot. It didn't matter just this second. "You're always to focused on the far off, instead of the now." He shook his head and stepped closer to him. "I would think at your age you would know that it's the moment you're in that counts the most."

Jack had learned long ago that there was no point trying to hide (not that there was anywhere to hide on the beach) or outrun the bots. Once they'd seen you, that was it, and they especially seemed to love catching him, since they'd seen him have such fun with their little game in the past.

So for the moment he more or less ignored the forcefield that had snapped into place around them, apart from turning his head to give the bot a wry, long-suffering look because, hey, why not make another of his relationships just that little bit more complicated? Then he turned back to give Kirk a slightly different wry kind of smile, because if there was anyone who shared that philosophy it was him. Except... "Kinda the living in the now and not looking ahead philosophy that got me into trouble this time," he muttered dryly, even as he took a step in at the nudging of the barrier. He smiled. "But I have to say, if I'm going to live in the moment, this is a pretty good kind of moment to live in!"

And he reached for Kirk, pulling him in for a kiss that was somehow simultaneously enthusiastic and regretful, needy and affectionate, a thank you for all those dark mornings and nights when he'd been there, as a friend or a distraction or both.

"Please, even I know that wasn't your problem," he shook his head with a dry laugh, feet sliding in the sand as the barrier pushed at him. What? It was his own little way of a rebelling, even though he knew it was pointless, and certainly was not a reflection on Jack.

His smile turned warm and genuine at that, a warm flush spreading through him. He could no more deny his attraction to Jack than a bee to a flower, even though he knew that anything more than a friendship wasn't possible now. Maybe not ever. It would simply be an undercurrent in whatever they did build together, as companions or otherwise.

There was no hesitation as he kissed Jack, unsure of what it was he felt in that kiss, of the things Jack remembered and he did not. All he could give Jack back was equal desire and need, wrapped up in the regret of knowing that more than this was probably never to come. There was a promise too, a promise that if he needed it, this would be here, but also that Kirk would simply be there, kisses or no. There was affection and acceptance and even forgiveness, though Kirk did not think that Jack had anything to apologize for.

All that in the tangle of tongues and lips and the way his fingers pressed against his warm skin, careful to avoid his nails so as not to leave a mark. ]

[ ooc: up to you if they have to keep kissing more or if you want that to be it - I am down for either! ]

It had been a while since anyone new here had caught his attention the way Kirk had. Things had been relatively simple for a while, without any else distracting him from Ianto and Spike, with the sole exception of Kitty, but that had been going on long enough he'd mostly worked out how to deal with it for the moment. This, though - this was new and exciting and potentially very dangerous while he worked out how to deal with it now that things were so much more serious with Ianto, not to mention their most recent and very major upset.

That didn't stop him putting everything he had into the kiss, because he was Jack and he did live in the moment, and because it was Kirk, to whom he felt a great degree of attraction. And, hey, because they were both standing here on a beach with barely anything on and a lot of bare skin to explore with his hands whilst thoroughly exploring Kirk's mouth with his tongue.

Apparently, though, even that wasn't enough for the greedy little bot hovering nearby. Perhaps there was too much complex communication and not enough raw passion to satisfy it, but whatever the reason, when Jack finally pulled back to breathe and to glance upwards for the expected shower of confetti, instead of that he got a bot chanting demandingly: "Kiss more! Kiss better!"

((OOC: I think we have to go for more, don't you? Given how much more complicated that will make things!))

Kirk knew he shouldn't cause trouble for Jack and Ianto. He knew he shouldn't, because those two obviously cared for each other in ways he had never cared for anyone. Not like that. Yet the selfish part of him wanted this more than he could say. He wanted this from a man whom he thought could understand, whom was so like him that it was almost a bit comical. He would hardly call it love. It was lust, pure and simple, and the desire for someone, anyone, who could bridge the gaps that had stood between him and so many others for the past four years.

When the bot declared it needed more, Kirk looked to Jack, a question swimming in his eyes because more could either of them give? What more could either of them take? Oh, he knew there was more, but he had tried to be a good man, a righteous one and not seek more than what was offered.

"Seems our technique is in question," he huffed as the barrier tightened, making the most comfortable place to be flush against Jack's body, his forehead resting against the older man's.

[ ooc: but of course! Also sorry for the slow reply. It has been a very interesting week at work ]

Yeah, this was pretty sure to cause trouble in the long run, though probably not more than the wardens' meddling had already caused with it, and Jack certainly wouldn't blame Kirk for it. He'd blame the AIs and he'd blame the laws of attraction and he'd probably blame himself, but he wouldn't blame Kirk, not when he had no choice whatsoever about the proceedings.

That didn't in any way mean he was happy about this little development, though, and the meddlesome bot got a full-on glare before he turned his attention back to Kirk, striving for levity to offset the stirrings of trepidation within, because this really good be dangerous.

"Not a complaint I've had all that often," he agreed lightly, though there was a clear thread of tension running through his voice. "Still, I guess we'd better try again, eh?"

One hand running up Kirk's sun-warmed back to tilt his head back up again as he leaned in for attempt number two. Keeping it very light, for now, sweet and sensuous, trying to focus this time on the physical and not get into any complicated emotional communication. Something nice and simple that the bot could understand.

"I'm not sure I can handle my reputation being in tatters because of robot, no," he agreed, shivering at the brush of Jack's fingers, looking back at Jack as the other man leaned in.

For the sake of comfort he slid his arms back around Jack's shoulders, pressing against his lips, tongue brushing across them in a swift tease. He was glad there was nothing there to answer by the physicality of it, not this time. He wasn't sure he could have handled another kiss like that, and thus was happy to let Jack lead. He would know what the bots needed, after all, having been through their boorish game before. ]

Well, to be fair, even with his experience, Jack wasn't sure what would work in this instance. He'd never actually had a bot demanding more after such an intense kiss as that one had been! So trying a different tack was a bit of a gamble, but he figured it might be easier on them both than another full-out frontal assault!

Which was not to say there was not a good deal of heat in the kiss. It was just more controlled this time, more focussed on the kiss and less about communicating anything other than attraction and want. He smiled at the sensation of Kirk's tongue on his lips, his own tongue slipping out to tangle with Kirk's. Still sweet and slow, enjoying letting the pleasure and intensity build gradually this time.

Maybe the bot was glitching, just like they could? Without being able to crack the thing open, Kirk doubted they would ever get an answer, and did it matter? No matter what they did, the only way out was to kiss - which was not the most terrible thing he'd ever had to do to get out of a situation.

He didn't think much about it, focusing on the slide of Jack's tongue against his own, a warm battle that was more of a slow dance, savoring the taste of his lips and the building heat.

He certainly didn't have a problem with having to kiss Kirk - except in that he knew how these things went and that the almost inevitable result was that he was going to be left wanting more. Especially given that they were both half-naked in the warm sun, as they were already halfway to more than just a kiss. It was going to be hard (pun mostly intended) to pull back afterwards.

But he tried to put such thoughts out of his head, and tried to just enjoy the moment the way he'd always done, the tastes and scents and sensations that sent delicious trickles of desire through him, heat steadily building, and his hands started to move over that sun-warmed skin again, his breath growing short as he couldn't stop himself pressing into the kiss, half-lost in memories of a fake future, half-just lost in the present and its heady sensations.

Already Kirk knew he would want more. He had wanted more since the first time they kissed and he knew it would be something always underlying his relationship with Jack, whether they stayed friends, became enemies, or went to something more. He certainly didn't want to pull away now, not with Jack's taste on his tongue and the warm press of him against his body.

He shivered when Jack's hands began to move, sighing against his lips, remembering the way it had felt to kiss him that morning in the bed, to have his hands running over him, and much more than that too. His hand cupped Jack's neck, thumb stroking along his jaw. He would stop when Jack stopped, or when the bot let them. He was selfish enough to want this to go on as long as Jack would let him have.

Yep, more was going to be wanted - was already wanted, truth be told, but he was doing his absolute best to deny it. The last thing he needed right now was more complications in his love-life.

And yet, it was so easy to fall into it all. Being with Kirk was easy; they understood each other in all the right ways, and had done right from the start. Kirk hadn't needed the twenty years he'd had in that alternate timeline to know how to get to him (although the experience certainly hadn't hurt); it been instinctive on both their parts, right from the start. That thumb stroking his jaw made him shiver right along with Kirk, and moan loudly, his skin thrumming with desire and anticipation, wanting more.

Except that there, right on cue, just as he was starting to lose the power to think straight, came bubbly cheering and the first brush of confetti against his cheek. He pretty much groaned into Kirk's mouth, and it was a long, long moment before he could muster up the strength to pull away, slowly, regretfully, knowing deep down that he was well and truly fucked, and not in the way he'd really like to be.

That was the trouble with easy, wasn't it? How many times had he learned the lesson that the easy route could be the dangerous route? And Jack certainly was dangerous. This easy, fun thing to fall into it. This forbidden thing.

He was glad the other lingered after the cheer, glad that he had those fleeting extra seconds to savor the other and believe it all wasn't just because a robot was forcing them too. He tugged at Jack's lip ever so lightly as he pulled away with his teeth, panting as he stood so close to him still.

"Well, that's certainly one for the record books," he smirked.

It really wasn't all because a robot was forcing them. Not at all. Jack wanted it badly, and it was taking all the willpower he had just to drag himself back, out of touching range, away from all that heat and excitement and desire.

Kirk certainly wasn't the only one who was panting.

"Yeah," he said breathlessly, and managed a fleeting grin, even while his instincts were screaming at him to get away while he still could, even though he knew deep down it was way too late for that.

He forced himself to take another step back, out of range - which of course revealed to Kirk's sight just how much effect that kiss had had on him. Not a lot you could hide in a pair of tight Speedos!

He should be good. He would be a good man and not ask for more or seek more and make it harder on Jack, harder on himself. Damn it, things always had to be like this didn't they? Those little obstacles that made life that much more difficult.

He naturally caught sight of the state he had put Jack in, and could not help himself from smirking. Blue eyes sparked, looking up at Jack again, but he made no move to close the distance between them again.

"Remember to take a shower - get all the sand off you," Kirk warned him, the "cold" part going unsaid but very clearly inserted with his tone.

Ah well, it had been a while since Jack had been made to suffer through something like this. Perhaps he was due some suffering.

He gave Kirk a dirty look at his comment. "Sand, yeah, that's what I need to get rid of!" he said sarcastically, stooping to pick up his towel from where it had fallen.

"Better get on with that, I guess," he grimaced, and jerked his head in the direction of the athletics complex where a shower and his clothes were awaiting him. "I'll catch up with you later, eh? On a day when it's not quite so dangerous to be out!"

Not that there needed to be mistletoe bots around to make encountering Kirk dangerous.
