[She just smiled at him.]

Yeah. Same here.

[She looked around.] Well, I'm pretty well stocked up on the usuals, so I could throw together anything you're interested in right now. The tomato basil soup with rice came out really good today, though, and I toasted up some bread to use for croutons. Want that with a side salad?

That sounds like the best thing in the world, thank you. [ He'll always go for soup. Soup is great. ] We're lucky we got you around, Piper.

You're just saying that because I'm feeding you.

[She chuckled, teasing him lightly.]

Alright. Help yourself to something to drink and I'll bring it right out for you.

[She went to grab a bowl.]

Maybe a little bit. [ He grins, but it's partially true. He may be an okay cook but it's so nice that they still have people in the dome who knows how to do it for real. ]

Thanks. I appreciate it.

[ He goes to take a seat in the meantime. ]

[She chuckled a little as he headed out of the kitchen.

Deciding now was a good time for a break, she dished up two bowls of soup and two salad plates so she could join him. She brought them out and settled down at his table.]

Soup and salad sounded like a good way to take a lunch break. I hope you don't mind.

Of course not. Food always tastes better with company.

[ He smiles at her, quite happy to tuck in with someone rather than alone like a sad person. ]

How're things lately?

Pretty decent.

[She smiled.]

It's been fairly calm around here lately, so it's a nice change from when things were really crazy there for a while. I know some of the longer term residents haven't been handling things all that great, but as long as we all stick together, it should be okay, right?

I'd like to think so. Ain't like we got much of a choice anymore either, huh?

[ He chuckles a little, even though it's a bummer to be stuck in the same place with the same people your entire life. Don't get him wrong, he loves his neighbors, but c'mon... ]

[It had gotten very insular, and Piper really didn't envy the longer-lived people of the dome. The population was aging, and would eventually pass on. But those who were immortal were stuck to stay, and it seemed like a very daunting thing to have to go through.]

That's true.

[She poked at her soup a little, giving it a stir.]

Do you think anyone will ever find a way home? I mean, for me, I guess I don't mind so much anymore. But, I worry about the people here who aren't aging. What's going to happen to them over time?

I dunno... I think, if there's a way home we would've found it by now. Don't you think? We've been here so long already.

[ As for their vampires and other assorted immortals. ]

I don't envy those people at all... 's gotta be hard, facin' down eternity here.

Yeah. [On both accounts.] It's going to eventually get lonely.

[She wasn't sure why she was so thoughtful about this stuff today. It just kind of hit her when she spotted Neil and Tieria together the day before. She saw them often now that she was with Lyle, and, while she and the twins had aged, Tieria had not. She was concerned for him.]

It's so strange to see how some of us have changed and some of us haven't. I found a picture the other day of Lyle and I when we first started dating. It was so weird.

I think all of us has changed, even if it doesn't show. [ He muses, quietly. Some days he hardly remember what he was like when he first arrived, in an entirely different prison. ]

But I get what you're sayin'. It gets weird, lookin' at someone who looks th' same when you met 'em and then you look in th' mirror and it's this old man lookin' back. Messes with your head.

[She nodded.]

Exactly. You're right. All of us have to some extent. But, it's the physical ones, or lack there of, that we notice the most.

[She smiled a little, almost sadly.]

This really wasn't where I expected to be for so much of my life.

Me neither. [ He sighs, slowly stirring the soup. ] Figured I'd have kids by now. Heck, figured I'd've taken over the farm by now.

I'm curious as to how my son my grew up. I know my sisters would have taken care of him really well. I am a little worried about Leo being a Whitelighter. That can be hard to have a family and still carry that responsibility.

[She sighed.] I try not to think about it too much. [A family had definitely been a major goal for her. Having gotten to that point, with all the trouble she and Leo had getting pregnant, it had been pretty crushing when she received those new memories and was still here in the dome away from them.]

Me neither. Ain't nothin' we can do about it anyway, huh? Not anymore. Might as well make the best of th' situation.

[ Although it feels a lot like he's just waiting it out at this point, getting older and fatter and sadder. ]

No. Not really.

[She gave him a sad smile. She felt the same, to be honest.]

It almost makes me wish for something weird to happen, if only to break the monotony.

Y'know, I've been thinkin' 'bout that too. I kinda miss wakin' up with ears or somethin'. At least then we had somethin' to do.

[She laughed a little.]

I know, right? Or when the museum has weird themed displays of something for a day or two.

I also miss the little celebrations, like with the dances and carnivals. Not that we can't do that ourselves, but it was kind of a fun surprise to wake up to with having it all finished already for us.

Yeah. I guess they did in a way.

Kept us from getting bored, at least.

[She chuckled.]

Sorry to bring things down earlier.
