A completely innocent figure of speech with no ulterior motive. Probably. [No, never getting tired of this. He doesn't deserve how good this is, not with how things started out, with Spike so patiently sharing him for so long. Right now, on mornings like this when he feels so lucky and in love and happy he wishes he could change the way all this started. If he could go back in time tomorrow he'd do it differently, end things with Jack right then and there and do something to deserve the way Spike has always adored him. Never heard you complain about it before.

[ And by now he's actually written some. Nothing that's ever going to leave this apartment, but still. It's a nice return to the good old days. He stretches out in bed, watching Ianto walk out. In the beginning he was the one to heat up the blood in the morning but he has to admit Ianto is way better at getting the temperature right. ]

[There has been a lot of poetry and he's loved every poem. He's not a very material person or all that sentimental but he's kept every one Spike's ever written him, folded neatly away in the volumes of diaries he's competed over the years.

A few minutes later and he's back, passing Spike his blood and rearranging his pillow so he can sit up more comfortably in bed and pull him closer against his side. The skull ring on his finger clinks gently against his mug as he takes a sip.]

The fact that I don't have to cook is easily the best part of all this. Forget the immortality or the super powers.

As I recall I wasn't the one who needed convincing. [He did so much work before even approaching the subject with him all those years ago. He hadn't even asked about the idea of being turned until he had talked to everyone he needed to in order to assure his soul would be ready and waiting for him. He'd had Spike do it to his real body, too, the one asleep in the pod up there once he knew it wouldn't all be an illusion, that he wouldn't still die of old age even if he appeared not to change in this virtual world. Even with all his research it had still been exhausting convincing him but yes, is been worth it.]

I always used to worry that you'd leave me behind before. That I'd just be a blip in time you'd forget about once I died. [He used to worry the same thing about Jack, but he doesn't say that.]

I know that now. [He points out with a fond roll of his eyes. Twenty years of memories - almost all of them good ones - is enough to make that clear. There have been a lot of doubts and challenges over that time but he's never for one moment questioned how much they mean to each other. That this was never just some fling, that it was always something so much more.]

You remember when all this started, that very first morning after when you asked if I'd ever leave Jack for you? If I could go back to then I would. If I had a second chance I'd do things right with you from the beginning.

I refuse to admit that you're right. [Even at times like this when he is. Then again Spike does seem to be handling the breakup with Jack better than he is. He's certainly less resentful about it all. Then again, the last few years have felt like this relationship was just the two of them, long before it actually was. Maybe he's adjusted better. Either way that's the sort of comment that deserves as intense of a kiss as he can manage without spilling any blood on the sheets.]

[ He's handling it better because Spike is, at his very core, a monogamous man. Jack was a part of the relationship but he was never Spike's to claim. They shared things, but they didn't really share each other if that makes sense and although there was a moment of disappointment when the threeway fell apart, he has to admit that it was more on Ianto's behalf than hurt feelings. This is what he wanted all along. This is what he's good at.

He kisses him back, balancing the cup with ease. Well, for now. ]

Really should've learned by now that I'm always right.

[He's been glad to have Spike here through all of this. He's always loved him but the last few years have made him feel closer to him than ever, more in love, more humble, more undeserving than ever of having him in his life. He's tried to show it, and he knows he doesn't have to say anything for him to understand. It makes him press happily into the kiss, a few drops of blood sloshing out onto his fingers but who cares?]

If I was keeping track, which of course I'm not, I would probably have to admit how true that is.

Please tell me you're suggesting we just go eat him and be done with it. [Not that he's ever actually eaten anybody but hey, a guy can dream. Then again, the other alternative sounds good too, particularly since his ears are good enough to know full well that Jack had company last night. If they can make things awkward for it one by two people so much the better.]
