I hate to break it to you but you know that book isn't about gardening right? [Some things, like unhelpful Phanan sarcasm, never change. Just about everything else is different for him and not just because he's getting old and gray now. Even most of the prosthetics are different than the ones he showed up with but Rebecca's done a good job with the repairs over the years and the yellow eye twinkles just as manically as the red one ever did.]

I hope you're giving him a raise to compensate all the hard work you put him through. [Scooch over, his sitting down with you. A lot slower and more stiffly than he once would have but what else can you expect when you're mostly mechanical at his age?]

I will have you know I am a respected and talented doctor. [Not quite true. Sure he still works at the clinic but he spends just as much time helping out at the Dive. Probably more, in fact.]

I only carry pie on days that don't end in a five. [So most days then.] I just happened to forget it today.

I'm going to make Pavel some kind of traditional Russian food. No idea what yet, but I have the cookbook. [There are other things, but her brushing up on a language or going to work out is hardly news.] So probably finding a respected doctor to take him to after I accidentally poison him.
