[ Jack is being weird today but whatever, when isn't he being weird. Spike shrugs and turns back to the bar, liberating a couple of bottles of whiskey from behind it. He can hang at the arcade, no problem, as long as he has something to drink. ]

Hey, ho. Let's go.

[ Amazing how emphasis can completely change the meaning of a sentence. ]

[He's not sure quite how well conversation is going to work this evening, but perhaps they won't need that much. Booze and pub sports should fill in for at least some of it.]

All right, let's get out of here. [He's quite relieved that they've got somewhere else to go, considering all the associations the Blood Shack has for Spike with Ianto. He really wants them to make this their own thing on their own terms.]

So, how've you been? Had a few relatively quiet days, haven't we?

[ They'll manage, somehow. Spike is in a pretty good mood, despite the weirdness and that's usually a decent sign that it won't be a terrible night.

He shrugs in response - yeah, it's been quiet. He's not complaining, tho he does raise a brow at Jack. ]

You're looking bored.

[That gets him a raised brow back.] Bored? Relieved, more like! We need a few quiet days in between all the things they fling at us!

[Except... Well. He flashes Spike a conspiratorial grin.] Mind you, I can't say I don't miss the way it used to be at Torchwood sometimes. Never got a chance to breathe in between things most of the time, back then.

[ That grin is met with one just like it, except perhaps more lopsided than conspiratorial. ] We like noise, it's a choice, it's what we wanna do.

[ And then, almost confession-like. ] I don't work. I just speed. That's all that I need. I'm a lazy sod.

Got that right! We both like being in the action, don't we? [It feels good to be reminded of what they have in common.]

And hey, you're not lazy! Not when there's something you want, at least. You go after it tooth and nail! [A sidelong glance.] Like the way you've thrown everything at making this thing between the three of us work.

[And hey, here's the arcade, which is a good way to head off the conversation before it gets too serious.]

Pool, then? Or would you prefer something else?

[ He snorts, but Jack's not wrong — he has been working hard to make this as smooth as possible, harder than he ever thought he would. When he wants something, he goes for it with all he's got. It's kind of nice to hear that Jack understands that much, at least. ]

Let's go.

[ He grins, heading for the pool table and picking up a cue. ]

Fight for money, fight for fun? [ Wanna take bets? ]

[He takes up the other cue and chalks it up, grinning at Spike over the top of it.]

Sure! What do you want to play for? Strip pool? [Well, he's Jack. What did you expect?] Confessions? Truth or dare? Drinking game?

[Speaking of which, there was whiskey, wasn't there? He snags one of the bottles Spike brought along and takes a swig.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

this will be interesting
[info]chipswiththat
2016-10-13 04:49 pm UTC (link)
[ He ponders on that, absentmindedly twirling the cue in his hands — drinking game would be easy but it takes so bloody long and he'd prefer to drink any damn time he wants to. Confessions then, however he's going to convey that to Jack. ]

Loose lips sink ships, they say but isn't it always that way? If you think you can, well come on man.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Indeed!
[info]foreverjack
2016-10-13 06:20 pm UTC (link)
Confessions, then? [He grins, watching Spike twirl the cue, loving the edge of menace it gives him.]

Miss a pot, make a confession? [As he flips a coin for the break off. (Don't ask me where he got a coin from in a money-less society!)] Heads or tails?

[ Hey, maybe he still had it from home or snatched it off Reid in an unguarded moment. He's sure holding on to some quarters still, for magic purposes. ]

I kick you in the head. [ Heads. Heads. That's what he means. ]

[He gets it. Sure, talking would be easier without Spike's inner poet taking charge this evening (yes, he knows what they're quotes from, but it sure feels like poetry in that understanding requires extra concentration!) but he's managing all right.]

Heads it is! [He gestures towards the table, pocketing the coin as he steps back.] Your break off.

[ Smirking, Spike takes the cue in a secure grip, leaning in to do the break. It's swift and forceful, like most things he does and sure enough, he does sink one — stripes. He lines up another shot and this time it misses, barely. Groaning he straightens up and looks at Jack — well? Are we asking questions or just making up our own bullshit? ]

[It's as impressive as he expected, given Spike's power and the amount of time he's presumably spent in establishments like this, whiling away the hours, and he nods his approval, taking another drink of whiskey because he suspects he's going to need it!

And then Spike misses his second shot, and he smirks at Spike's questioning face.

Then pauses to consider how to play this because the speaking only in quotes things could make this quite complicated. Will it be easier to interpret what Spike comes out with if he asks a direct question?

He shrugs.]
How about I suggest a topic for you to confess something about? [That should cut down on the confusion. He grins.] Angel.

[ Should've seen that coming really and it's a complicated topic to breach even if he knows what Jack is after — the sexy parts, of which there are very few. That one time, in the early days, out of boredom or perhaps it was all part of the young upstart yipping around the Alfa's heels. He had no shame in admitting that then, before Angel got his soul. He was Yoda. Angelus was everything and then he was nothing but pitiful.

It takes him a moment before he gets the words together. ]

I remember lying awake at night. There ain't no moonlight after midnight. There was fuck all else to do.

By Christ, you should've seen us.

[It's not just the sexy stuff. Angel is a topic Spike keeps on coming back to, even if just with oblique references, so it's a fairly natural choice. That said, he does rather enjoy the response he gets, poetry and all. It sounds very Spike.]

I wish I had! [Warmly, as he lines up his first shot. And misses. It's a long time since he last played pool. He draws in a breath and straightens, spreading his hands to Spike in invitation.]

You've really gone and done it now.

[ He snorts, quite pleased that Jack isn't as good at this as Spike thought he'd be. Sticks and balls and holes and all that. Question is what he'll ask and seeing as Jack apparently can't understand the Queen's english today, Spike takes a moment to find a pen and napkin.

He jots down Ianto and slides it over to Jack. ]

[Honestly, Spike? Does everything have to be a sex reference with you? ;-)

He watches as Spike writes but the name the napkin eventually shows him is hardly a surprise. He chuckles lightly.]
I'm not sure I have anything new to confess about Ianto!

[He thinks for a bit, and then lifts his gaze to Spike's.] One of my biggest regrets, for a long time, was that even when he was dying in my arms, I couldn't tell him I loved him. I couldn't even really admit it to myself, until I'd lost him, that first time.

[ Maybe he's getting rubbed off on.

This right here is what makes them so different. After Dru, Spike never hesitated in telling anyone he loves them. He also never hesitated on setting the world on fire to prove it. ]

And I think of times we were together, as time went on it seemed forever, but times have changed. Now things are better. Someone had to pay the price.

[ He lines up another shot. There's no point in arguing this today, when Jack is being weird. ]

[Not literally, though. At least not yet!

He narrows his eyes at Spike, trying to work through the poetry to what Spike's actually trying to tell him. The first part, 'forever', has to be about Dru, surely? But the rest of it...]

'Someone had to pay the price'? Who? You? Me? Ianto?

[Work with him here, Spike. This is not his genre!]

[ He stops mid-shot to roll his eyes again, abandoning the game for a moment to write something on the napkin. This is the worst. Jack, you're the worst. The thing he said wasn't really about Dru at all, though it could easily be interpreted as such. It was more a general commentary on life being short, which he knows all too much about despite being immortal.

He slides over the napkin again.

You can't be afraid of love. ]

if my hands are the color of blood then, baby, I can tell ya love kills.

[ Joe Strummer, not Ramones, not Sex Pistols, but it did feature in that one film about Sid Vicious so maybe it counts. ]

[info]foreverjack
2016-10-16 01:04 pm UTC (link)
[Life is definitely not short in Jack's case, but the lives of the people he lets himself care about are, so it's a good point to make. It's one he's come back to time after time, alternating between trying to make the most of every moment he's given, and trying not to care because it's always over far too soon.

He reads the napkin and smiles ruefully.]

Yeah. I know. Love is - well, all that stuff about it being a two-edged sword is accurate enough. Love gives, and then love takes away.

[ This is why you get together with other immortals, why he's stayed clear of humans for so long — well, one of the reasons. Either way you never know how long you end up having, so might as well make the most of it while you can. That's just what life is. Here one day, gone tomorrow.

Right. He was about to make a shot. Getting back into the game, Spike aims for the harder sink of the two and, as you've probably guessed by now, misses. ]

What do you wanna ask?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]foreverjack
2016-10-17 04:39 pm UTC (link)
[Jack would say Spike's been lucky in having other immortals around. The only one he knew before ending up here abandoned him on a space station thousands of years out of his own time and then wanted nothing to do with him for over a century.

...Which may have something to do with how long it's taken him to get used to the idea of Spike and Drusilla being together so long!

He watches Spike take the shot, and wonders briefly if he chose the more difficult shot deliberately for the sake of making another confession. Not that it makes much difference anyway. He grins, and goes for the obvious.]
Ianto. Seems only fair!

[ It probably helps that vampires are more common than you'd think. He's not exactly lacking choices, if he wanted to hook up with someone else. As for the shot, he might've done it to miss deliberately or he just wanted a challenge or maybe two things can be true. ]

Don't know what I want, but I know how to get it. [ He shrugs. Ianto is a weird thing to talk about, because Spike feels more than he thinks and that makes it difficult to explain when all you have is lyrics. ] I just wanna be a good boy, I don't wanna be bad.
