Okay, that would be difficult to resist even without the verbal invitation and he wastes no more time dilly-dallying, a pleasurable tingle running down his dead nerves as he bows his head to dig in, eyes already half-closed in preparation for what will be the best meal he's had since he was souled-

-and in that moment the barrier kicks in, pushing him back a good two feet. Too much excitement there, buddy. Can't get so worked up over your food.

"Sonnovabitch!"

He hadn't forgotten about the black band - hard to, really, seeing how prominently Spike's displaying it - but he hadn't reckoned on it actually being a problem here, considering he wasn't asking Spike to actually bite him, just suck up a bit of already spilled blood. Apparently, though, he was underestimating just how tasty a meal he is.

He yelps as he's pushed away from Spike and staggers back, almost tripping over his coat before he manages to catch his balance. "Oh, for fuck's sake!" he yells up at the sky, as if the AIs are gods residing up there in the heavens, as if they can hear him. (Maybe they can.) "I was trying to be nice! Can't you just let things work for us, just once???"

This sucks so hard and he really can't wait to be done with it. Getting involved in this whole blue band business was for Ianto's sake initially but damn if he isn't curious what else it'll make possible. He wasn't the only one who enjoyed that bite in the darkness, a life time ago. As he recalls, Jack had his share of reluctant fun too.

"Fuck..." he groans, jaw set, forcing himself out of game face. Can't give them the satisfaction. It's hard though, more difficult than he's willing to let on.

"It's fine... those assholes aren't worth the trouble."

Jack definitely had his share of fun that night and being reminded of that now means he's just starting to realise himself what else might be got out of a three-way blue band contract, other than just being able to fuck Ianto again. It makes it even harder to cool down in the face of being thwarted by the damn wardens, but if Spike can manage it, so can he.

He grits his teeth and scoops up his dropped shirt and wraps it round his bloodied arm as he'd originally intended, though it's mostly stopped bleeding anyway now.

"I'm sorry," he says, turning his glare up at the sky into a rueful smile for Spike. "That really wasn't meant as a taunt of what you can't have."

"Only fair, I guess."

His tone is still strained but he's trying. Believe it or not, but he can muster up an iron will when he needs to and these last couple of days he's really needed to. Groaning he straightens back up, gives his shredded arm a tired look before shaking the tingles out. It's fine. It'll be fine. So glad he left the coat at home.

"Should probably talk about that, huh?"

One eyebrow quirks faintly at that, but he doesn't follow it up, merely giving Spike's own arm a cursory look to make sure he's going to be okay too before nodding wryly.

"I guess we should." He picks up his coat but the sleeve is in shreds and it's not worth saving; he's sure he can get another from the shops in The Row in the morning. That's where it came from in the first place, after all. He chucks it back down on the ground, and turns back to Spike. Suddenly, feeling on the same side as Spike against the raptors and the AIs, talking to him doesn't seem so hard.

"You're really up for getting a blue band for all three of us?"

He hesitates on the answer, not for long but certainly long enough to show that he's not taking this lightly in any way. It's a big, serious, messed up deal and if he'd had his way he would've cut and run when Ianto first called him. As it happens, he couldn't and here they are now.

"Seemed like the only option that made any sense." He shrugs. "Besides... it would make things easier, don't you think? Next time those mistletoe wankers come around."

Yeah, he's been thinking about that and although he's not exactly willing to offer himself up from the get go, it seems inevitable that something will happen. After all, he's felt Jack's erection against his hip more times than Ianto's and wow that's a sentence he never would've guessed would exist in his skull.

For a moment, Jack's other eyebrow goes up to join the first, then an oddly vulnerable look comes onto his face. "You really would be okay with - well, with actually consumating this between us as well as with him? I mean, I mostly thought it'd have to be just - you know - sharing him between us!" That's about the best he's been able to let himself hope for. Half of Ianto.

As for the erection business - well. Jack does tend to let himself get over-excited more than Ianto does. And he's had more reasons than Ianto for getting excited from the get-go here - the instinctive attraction due to Spike looking like John, at the start, and then the excitement of him being a vampire, before the attraction to the man who's actually Spike started to take over.

This is, perhaps, admitting to more than he's ready to admit but they're out here and they're talking and his nerves are still buzzing with adrenaline from the raptor fight. What does he really have left to lose? It's all so messed up anyway.

"Don't get ahead of yourself." he snorts, defensive, but... "We both know it's just a matter of time. Hell, without the bands? You probably would've gotten there first."

In a different kind of way, of course, and he feels like he needs to clarify this to Jack face to face while he still has the chance and the courage to do so. This is big and they need to know exactly how big.

"I don't cheat. I don't share. This whole... this whole thing is something I don't do." He makes a vague gesture, implying everything that's happened over the last couple of days. "So... go easy on me. I'm trying, here."

It really is more than he dared hope for. Something actually involving the three of them as a unit, rather than a tug of war with Ianto in the middle. He knows as well as Spike does that it will take time to work up to that, but to have it as something to aim for, to work towards - that's fantastic.

He lifts his hands slightly in surrender, smiling ruefully. "I know, I know, I get it." Well, not get it in the personal sense, but he's negotiated with enough people who're new to polyamory by now to at least be aware of how they usually handle it. "It's a lot. It's a lot for us to work through. I'm not expecting miracles right away. It's just... it's not just Ianto, is it? There is something between us too?"

And it's not easy for him to admit to this either. He may be free and easy with his body, but his emotions? Not so much.

He's still not convinced this won't fizzle out before they put it into practice or that it'll go up in flames if they get far enough to get the bands in order, but this is a start. They should at least give it an honest try, shouldn't they? Seems such a waste to do anything else.

"You don't think so? I mean, you haven't thought of it?"

He's a little surprised at that, to be honest, and maybe it's because he's such a creature of emotion that this part is easy for him. He's always relied on gut feeling and big, grand, romantic gestures. It's something he's confident in and realizing that neither Jack nor Ianto are quite as sure of themselves is... weird. Comforting, but weird. At least he got this part mostly covered, even if it is a tangled mess.

Jack lets out a surprised little laugh. "Of course I've thought of it! I know there's an attraction there from my side; I just wasn't sure about from yours. I mean, yeah, at the beginning there was but then you got the chip out and and I stuck a soul in you and... What we have is complicated at best! Doesn't mean I don't want it, though!"

"Jack. I let you kiss me in the graveyard. You really think I do that with everyone I meet?"

He didn't even punch him in the face once it was over! That says a lot, he thinks, about how this might actually work out or at least not be entirely terrible. Not to mention the recent mistletoe bot encounter. Honestly, they're drowning in foreshadowng here.

Jack stares at him for a moment, and realises he's been tarring Spike with his own brush. Just because kissing anyone and everyone is his way, it doesn't mean everyone else does it as a matter of course.

It's a good thing it's very, very dark so hopefully even Spike can't see the faint blush that creeps over his cheeks. "Okay, fair point," he admits, and lets out a still slightly tentative breath. "So... we're good? We can try and put past conflicts behind us and make a fresh start?"

Night vision. Part of the vampire game but if he notices Jack heating up he's not saying anything about it, just nods in agreement.

"We're good. And for what it's worth, I offered to pretend like this whole thing never happened. If anyone should get credit for this, it's Ianto."

This nice moment of reconciliation, whatever the future might bring now that they've cleared out all that old nasty business... good things, he hopes, cautiously optimistic now that he's talked to Jack. Such a nice moment. It'd be a shame if something ruined it.

Something like that gaggle of spooky laughter approaching from round the corner right about now? Jack's just opened his mouth to agree that clearly they have something major they both agree on - how amazing Ianto is - when he hears it and changes what he was going to say abruptly. "How are you with the wasps?" he asks urgently, in an echo of his first question, as he simultaneously draws his gun and bends to pick up his discarded knife.

He hasn't had so much success with the wasps so far, himself.

Well, shit. Should've seen it coming and maybe they're idiots for chatting casually like this in the middle of the darkened street. He tenses instantly, considers putting up a cocky attitude but these are much harder to fight than raptors, especially without a ranged weapon. He still remembers the long hours of being stoned out of his mind, the last time these critters came around. Haven't been that high since Woodstock.

"Not great." He grits his teeth, game face sliding back on instinctively. "Fast lit'le buggers. Not a big area to hit either."

"No," Jack agrees, and he's cursing himself too even as he aims his Webley in the direction of the approaching noise. Even without seeing the creatures, the sound they make has the hair on the back of his neck standing up.

And then they're in view and, damn, they're fast. He fires off a couple of shots and sees one fall to the ground, but the rest are still coming for them, quite a swarm of them. And he's getting low on bullets.

Kind of wishes he would've kept the flaming torch he fashioned at the start of this night. That would've been absolutely perfect now but no, he had to leave that behind. He instinctively falls into a position with his back to Jack, in some feeble attempt to at least sort of look out for each other once the wasps come a-swarming.

He gets a couple of punches out, but only manages to barely graze one of the wasps. This is... this is really bad. If it was just him he'd bolt right about now but abandoning Jack after that talk seems like a shit idea even to him and so he stays put long enough for the inevitable to happen.

"Sh- fuck!"

A flaming torch would have been an excellent idea, but unfortunately, Jack didn't think of it, so he's left with standing back to back with Spike trying to pick off a swarm of giant, laughing wasps in the dark. This really isn't going to go well. On his own, he too probably would have made a run for it, but not with Spike there. Spike has always got his testosterone pumping anyway so he doesn't want to lose face, and now - now they finally seem to be getting along - he doesn't want to leave Spike to get hurt.

Two more shots (and one dead wasp) and he has to pause and look down to reload, but there's no time because the wasps are on them. He hefts his knife, feeling that perhaps a baseball bat might be more appropriate in this instance, and hears Spike curse behind him.

"You all right?" he asks sharply, swinging the knife as if it is indeed a bat and actually managing to slash a couple of wasps, who limp away, injured.

His initial instinct is to shake it off and respond with something cocky and nonchalant - of course he's fine, it'll take more than a lit'le wasp to bring him down - but the venom works fast and before he knows it it's prickling over his skin. He has his back to Jack. He has his back to Jack.

"Fine." he spits out, turning swiftly, eyes locking on Jack with great apprehension as if he's just waiting for him to pull out a stake and solve this whole conundrum for good. He doesn't have enough bodily functions for sweating but he can still feel it crawl over his skin, making him scratch at it like a junkie looking for a fix.

It's obvious Spike's been stung but Jack doesn't know the stings have any effect other than normal venom, which he assumes probably isn't so effective on an undead creature anyway. So it's a moment, as he continues to slash at the wasps, before he realises that Spike has turned and is staring at him. He glances round quickly, turns back to stab an approaching wasp, and then looks round again, puzzled and alarmed by the way Spike's staring at him.

"What?" he demands, and then ouch, he knows he's been stung too. "Come on," he urges, grabbing Spike's arm to at least draw him back againt the wall, so he'll have something at his back even if it's not Spike.

An odd, unexpected giggle bubbles up inside him, rather freaking him out.

"Don't touch me!" he snarls, all fangs and feral yellow eyes, violently pulling himself free of Jack and taking a step back. Wasps don't seem to be the problem right now but rather that he's out here in the dark with a man who's doomed him to eternal torture, who would probably have been just as happy to kill him and who now has even more reason to do it.

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" he continues, voice tight. "Get me out here in the dark... no one would be the wiser, would they?"

Jack stares at him, frustrated and increasingly bewildered. "What?" he demands again, and then sighs, moving back to the wall himself, at least, even if he can't convince Spike to follow him. He swats at a wasp and giggles again, for no apparent reason, which is equally bewildering and worrying. What the fuck is going on?

"Spike, get out of there," he says urgently, watching the giant wasps hovering and darting around Spike's head. They're coming for him again, too, and he instinctively throws up an arm to ward them off, forgetting that it's not covered with thick wool as it usually is but unhelpfully bare. He feels another sting and gasps as he feels the venom go through him. "I'm trying to stop you getting killed!" he gasps, his own skin prickling much like Spike's is, and even as he says it he abruptly he finds himself wondering why he's trying to help this man. Let Spike get himself killed. Who knows, it might stick? And then his problem would be solved.

"I'm dead already, you moron!"

His voice cracks a bit from the strain of keeping his attention on both the wasps and Jack and where he previously felt about as safe as he ever was fighting back to back with Angelus, he's now very exposed. He can't stay here. There's no reason for him to stay here.

"You're not trying to stop me from getting killed, you want me to lower my guard! That's what you do, isn't it? I'm not falling for that!"

He starts to back away, swatting at the wasps as he goes.
