Yeah, okay, he deserves this. Deserves a lot worse too and normally he'd shrug and be on his merry way. Normally. If he seems uncharacteristically nervous, it's because he is. Not because of the raptors, of course not, but this. Talking to her. Talking to a friend of the guy he's sort of getting involved with, knowing fully well he's the last person on this or any other planet they'd want around.

"Listen-" Fuck. Fuck fuck how do people do this, how can it be so bloody complicated? "-I know this isn't the time for it, but before you go all defensive on me... it was never my intention to make a mess of things. Alright?"

Martha lifts an eyebrow. He really wants to do this now? She's almost tempted to make him clarify. But seeing how nervous he already is, she relents, enough to at least acknowledge what he's talking about.

"People make messes all the time. Rarely do they intend for it to actually be a mess."

She shrugs.

"You're all adults, so I'm certain you can figure out a solution."

If I was trying to kill you you'd be dead is what he wants to say but that's not helpful in their situation and so he bites it back. Play nice. It's hard and it goes against everything he stands for but goddamn he has so little left here and he doesn't want to risk fucking that up too just because he can't be a decent semi-human being.
