DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[ Not bad. Haruka quirks an eyebrow to herself but says nothing for a while.

Then: ]
That's good.

[ And all of a sudden her thrust is much faster. ]

[ much faster than leia's able to counter, even with jedi reflexes. leia's quick, but she's also not the best with a sword and hasn't had a lot of practice consciously using abilities she now knows she's in possession of. ]

Good thing these aren't real blades.

That wouldn't be much of a sport. [ Haruka returns to a ready position. ]

And yet, [ she swings the foam sword in a low arc ] here we are. Playing with toys, because we can't be trusted with the real thing.

We should protest. [ Parry! ]

[ she parries right on back, reaching down to grab a handful of skirts with her free hand. ]

I doubt that would accomplish anything. They'd probably saddle us with one of those ridiculous punishments for causing an "unnecessary" scene.

I would hate to do anything unnecessary. [ Says the woman fencing with an even faker sword than usual. ]

[ too bad nobody whose skill set was forging weapons has been brought into their midst. ]

Might be worth the headache it would give them. Always was a fan of scuffing up armor for the sole purpose of annoying the one wearing it.

You've got a bad personality. [ But from the way Haruka smiles when she says it, it's a compliment.

A compliment twinned with a thrust that dips low at the last second, starting at shoulder level and ending around mid-torso, but. ]

[ that's a compliment she'll gladly take, adding: ] Wouldn't be in this place if I didn't.

[ leia has to drop the hold she has on her skirts to dodge that, spinning around and nearly tripping over the fabric whipping about her ankles in the process. ]

[ This is the part where Haruka would say "touche". If they weren't fencing, where it might be taken the wrong way.

As is, that sword is waiting for her to come out of the spin. Can you block this? ]
