DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

I do like Chinese. [Oh, she hasn't forgotten. Is it starting to sound like a date instead of a gift to a friend? Yes, yes it is. She's trying not to get ahead of herself though. It's easy to do. She's always been grabbing the moment when she can, because she never knows when it's going to slip away. But that approach hasn't always worked so well with Reid. It can push him away.]

[ Maybe it is a date. A pseudo-date, at the very least. He misses going on dates with her and that incredibly brief and fruitless romance with Leia kind of put all that into perspective again, like an amuse-bouche to clear the bad taste from the breakup out of his mouth. Maybe he won't bring her flowers but there's a good chance he'll follow her to her door. ]

Maybe... soon? Not tomorrow, but the day after? [ Solid plans are good plans. ]

We have. Feels like I've known you for a lifetime instead of not even a year. [And without even nodding to the 7:1 elephant in the room it has been like a lifetime. Her life divided up in before her parents died and the world fell to her life as an X-Man to her life in the prison. She'd been through the worst of the transition before she even met Reid. She can only imagine what he would have thought of her in those early days. Just another monster to profile maybe. Or that could be her own insecurities with her past choices talking.]

Right? I can't believe I've only been here a little more than six months.

[ She's not entirely correct with him profiling her as a monster, but it would be a different assessment for sure. They got lucky. He came into the dome at just the right time, under the right circumstances. If he'd arrived fresh off Maeve's death he wouldn't have been open to any romance at all and if she and Tyki had been in a better place then nothing would've happened.

He winds his arm a little snugger around her. This is nice. ]
