DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

An honest one. [He can obviously sympathize with not wanting to dress up.] Are you at least having fun?

Sure. I mean it's not exactly my thing and it's not even historically accurate. [nerd alert] But it's always interesting to see how the wardens interpret these things. You?

[Historically accurate? Sam do you secretly like this sort of thing?] I am always impressed with their theme selection. I'm not quite sure where they get their ideas for these sorts of thing.

[Hush, you!] They're probably studying us and our histories. Why they use that for parties, I have no idea.

Well I'd rather it be used for parties than for something more devious. At least the parties are enjoyable, if strange.

Are you sure the parties aren't devious? [There's a little smile. He's not really trying to freak you out. But seriously, there could be an ulterior motive here.]

You suspect there's danger lurking beneath the octopus drawings and themed food?

Maybe not, but it could be to distract us from something.

What sort of something?

I don't know. This is wild conspiracy speculating.

My favorite kind of speculating. Although it's true, I wouldn't be surprised if they use these constant activities to keep us distracted.

If not for something in the moment then just to keep us from working on anything consistently.

There's a sobering thought although I wouldn't be particularly surprised by it.

That would be the investigative team's motto.

I'll order us t-shirts.

[Make Sam's plaid.] I think the lack of t-shirt is probably all that's been holding us back so far.
