DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

That's not what I meant.

[ but she doesn't elaborate. now wasn't the time or place to touch upon how deep she's dug her heels into something she doesn't have much of a real understanding for. though really, how far off was she from knowing what luke did? it wasn't like he had much guidance, either. guesswork was really their best bet, and she'd be doing just as much of it back home, though she'll fully admit that prison life has pushed her to explore this part of herself more readily than she was willing to before. ]

[ It's not like he can argue when he has flowers on his head. He could always try, is tempted to if only because the longer he stops to think about this place the more anxious and uneasy he feels, but half that anxiety is knowing how long she'd been here alone. And given how little relaxing she ever did back where they both needed to be, he can't bring himself to try making her stop. ]

[ said slyly as she tugs him the rest of the way. they're on the edge of the dance floor, at the least, and she guides his hands to their proper resting spots on her waist. hers come up to rest on his shoulders, and since she has no idea what his range of dancing involves, so she won' try to get him to do anything fancier than just swaying to the music. ]

Don't worry; nobody's going to care that you're wearing flowers. Half these people don't even know who you are.

In case you haven't noticed, this isn't exactly my kind of party. Those who do know me [ from those force-forsaken films or otherwise ] don't care who I'm dancing with. Relax. [ her hands come up to frame the sides of his neck for a moment. ] Madine's not going to come waltzing out from behind a tent. Here, it's just you and me. ...and Ton Phanan, but thankfully we both outrank him and he doesn't have a say.

She glowers at him sourly for using his height advantage against her, and with her hand still stretched out towards him, she's tempted to swat him with it.

But she doesn't, instead reaching for one of the hands on her waist with the intent of guiding him through a simple box step.

"Look down at my feet. Watch what I'm doing. One... two... three." She repeats the steps, leading him through them slowly. "See?"

"I can hardly see your feet."

It's a mild complaint, because that outfit is about ninety percent skirts, but he can tell what she's doing. Enough that he follows along after a second, and manages to not step on her toes. This isn't the strangest thing he's worn in his life, or the most complicated thing he's ever done, and the more he goes through the movements the more confident he is that he won't screw up spectacularly.

But she removes her hand from his shoulder anyway, reaching down to grab a handful of skirts and haul them up high enough for him to see her feet. She moves gracefully and fluidly through the steps, counting off every so often when he falls out of step. They're out of sync with the music, but he's trying. Leia would do these slow, easy steps to the loudest, most obnoxious baka rock, as long as he kept trying.

Baka rock would've been an interesting addition to whatever this party is, but Gamorrean music was never Han's style. This is barely Han's style, but he does better when he thinks of it like flying. Dodging her toes like he's dodging asteroids, swooping movements side to side.

"I think you've used that line on me before, sweetheart." It's a good line, he likes it.

She could, but why would she want to? He's just barely managing to miss stomping on her toes every tenth or twelfth step; she's not about to outright disrupt what balance and rhythm he's found in the dance by thwacking him in the arm. Light banter is preferable — and much more them.
