229 - Heatwave mingle
[ It's a sweltering hot day under the sea! Luckily the wardens have provided the necessary means to keep cool: whether you're sunbathing at the beach, sniping your fellow inmates with a fully loaded super soaker or just cooling off under a tree with a cold treat, this is the place to do it! ]

(( ooc: Mingle away! You are of course encouraged to make your own posts and mingles for this event, should you want to! Event information can be found over HERE! ))

[Greatest fear had been done. It wasn't fun.]

It's kind of last minute. But we could give it a shot. Even if it's just the two of us, it'll be something.

[Something to keep them busy and distracted from depressing thoughts of trapped-ness.]

Sounds good then.

[ it's something different and has a homey feel to it. ]

Alright. When we leave here, we can grab some stuff on the way back to our place.

[She wasn't hungry just yet, and cooking on a grill in the heat would be miserable. Later in the day should be cooler, if the computers were doing things properly.

She laid back on the blanket.]

Do you think we'll get tan? I don't know if the light down here works like that...

And I'll try to help you with the cooking. [ or maybe just stand around.

good question. everything was different here. she shakes her head. ]

I don't know. But if we don't tan, then fake tanning must be expensive.

[Haha, right. Cooking. Piper just chuckled a little.]

We don't pay for anything, but fake tans look too orange anyway.

True. People go overboard.
[ she chuckles. ]
That reminds me. I need to get a job. I miss the column. Anything to make myself feel useful.

[So much change in three years. Going from being something of a freeloader to wanting to help and contribute and feeling useful. Or at least, admitting that she wanted to. Looking back, Piper sometimes wondered just how much of each of their attitudes towards each other had just been a symptom of not listening and not sharing.]

Hm.

[She propped herself up on her elbows.]

Why not start your own column here?

[ becoming a charmed one, changed all of them in more ways than one. in the beginning, phoebe was the last halliwell to be perceived as the one to give 'advice' or even have a sense of future. but now, things were different, she grew up, dealt with her demons (cole), and is looking to find comfort in work. helping people always made her feel good and that's her purpose, what she was born to do. so when piper suggest starting her own column, her eyes widen. why hadn't she thought of that herself? ]

Where do I even begin? It's a great idea and I would love to write again and help people with their problems. I just - I don't know how to get started here. [ she pauses. ]

You have a restaurant, how did you start it?

For me, I asked the Wardens because it involved getting set up and equipment and everything. And they basically said, 'Nothing from scratch, but you can take over one of the existing ones'. So, I renovated a little.

[Not having it perfect bothered her a little, but she was dealing.]

I figure, the longer I run it while I'm stuck here, the more I can eventually do with it.

Though, for you, I would say you could do a newsletter that goes through the post office they have here. I think you can print stuff in the computer lab.

Or, the Wardens might even give you something if you ask them for it. Like your own personal computer and printer set-up, and a little bot to distribute them for you instead of going through the post office.

[Piper had gotten enough mailers and things through there, and remembered that the welcome baskets were sent through there, too, so it would make sense to start there, and maybe work up.]

Now, normally, I'd expect you to freak the moment they said, 'Nothing from scratch'. But, it's good to have something familiar here.[ She gives her a small nudge, knowing that it bothered her sister to not be able to do what she wanted. ]
I'll try that then, I just need to get it started. The Bay Mirror already had a small public that sent anonymous letters in, but starting fresh does seem exciting.

[ but terrifying because she didn't necessarily have the same public. ]

Oh... I definitely cook from scratch. But, yeah. I've done what I could to personalize it within the limits. Apparently, I can do more renovating when I earn more 'rehab points'. [She shrugged, making an 'ew' face.]

Yeah. I mean, we could do a couple of ghost letters or something to start with. And maybe you could get some old copies of your column from home to share out as examples and maybe pique some interest. I've heard that you can ask for some stuff from home.

[The planning wheels were turning now.]

Really? Rehab points? Pff!

[ she rolled her eyes then smiles, shaking her head from side to side. ]

I didn't know I could even ask for that. You think they'd set some rules though? Like they did with you in a way?

Yeah, I know, right?

[Piper chuckled with her sister.]

They might. But it doesn't hurt to ask. If you can get help from them with delivery and printing, it would be worth it. Plus, you'd be doing a "service to the community". [Appropriately mocking voice there.] It might earn you extra 'points'. [She laughed a little.]
