day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

[Rebekah likes social events -- or on principle she does anyways. Still, all things considered she had almost not come at, still a little in awkward mode from the events of the night before with Matt. But moping around her apartment isn't going to do her any good, and she doesn't want to spend another day cleaning it either.

So she shoes up, bringing the blackberry pie Rogue baked for her because she had never gotten around to telling Matt about it before and she's not exactly any sort of cook herself. Once she's dropped it off somewhere she'll be wandering around, hoping to at least spot some familiar faces around.]

[ nikola, on the other hand, doesn't care much for them. oh, it's true that he used to attend his fair share of social events, bumping elbows with the social elite, a variety of politians, bankers, and even nobility. he'd been friends with jj astor before the man went down with the titanic, and had frequented a number of get togethers as a favor and courtesy to one of his most prominent financial backers. but, in the decades following the death he faked (the death helen faked for him), he hasn't really seen the need to put himself in the middle of the public eye. especially when you're supposed to be dead and are trying not to bring unnecessary attention to oneself.

he's only here to keep an eye on helen, to be completely honest. he's been concerned about her state of being since he got the truth of her temporal origins out of her, having seen her at her worst on more than one occasion. rebekah only gets approached out of [a] boredom, and [b] because he's seen the little blonde fluttering about the woman in question. ]

Blueberry? [ he knows it's blackberry, but deliberately stating a wrong assumption so the floor's opened up for someone to correct you is one of the oldest conversation starter tricks in the book. ]

[The Mikaelsons have always made a point of mingling with the best of the best, of making a presence in whatever town they settled in -- no matter how short or long that settlement might be (which usually depended on how long it took for their father to catch up with them). Rebekah's mingled with politicians, royalties, famous minds and everything in between.

She raises a brow at the assumptions. Blueberries look different enough that she can't help but assume he's an idiot for the mistake, and the disdain in her voice is probably evident when she speaks.]

Blackberry, actually.

[ idiot is far from the truth when dealing with a man who's IQ is sitting pretty at the top of the spectrum along with the likes of leonard da vinci, far past that of his contemporaries. he makes a noncommittal noise, shrugging as if the flavor doesn't matter to him -- it doesn't. nikola doesn't really eat. he can, but he's too picky in most scenarios to do so. it's all blood and wine for this one, though he wouldn't be caught dead (ha, because he's a vampire anomaly here in being alive vs dead) drinking the former. ]

[To be fair, she doesn't know who she was talking to -- and even if she did it might not change her attitude. Being an Original came with an arrogance of it's own, even if it's not something she indulges in as much as she used to.

She doesn't have to eat either, but she occasionally does so to keep up the illusion in public. She shakes her head.]

[ that's more than he does. nikola will take a bite of something here and there to annoy someone (like he did when he ate a few of elena's fries that one time), but otherwise he's content with letting people believe he's just a picky wine snob. because he is. no sense in lying about that, not when he has a tendency to clean out entire wine cellars when he's hard at work on something, drinking while an idea and a determination to see it through consume him. ]

I suppose that's a little higher on the ladder than something store bought, but seeing as I brought nothing myself, I don't have much room to talk on the matter.

To be completely honest, I'm not here for the food or the people. [ time to stop beating around the bush. helen's warmed up to this girl, and well... when he's actually concerned about helen, he will actually talk to the people she surrounds herself with. it's about the only time he'll hold civil conversations with william outside of a crisis. ]

I'm here to keep an eye on her. [ he nods towards where helen's standing off in the distance. ] Frankly, I'm worried, and she likes you so, hello, I'm Nikola Tesla, and you're... Rebekah, correct?
