Day 222 — Mandatory activity mingle
[ It's a wonderful, stormy day here in Squall Asylum and vacation time is officially over! Your gracious overlords have worked out a light itinerary for you today and they expect you to keep it.

Get in line to pick up your food rations for the day. Eat breakfast if you have time for it, or perhaps you'd rather skip this one time and save yourself the discomfort during the two hours of exercise that follow. Jogging, jumping jacks or perhaps impromptu team sports, whatever you end up doing you bet you'll come out exercised in the end!

Should you not want to participate... well. We have ways to make you join in. Anyone reluctant to get their heart rate up will get a helpful electric prod by one of the bots until they comply. Tough cookies.

Luckily you'll get a chance to wash off that sweat (hope you're not shy, the wash room can get crowded) before it's time for the silent game for an hour, followed by lunch. The day is not over yet though! There's still time for a couple of hours of hard labor tending to the crops, doing laundry or perhaps breaking bricks in the yard. To make sure none of the inmates are broken this is also the time for mandatory physical checkups — bots will guide you to the hospital. No ifs or buts. The violation of personal privacy is for your own good, we promise.

Isn't it nice, being in prison? ]

((ooc: This mingle takes place during all of day 222. A bullet-point for of the itinerary can be found here, where we also encourage you to direct any questions. Event info is here if you need it. ))

[ breakfast ]

[ Data has discovered that, even though he doesn't need to eat, there are still rations allotted to him. The obvious choice he's made is to collect his rations regardless, and then share them with those who do need them. So you may find him claiming his rations, but he won't be eating anything as long as they're here. ]

[ exercise ]

[ There is no purpose to Data exercising, nor is there any hardship. So while he has no real reason to participate in exercise, he also has no reason to refuse - and while the electric prods are not likely to interfere with his functions in any way, the fact that he's already been altered in some still-unknown way makes him none too eager to become subject to them. ]

[ work ]

[ Despite the limitations placed on his strength - or, in fact, specifically to have an opportunity to more accurately gauge them - Data is spending his work time breaking bricks. While he's certainly noting a good deal more difficulty with the restrictions his servomechanisms seem to be subject to, there is still enough strength for him to complete the task easily. Perhaps it's fortunate that the weight of his endoskeletal structure is enough to make up for the lesser force he can currently exert. While he's perfectly alert and attentive, anyone who knows him or even just happens to observe him closely is likely to pick up on the fact that his mind is equally occupied. ]

[ breakfast is easiest for helen to wander around during. she's not eating that much, herself, hoping to aid the less fortunate and able and that requires not being buried in her meal. as it is, she wanders every so often, making sure no one answering to the wardens takes sudden offense at her movements.

eventually, she makes her way over to data's location, taking a seat nearby, well away from any personal space bubble this man might have. ]

Certainly not the best of meals, but necessary all the same.

[ maybe. she's taken notice of how he's not touching his rations and her curiosity has been roused. ]

[ He arches a curious brow at the comment, glancing at his own untouched rations, and gives a slight nod. ]

For the majority of those present, yes. Fortunately, I do not require sustenance; I am collecting my rations for redistribution for those who do.

[ that definitely earns points and she gives an approving smile. ]

Quite the noble and caring cause. It's nice to know there are others with such a thought.

[ she may or may not be planning on doing the same with half of hers.

she's very curious about him. well, she can ask politely and if he declines an answer, that'll be the end of it. ]

May I ask how your body restores energy if you don't require food?

There would be no purpose in my wasting that which I do not require.

[ He tilts his head slightly, and gives a small nod. He doesn't mind the inquiry. ]

I am an android. As such, my power cells continually recharge themselves.

[ there isn't much of a noticeable difference in helen's reaction to that news. if anything, she looks fascinated rather than repulsed or afraid. ]

I would imagine that comes with as many drawbacks as advantages in a place like this. [ makes her wonder how the "power drain" affects him here. ] Regardless, you have a kind heart to do something like this. I was hoping to do something similar.

[ her body requires food; she's just slightly more used to being on a limited diet due to the two wars she lived through and her tendency to forget to eat and sleep when she's overworking herself. ]

[ Fascinated is a reaction Data will gracefully accept; even if it isn't terribly frequent anymore, getting fear or revulsion as a response is far from unheard of for him, and it's never a reaction he enjoys. ]

A statement which holds true for any environment in which I find myself, though the drawbacks here are... quite specialized.

[ And his head tilts back in the other direction, his brows arching as he gives a small frown. ]

There would be nothing for me to gain by keeping that which I do not require under these circumstances. I can eat, and I can taste food, but I do not rely on the nutrients which organic lifeforms do. However... thank you.

[ Can't accept the compliment without analyzing it. ]

Do you not require the rations with which you have been provided?

[ she's seen humans with far less acceptance and outright humanity than non-humans or human-abnormals. she sees no reason to judge data on what he is before she sees who he is. for a moment, she pauses, but then curiosity wins out. ]

Are you experiencing the "power drain" I've heard others mention?

[ it hasn't affected her, unless it's taken away her longevity without her knowing it. ]

I do. However, I am one of the few who excessive amounts of sleeping and eating in stressful situations.

[ her statement is admitting a lot for someone who cares to analyze her words. she's admitting that she tends not to eat or sleep much when she's got a lot on her mind and that she finds this situation stressful in some capacity. ]

[ That's a delicate question; while he hasn't been inclined to widely publicize his situation, it's a direct inquiry, and the information could be relevant to the circumstances in which they have all found themselves. His tendency to share and compare information wins out, and he gives a slight nod. ]

Yes; though my core processing functionality is intact, I am experiencing certain limitations on some of my abilities. I am not yet certain how they have managed to alter my systems so specifically.

[ He tilts his head a bit at her statement, both curious and concerned. ]

I have noted that there seems to be a great deal of variance in how different individuals respond to stressful situations. You are not adversely affected by these decreases in rest and nutrients?

[ data may not be feeling any strain, but seven is. her superior borg strength inaccessible, she's demoted to that which is suited to the human parts of her body. suffice it to say, it is not adequate or up to her personal standards. she's used to having the potential to break a weaker person with little effort, to put it roughly. and at the end of the work shift, she finds herself legitimately sore. it's a new experience, but one she doesn't want to be experiencing.

she finds data after returning the garden tools to their proper place, coming up beside him and resting a hand on his arm. (she's panting a little. how very un-drone like of her.) ]
Perhaps we should not have deactivated my homing beacon. The Borg would be a welcomed reprieve from forced labor.

[ terrible joke, but seriously. at least the collective could fix whatever's wrong with her. ]

[ Concern is the dominant and obvious response as Data turns to her, studying her condition with a tight frown. His own condition seems a secondary concern to hers - both because he isn't capable of feeling physical strain, and because it's his natural inclination to put concern for others before concern for himself, particularly those he cares for. The joke gets a slight, sympathetic quirk of the corner of his mouth, uneasy as it is. ]

I cannot say that I found them to be particularly congenial hosts.

[ The offhand response, however, is not the important matter at hand. ]

Have you been injured?

[ of course he wouldn't, and she shouldn't -- she does not, in all actuality, but when seven's feathers are ruffled and she's struggling to regain control of herself and her situation, she tends to play the borg card. were voyager in possession of an actual counselor instead of a morale officer who means well and a holographic doctor, the behavior would've been recognized as a clear defense mechanism and a way of reaffirming her power over people and things. being borg is power along with knowledge and perfection, and to feel powerful is to feel safe.

seven doesn't feel safe right now. she feels the complete opposite of safe. ]

[ Even if Data isn't properly equipped to pull off a full psychoanalysis of her behavior, their situation speaks for itself, and it is apparent enough that she's far from comfortable with it. He places a hand lightly over hers, nodding with a slight frown. He was hardly pleased that they separated her from the rest of the population. ]

And it would seem that those who do not require the hospital's services are not permitted to enter.

[ Data generally prefers to discuss things in person; the network can't be trusted with any sensitive matter, of course, since its administration and infrastructure is beyond their current knowledge. And here he is, rations in hand but entirely untouched, arching his brows slightly as he turns toward Sam. Certainly he's seen Sam before, but having not had a direct conversation, he gives a slight nod of greeting. ]

A pleasure, Sam. Given your statement, I believe you are likely aware, but I am Data.

Derek Morgan is gone, so Reid, Spencer Reid is taking over as acting head of the Investigative Team. Given the uncertain nature of our situation, that would be a reasonable precaution. If one individual were solely responsible for such information, it would be gone as well were they to become lost in the "dimensional stabilizer."

The term itself is vague in nature, but its name would imply that it is responsible for maintaining the link between our dimensions that makes transporting individuals to the facility possible. In my own reality, incidents of accessing alternate dimensions have been recorded but are generally accidental in nature.

My skepticism on the matter is largely associated with the loss of individuals via this technology. While I do not consider such occurrences to be outside the realm of possibility, I also do not consider it likely that the wardens would be forthcoming about any individuals who had left, either by finding their own means to leave or by being returned to their homes, as this would contradict the sentences we are handed upon arrival.
