Mingle: Event Kick-Off
[ It was mid-morning. The sky was clear and it was a (not so) very blustery day. It was cool but it was always cool. It was neither too warm nor too hot.

Lukewarm.

And that was just how Bak preferred it. Especially since he had in hand his very important, extra special concoction of wonderful forgetfulness on hand! Bak could stand teasing, but even this was getting ridiculous.

Hefting the bag a little higher so it fit snug into the crook between elbow and shoulder, he stepped off into wild world of Marinanova and promptly had to grab onto his hat.

Opps. He always forgot about that step down.

Taking another step, he nearly tripped again, this time on a rock. Frowning, Bak starred at the offending piece of debris and then he kicked it.

And yelped.

And then held his foot, dropping his bag in a near blinding rush of ”Eeeek!” as he dived for the paper bag, watching as with a POOF half of the contents disappeared into the wind, leaving him sneezing and dazed on the ground wondering what the heck had just happened. Clearly, his own formula had been getting the best of him. It happens when one sneaky scientist messes with the formula and Bak spent the better part of the morning putting the final touches of the mixture together.

Heightened emotions indeed.

Bak will rue this day assuming he survived it. ]

[Kitty feels fine and she does the things she tends to do on a regular day: swinging by the Defense Force office to check up on everything; doing a quick, mostly intangible, sweep of sector 6; hitting up the library and hardware sections of the stores to get some ideas for the Advanced Technology class she teaches; and spending some time leaning against a tree as she listens to Portuguese with her headset off and some headphones on. Handy little teaching modules they have in the education center.]

(OOC: I'm up for trying anything. I may give her a strong reaction to your character or just play off yours. If you have a preference just let me know here or find me through my contact info on her journal.)

[Dawn spots Kitty leaning against the tree with her headphones in. Given the awkward (from her end, not Kitty's) of their last encounter, she thinks about taking the long way around from point A to point B. But today she's feeling extra bold in all of her emotions. So maybe she can redeem her own awkward by striking up another conversation with Doctor Reid's girlfriend? Maybe.

She walks over to Kitty, smiles and waves, waiting for the ear buds to come out before speaking.] Music of the not so good? Not so good because if it's good music usually it leads to dancing a jig or general head bopping.

	I guess that depends. Have you met Tyki? [Because she started learning it for him when they were kind of together. Now she's learning it because it's a good exercise. She likes languages. Portuguese. [She says with emphasis since it bears repeating with the tone Kitty just took with her. She'd known that was the right word. But obviously Kitty wasn't into amusing twists on words or witty puns. But really, she didn't mean to offend anyone so she wanted to repeat the right word in a kind of apology for any offense taken.

However, she's never been a fan of being told what to do or who she should and shouldn't hang around or be friends with. Spike, for example. So she furrows her brow and shakes her head.] I can do my own friend making decisions. I've been doing it for awhile and I'm still here, alive and kicking. What's your problem with him though?

[The look Kitty gets is first one of sympathy. Because Dawn is taking this in completely the opposite direction than Kitty probably intended. She remembered when Spike had tried to force himself on Buffy and she's been angry with him for a long while. He'd more than redeemed himself since then though. But with that parallel, her sympathy turns into anger.

Her hands land on her hips and she shakes her head.] Tyki forced you to have sex with him? Does Doctor Reid know? Because that is totally not cool. I can get my sister to hit Tyki... really hard. Like... really hard. [Buffy!punches hurt, okay?]

[Any pretense of hiding annoyance is gone as she tilts her head and gives the other girl a flat expression.] I never said he forced me. I just didn't know part of what was getting him off that night was the half corpse. [Okay, she really has no idea how bad off Cross was at the time or even how much torture went on, but it feels like the thing to say. If he was 100% he wouldn't have stayed locked up, right? So close enough.]

And, no, why would I tell Reid before talking it over with you first? [Sarcasm, always in season.]

Oh. [This is officially disturbing on so many levels. She now knows more about Kitty's sex life than she ever wanted to. Tyki tortures people and he'd always seemed so harmless to her, even enjoyable. Kitty has sex with a guy who tortures people and probably with Doctor Reid too... weirdness but also who is she to judge. She's been attracted to the darker types of people before too. But mostly, it just makes this prison feel a lot less safe and Kitty feel less safe to be around to her. And isn't she still leader of the Defense Force? What kind of organization is the Defense Force really?

She's been quiet for awhile, her nose wrinkled while deep in thought. Really, she isn't sure she believes Kitty. Tyki has never given her that kind of impression and now Kitty is being rude with her. She really hates being talked down to. She's just going to take a healthy step backward from Kitty.] Okay, first... ew. And second you're kind of scary and rude. And third, ew. Oh! And fourth, at least he got you all inspired to get your Portuguese language learning on?

Ohhhh-kay, well I'm sorry I disturbed your Portuguese learning and that I tried to say hi to you at all cause... well... kinda self explanatory. [Buffy was never with anyone while they were torturing people. Buffy's relationships with them are proof that people, even the worst kind of people, are redeemable if they want to be. Even Tyki -- if what Kitty says about him is true.

She's just gonna walk away without a goodbye because she doesn't feel like being talked to like that anymore. She's used to it. But she knows when to cut her losses, back off and go annoy someone else. Maybe she'll find Tyki and ask him about all of this.]

[Well, that's kind of what pissed Kitty off, that he was still doing those things when they were together. That she believed she saw more in him, and he disappointed her twice. She'd really started thinking that maybe he'd change if it was for her. But then it really just made her angry at herself for trusting a man she knew better than to trust. Tyki is just the scorpion in the story. Of course he's going to sting. The turtle—Kitty—knew better all along and still sank because of it.]

I'll try to fill the rest of my day without you somehow. [Headphones back on and head turned away. Her annoyance is still up at 11 for some reason. It makes enough sense to her now, but it won't later. Still, it might be a mercy it's only annoyance. Reliving the hurt she went through with Tyki, only magnified, is definitely no good.]

[Leaning back.] I started learning it awhile ago [when she was with Tyki and it was a cute thing.] and I don't like leaving things half done. [Not that she had learned half the language, but if she had then she would have known better about what was happening that night.]

It was for my cure. [He shrugs as if it's no big thing that they very obviously didn't pan out.] Before I was told there's no way to change me back, I went pretty much everywhere looking. Learning a few dead languages was nothing compared to the possibility of being human again. Neither was working for corrupt leaders who tried to manipulate me into doing their bidding.

...I guess I don't like doing things halfway either. But after last time with Sasha [when he rampaged and hurt people and generally could have done something truly horrible... he shudders at the memory.] I'm not taking any more chances.
