[The Blood Shack has been redecorated for the evening. The lighting is red and the decor is very Moulin Rouge. The bar has had a facelift of sorts and in the spirit of a costume party is featuring 'candy' flavored shots such as Skittles, Sweet tarts, Caramel Apples, Nerds and Tootsie Rolls. All other 'normal' drinks are available at the bar as well as a selection of synthetic blood. The decor continues in the seating arrangements. The entire room, including the dance floor, stage and platform where Eric's throne sits is bathed in red light. Lording over the entire affair is Eric, dressed as a Viking king. Instead of the helm, he's got a crown made of gold foil and cardboard. His weapons are the plastic sort and he's opted to go bare chested rather than attempting to make any sort of chain mail. He has a faux polar bear throw across his shoulders and is wearing a long, blond wig as well as a fake beard.

Enjoy, mingle and come as you want to be.]

Too often for my taste. [Don't mind him, he hates this place -- most things about it anyway, he amends as his eyes flick towards her.]

[One of the logs in the fire rolls out of place, so Zelgadis sheds his towel so he can reach in bare-handed and put it back into place. It's hot enough to bother him a little, but it's not like his skin can burn, so while he's in there he arranges a few other logs into a pyramid for efficiency's sake. He's made a lot of fires in his day, and it does warm the rest of him up pretty well.]

Hm? [He looks over at her, and then forces himself not to avert his eyes but focus only on her face.] It's only been burning a few minutes, in another twenty or so it would be hot enough to sting. But right now, it's just really warm.

See? [He holds his hand out, palm up, so she can touch it. Stone is a great thermal conductor, and well insulated, so his skin is very warm but nowhere close to hot enough to hurt even human skin.]

I figured that out for the first time when I picked up a boiling kettle with my bare hand and didn't even notice it until the entire room was staring at me.

[With his hand so warm he can't feel much of her touching him, which is actually a tiny relief because he's feeling quite easily distractable about now. But he notices how she tries to soak up the heat, and distractions or not, he's not going to just let her be cold. And the best he can do...]

Hang on. [He moves his hand from hers, and stands up to bend over the fire, the flames licking over his bare chest and arms. Just a few seconds ought to have him well heated; stone is great at retaining heat.]

[He sits back down and reaches over to gently tug at her towel.] Come here. [He's red now from more than just the heat, but priorities. This is only because she's cold, not because he's been thinking about doing it since they met up at the party...]

[She almost makes a protest when he goes to the length of bending over fire to heat up, but she's actually selfishly happy because it's not something she can't say she wasn't thinking about.

She crawls closer, tentatively shifting against him and moving the towel away so that their bodies can rest against each other. She has a thought about crawling into his lap, but for the time being just leans against him with a soft sigh of contentment and her eyes closing, her skin soaking up the warmth of his.] Thank you. I didn't think I'd... be this cold. Swimming might've not be the best idea, huh.

[His arms slide around her -- warmth, just for warmth, even if he's maybe smiling just a little as she settles -- he and tries not to think about her skin on his in instead just chuckle a bit at her words.] It's fine. You didn't know there'd be a problem with the lights.

[He pauses, thinking about his abilities and how when he'd first arrived he'd been so tired using them, and Raven uses hers nonstop, and now she's not feeling well...] If -- [he hesitates again, but goes on despite the thread of worry that flits through his head] If it's difficult to keep up with looking like this, you don't have to. I mean, I don't mind either way, but... [he's not going to jump back in horror if her skin is blue, or something.]

[His arms around her are soothing, the warmth soaking in through chilled skin and much like a cat she nestles against him. She listens to him speak with her head tucked beneath his chin, looking off to the side at what he says to consider it. And then she shifts, sliding into his lap and combing back wet blond hair.

This is a comfortable, safe moment. Her skin morphs in its usual ripple of almost-scales, a surprising relief that leaves her still very much undressed but less visibly so, thanks to the scaley covering across her entire body.] Thanks. This feels... better.

[He looks down at her, fascinated by the change each time he sees it, warmth touching his expression. Perhaps it was somewhat selfish, his offer just then. He finds this form intriguing, and has a very real need to repay her for accepting his unusual form with all its many flaws. The way she leaned so effortlessly against his uncomfortable skin when he asked her to, it's a gift so few people have ever given him.]

[But it's not repayment on his mind when he presses a soft kiss to her temple, it's just that he's wanted to do it all night and between her curled in his arms and that she trusts him enough to revert -- he just wanted to.]

Yeah. [Not that he knows what it's like to be able to hide, exactly, but he can easily picture what it would be like if he could. Always wondering if they'd react the same to him if he let his real self show, afraid he'd slip up and they'd find out and he'd have to see that horrified shock.]

I told you that you don't have to be anything else with me. I meant it. [It's the absolute least he can do.] ...Unless you want to. [He does get why she'd want to be blonde around him, out of habit or any number of reasons.]

And if anyone says anything other than how pretty you are, they'd better be invulnerable to rock-punchings, fire, and lightning. [A very Lina-like thing to say, especially for one typically even-tempered about little personal slights, but whatever. They'd deserve it.]

[For all the talk she gives him about being who he is, and that they both should be accepted for who they are and not be ashamed of it... she does have a slight failing in applying the same feelings towards herself even still. There was never much support her way, only her own feelings of what should be right-- but wasn't necessarily, in other people's eyes. So, even having him having said that, she still felt like it would be "better" to be her blond self. The prettier version of herself, the more appealing one.

And yet here she is, smiling against him a touch flattered, embarrassed in a good way.] Zel... Just, I just want to know - and you don't have to answer, but. What way do you like me better? [Is it a weird question to ask? Not which way do you think I should feel comfortable, which way would be better-- what way do you like.]

Better? [He's -- thrown by that, and doesn't bother hiding it. They're both her, how could one be better than the other... but on some level, he understands her question. And on some level it's just not worth trying to figure out what she wants to hear, she's already cuddled close and in his lap for the gods' sake, so he's feeling confident enough to just talk without overthinking, a rare move for someone so cerebral and careful.]

Your blonde form is more what I'm used to, maybe, and it would be lying to say I didn't notice how you look in that form. But -- well, you're just as noticeable like this, and you don't get to show it to a lot of people so it's... special. [His tone softens just then, yes the good kind of special.]

So, I guess, this form. If I had to pick. But that doesn't mean... I don't want you to think you have to be one or the other.

[Well, if he's gonna get slapped and kicked out at least he's dry enough to get home without catching a cold.]

Special. [She likes that it feels intimate still, and even if one day it becomes okay to be the way she is publicly, he'll still be one of the first people she was comfortable around.]

I feel like when I'm... the other way, the attention I'm grabbing is on purpose. Like this, it's usually just unwanted. [It's just a way of control, really.]

I feel more like me like this. Not hiding.

I wish I could tell you to just stay like this if that's what you like, but -- I know how that sounds when people say it to me, or tell me to take my mask off. Easy to say when they don't have to live with it.

I can sit here like this with you right now, but in public I don't know if I could show my face so easily. So I won't ask you to, not for my sake or anyone else's but yours. [And he's sort of assuming he'll get the same courtesy. It is a constant nagging source of irritation when people who come to know him start insisting that he should feel more comfortable just because they decide he should.]

[His chest tightens up, not just because he's glad that she feels this way, but out of his own awareness that right now he truly needed her, and an inkling of fear that his feelings for Raven might be influenced by that. He would never want to be this close to someone without it being genuine, but he's suddenly aware of how quickly things moved and how he's never that quick to trust so he can't help but consider that there's another reason for it.]

[The camaraderie, kinship, understanding, whatever one calls it that he feels for her is real, he wants to believe, and there's no question that the way she's so easy and encouraging is a fantastic ego-boost. But what if the intensity of this forming bond is being strengthened not by their connection, but because of Zelgadis' mess with Saber?]

[One thing he's absolutely sure of: Raven doesn't deserve to be used. He would never forgive himself. But how could he tell?]

[It's... it can't be entirely false. It just can't. He never connects to people this easily, and doesn't that mean something? So he keeps her close and tries to ignore the inkling worry.]
