[The Blood Shack has been redecorated for the evening. The lighting is red and the decor is very Moulin Rouge. The bar has had a facelift of sorts and in the spirit of a costume party is featuring 'candy' flavored shots such as Skittles, Sweet tarts, Caramel Apples, Nerds and Tootsie Rolls. All other 'normal' drinks are available at the bar as well as a selection of synthetic blood. The decor continues in the seating arrangements. The entire room, including the dance floor, stage and platform where Eric's throne sits is bathed in red light. Lording over the entire affair is Eric, dressed as a Viking king. Instead of the helm, he's got a crown made of gold foil and cardboard. His weapons are the plastic sort and he's opted to go bare chested rather than attempting to make any sort of chain mail. He has a faux polar bear throw across his shoulders and is wearing a long, blond wig as well as a fake beard.

I was involved with Jessica's maker for a while. [ she fiddles with the blue band on her wrist, semi-hidden by the purple lace she has wrapped around it. the band ties her to the one vampire she knows bill would rather her not be bound to, especially not in that way. ] You're around people who think far too loudly all your life and you meet someone whose mind is completely silent, and you sort of just... jump in head first without really thinkin' about what you're doin', because it's so nice to not listen in on someone's thoughts for once.

[ a beat, and then in case caroline doesn't know: ] I'm telepathic. Probably should've said that first.

Really? That's so great. I mean, she never really got to-- [ waves it off. ] Not my story to tell, but I'm glad she's gettin' the opportunity to do something normal for once and just be a girl. Do girl things. Normal teenage girl things.

[ caroline's eyes go to the wrist band, her brow furrowing.] Did he give you that? [ she points to the blue wrist band before she glances back up. ] So you were with a vampire? I mean, I guess that must be nice, not to have to listen but at the same time, I'd totally kill to know what the guys I've dated were thinking.

[caroline nods.] Oh, I know, Elena told me about it.

Yeah, she told me! I'm glad she can do it here, at least.

Bill? [ in her mind's eye, she sees a whirlwind of possibilities: bill being here instead of eric and somehow getting over what he did, reconciling and going to the wardens together in order to pick up where they left off vs starting something new with eric. she pushes the what ifs aside. ] Oh, no, Bill and I are way over. This is... [ caroline's what, seventeen? eighteen? oh boy. ] A license I got with Eric, actually. [ sex license that they surprisingly haven't made good use of yet. ]

You'd think that, but once you start hearin' what they're really thinkin' about you, and how their minds are on your chest and what they want to do to you later versus what you're talkin' to them about, it loses it's appeal fast. [ and ruined more dates than she had fingers to count. ]

Pretty much. Some worse than others. But, I work in a bar back home, so I've heard it all. From the casual passing thought to the downright nasty.

No, not really... Also yes. It's complicated, and I'm still workin' out what it means myself. But, where I'm from, when a vampire proclaims you theirs, other vampires can't touch you without permission from you or the vampire that's claimed you. You violate that, and you're gonna have one angry vampire out for your blood who has the right to extract that vengeance via violation of ancient, unspoken laws or however that works out. [ she will leave out blood bonds for now.

a laugh. ] I could probably sell lines to Saturday Night Live from the things I've heard. Not all of it's bad, though. Some of it's real sad... People have a lot of reasons to drink. It's not always just for fun. [ ...pause, because she realizes all of a sudden she hasn't heard any caroline-sounding thoughts. ] Your drinkin's just for fun, right?
