The fair has come to town! To those of you who have attended a rural county fair, this is pretty much your standard fare. To those of you who haven't, there will be rides, food, games where you can win huge stuffed animal prizes, and also...4 H stuff. Like...cow shows and rabbit shows and horses and talent shows and quilt competitions and...really, name it and it's probably there.

Kate gave him a brief kiss and then smiled. "This close will keep me nice and safe, I think," she said, stepping away and taking his hand again so they could actually walk over and get in line for the ride.

They definitely made the right call by leaving Rocco at home tonight. This was the most like them that they'd been in a while and Kate realized that they really needed it.

They had a lot of things they should still really talk about, but getting out and spending time just the two of them, doing the sort of things they'd done before they'd gone and gotten all settled down, it was big. It was important for them.

"You know, it's too bad these rides aren't longer." Nick was confident he could get a lot more than just making out if they had the time.

It was probably for the best that the rides weren't longer because that would put them at risk of getting arrested and that would definitely not go over well with Jeremy or her parents.

She was kind of hoping that making out on the rides would lead to sex when they got home though. That was something else they hadn't really done lately and that was definitely unlike them. "Consider it foreplay," she said.

	Nick would say it was worth the risk. He tilted his head back with a groan of laughter. "You're going to kill me one of these days." But he was definitely making sure Rocco stayed in the big house tonight. Maybe all of tomorrow. 	Kate laughed. "But what a way to go, right?" This was good. This was them and they needed to get back to their normal after all the recent crap they'd been dealing with. That was definitely more like it. They hadn't gotten time like this is way too long. Weirdly long, considering how hard it had been to keep their hands off each other even just a year ago.

They acted like an old married couple and had only known each other a few years.

Nick eagerly leaned back into Kate and into the kiss, okay with letting the ride completely pass them by.

This was definitely what they needed. A night out with no responsibilities, where they could be silly and do whatever they wanted. Even if that meant being completely irresponsible and making out on a carnival ride.

If it wasn't for the stupid bar across their legs, Kate would totally move onto Nick's lap, but that wasn't going to happen so she had to for being right next to him.

Nick was half tempted to just drag her home the moment the ride ended. If he were a few years younger, he might've actually done it. But he was an adult and could restrain himself better than that, and so kept a sliver of his attention on how close to the end of the ride they were.

Just before they came back into the light, he pulled back and straightened, as if nothing had been happening at all.

Kate straightened her shirt and tried to smooth her hair but it was pretty much a lost cause between the fast rides and the making out. She really should have pulled it back in pigtails again this year. Oh well. If the fair came again next year, she would remember.

As they exited the ride, she reached for Nick's hand. "I love you," she said. It still wasn't something they said a lot, but she felt like it was important to remind him about in a moment like this when things felt right between them.

Nick actually made a point of saying it on his way out the door every day. It wasn't really the same, though. That had just become habit, and it wasn't the same heartfelt way it had always been before. That it was now.

He turned to smile down at her, tugging her over by her hand to kiss the top of her head. "Love you, too."

They were getting a lot of themselves back tonight. "Now what do you say we get some food and you win my giraffe a boyfriend?"

Being observant was about the only use Nick had ever been to the Pack. Of course he'd gotten good at it. And he'd only gotten more so during his last trip home, when Jeremy had started making use of him and his talents.

"Yeah. Me too. It was a good idea." And hers, of course. Nick's date nights tended toward a little more romantic, a little less silly and fun. Maybe that was weird, given that he was pretty silly and fun in his day-to-day.
