Title: Baby's First Non-Religious Multiethnic All-Inclusive Winter Holiday Festival, IV
Challenges: Snape's holiday celebration [info]snape100, Yule [info]lupin100
Word Count: 100
Note: this is the long-awaited Motherless Child holiday fic. It will continue through Twelfth Night unless it gets completely out of hand, in which case, all bets are off.

Severus' cousin and her family had asked for "a real old-fashioned Christmas, with Yule logs and mistletoe and plum pudding!" Now the Snape-Lupins waited in the Broomsticks for the scheduled Floo from London. Remus reached across the table to squeeze Severus' hand while Johnny gummed some zwieback. "It will be fine, love."

Severus snorted. "They're Jewish, not Christian. This will be disaster."

"It won't be that bad. They're - "

"Julie! Stop dragging your feet and come in!"

"I told you, it's Judith now!"

Severus winced. "Just watch," he muttered as Esther, Alan, and their children tumbled into the room.

Word Count: 100
Note: this is the long-awaited Motherless Child holiday fic. It will continue through Twelfth Night unless it gets completely out of hand, in which case, all bets are off.

Those not familiar with Motherless Child and its sequels/prequels need to know that Severus and Remus are married and have adopted a baby werewolf. It is now the holiday season, and an unexpected controversy has arisen as their families descend for Christmas/Hanukkah/Solstice/Yule/Hogmanay/Festivus….

Letter from Severus Snape, to Philip Humeniuk, Vicar of St. Simon Magus Parish, Hogsmeade.

Dear Sir -

No, you may not borrow John for your "living Christmas Yuletide creche." Leaving aside the fact that I am not a Christian and will not be attending your doubtless charming children's service, the arrival of multiple relatives from abroad will make it impossible for either my husband or myself to supervise John during his "star turn."

Perhaps you should consider asking one of the Weasleys. I doubt any of their spawn will turn into a wolf cub on Boxing Day.

S. Snape.

"I knew it." Severus yanked off his new, still-uncomfortable reading glasses. "I haven't changed my mind. Baptizing our son - "

"No, no, it's not that!" Remus held up his hands before Severus could get up a full head of steam. "Father Humeniuk knows better. He's invited Mum and me to services on Christmas Eve but he doesn't expect you or Esther or her family."

"He'd best not," said Severus, curling his lip. His cousins were not Orthodox, but tolerance had its limits. "So what did he want?"

Remus held out a copy of the church bulletin and braced himself.

"So. Have you given any thought to just what we're going to celebrate this year?"

Severus glanced up his grading. "We have a tree, a menorah, and a Yule log. You go to services on Christmas Eve, I supervise a session of underage gambling at the school, and we both eat too much at Minerva's party.

"In short, the usual. Why do you wish a change?"

Remus glanced upstairs. "Severus. We've already made a change. Weighs about a stone per his last - "

Severus laid down his pen. "You've been speaking with the vicar again, haven't you?"

Remus flushed.

Title: Since There's No Place To Go, V
Challenges: dance [info]snape100, "Oh the weather outside is frightful…." [info]lupin100
Word Count: 100
Note: this the end of the de-aged Snape plot that began months ago. He's now an adult with most of his memories, and has reunited with Remus Lupin. They just need to find a place to be alone….

The snowfall continued as the night went on, with the Zabini tea dance the first casualty. The papers, the wireless, the telly and the computer networks - even the experimental World Wide Wizarding Web that had become Hermione Granger's pet project - would call it the Storm of the Century. The Muggles used it as more proof of climate change, while the Wizengamot passed new legislation about private weather manipulation.

The guests in the last room to be rented at the old inn did not know, and did not care. They were too busy relearning the oldest dance of all.

The last room at the Leaky would not be ready for an hour, so they took a seat at one of the booths and watched the snow hiss down through the Floo. There were Muggle hotels, of course, and the Knight Bus, but it would not be the same.

Severus waited until they had been served to speak. "I feel sorry for Blaise. He hates the snow, and he doesn't want to marry yet."

"What about a tea dance? That sounds rather twee." Remus cautiously reached for his hand.

"Not the way Slytherins do it," said Severus. He squeezed back.

"Begging your pardon, sirs, but there's no help for it." The barmaid shook her head. "The Floo is down all over Britain, and the Minister has restricted apparation anywhere north of Wiltshire. The storm - "

"Storm?" Remus glanced toward the fireplace. Snowflakes blew down into the flames and disappeared with a swift, quiet hiss.

"Madam Zabini's winter tea dance. She's looking to marry off her son and wanted snow." The girl gestured helplessly. "The weather witch sneezed, and so - "

"So there's no place to go," Severus finished. He glanced at Remus. "Do you have any rooms left?"

Carolers sang the old songs as they neared the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron. Remus chuckled as two children did their best with the lyrics to "Joy to the World."

"They likely don't appreciate being thought cute. I certainly didn't."

"I never thought you cute. Determined, precocious, disconcerting - "

"It was good to a child for a while, especially around this time. I'd forgotten the anticipation that comes with being young at Christmas." Severus paused before they entered the pub. "But now - "

"I'm glad you're back," said Remus, and kissed him even though they were in public.

The last Christmas carol had been sung. The visitors had gone home, and Remus had fed and changed and bathed his son. Andromeda had gently declined their offer of dinner, and promised to owl Hogwarts so they would know where Severus was.

Now they stood outside her house in the dark winter night. A man, laden with packages from a toy store, hurried past.

"I would have done that," Remus murmured. "There's no better time to be a child than at Christmas. Making it good for Teddy - "

"You still can." Severus squeezed his hand. "We still can."

"Yes."

The couple had Audrey Prince's blessing - that was obvious from the song, and the smiles, and the mere fact the doyenne of the Tories had unbent enough to accept a cup of tea and a few early Christmas cookies from a disowned Pureblood and her werewolf son-in-law.

"It's good to a child," Severus said, eyeing the gifts. "Especially at Christmas. Gran, I - "

"You need not apologize, Severus, unless your - friend - plans to leave his son home on Boxing Day," said Madam Prince. She nodded to Andromeda and Remus. "I trust that meets with your approval?"

Severus, still humming "Once in Royal David's City," and Remus, flushed and smiling, stood in the entryway. Audrey Prince, hat adorned with fwooper plumes, smiled indulgently at them. Clearly the three of them had resolved whatever needed to be resolved.

"Madam Prince! How good to see you!" Narcissa, ever perfect, swept past her sister to air-kiss the elderly woman. "This is my sister and - "

"Of course." Madam Prince nodded to Severus, who produced a small sack from his pocket and unshrank it. "Gifts for young Theodore. It is good to be young, and never better than at Christmas."

"He's a lovely child." Narcissa watched as Andromeda lifted the baby from his crib. She blinked as Teddy's hair turned red, then green, then red again. "Another Metamorphmagus?"

"Oh yes." Andromeda chucked Teddy under the chin. "He imitates everyone - there he goes!" She laughed as Teddy turned as blond as Narcissa. "It's good to have a child about at Christmas, especially this year."

"I'm sure." Narcissa wrapped an arm about her sister's shoulders. "Dromie, I - "

"Andromeda? Narcissa?" A male voice called up the stairs. Another voice, deeper but still young, broke into a Christmas song. "We're back!"

And oh: the series will finish during Christmas week. Thank you all for your patience and kindness - I apologize for not replying to individual comments but wanted you all to know that your words have been balm to my soul.

Audrey had left the room to answer the door when Remus turned to Severus. "She knew about Rosier?"

Severus frowned. "I think she caught us once. It's vague - I think she told Evan's parents, and then he threw me over to keep his inheritance." He shook his fringe out of his eyes. "I don't - don't want to remember most of it. It was a bad time."

"I don't blame you." Remus took his hands. One of Dora's favorite sayings came to mind. "That season is past. We may have scars, but life found a way. It always does."

Narcissa patted her shoulder. "Lupin has never struck me as that - charismatic."

"Who knows?" said Andromeda. "I even told her that Remus had been involved with Severus, and of course we'd all known about his preferences since the day Phipps caught him with Evan Rosier in that broom closet. She thought that a season or two would change him - "

" - then life would reassert itself." Narcissa gazed bleakly at the wall. "But now?"

A wail came from upstairs. "He needs his father," said Andromeda. "And I need my grandson. If this is the price - "

"He never loved your daughter." Narcissa set down her cup. "And yet you and your husband allowed the wedding. You let them live with you."

"It was that or lose her entirely. When Severus showed up, looking just the way he did when he was with Rosier - "

"Better than he did with Evan. His grandmother has his teeth fixed."

"I know." Andromeda buried her face in her hands. She could almost hear Dora saying See? I told you that seasons changed and life would find a way! as she held her newborn son. "What else could I do?"

Narcissa had poured two cups of tea by the time Andromeda returned from checking on Teddy. Andromeda gestured at the sugar bowl, which obediently added two spoonfuls to her cup.

"I'm not surprised about Severus. I remember that affair he had with Evan Rosier," said Narcissa as Andromeda took her first sip. "Your son-in-law being queer, though - "

"He was always, Cissy. I tried to warn Dora, but she kept saying that seasons always change and life will find a way, some nonsense like that." Andromeda shook her head. "He did his best, but he never truly loved her."
