Open to Singles
The mixer was very well chaperoned, hosted at the hotel by Ms. Sheedy. There was a piano player for music, a buffet against one wall. There were tables for eating and talking, and a space set aside for dancing. Under Ms. Sheedy's beady eye.

Some of the Beloveds at the hotel had arrived early to help set up the room so even by the time it officially 'opened' at 6 pm there was a bit of a crowd of unmarried people.

	Daniel was relatively early, himself, and he had a good strong back so he was more than willing to help move the last chairs into place and help however else he could. He'd tidied himself up, though he certainly wasn't the sharpest dresser in town. Still, he was ready with a smile when other people finally arrived. "Evening," he said pleasantly. Sadie had helped out earlier with set up and then gone to her room to get ready for the party. When she came back down, there was already a crowd assembled. She saw Dan and hesitated, but then remembered her conversation with Effie, took a breath and rolled back her shoulders.

"Good evening, Mr. Masters," she said, greeting him with a smile. "I'm glad you could make it tonight."

He'd hoped she'd be there. He'd even considered sending a note when he heard the gathering was going to happen, but then, he thought, that might just be pushing his luck.

He straightened up, though, and smiled, warm and genuine. "Miss Blackwood." He gave her a less-than-perfect little bow and said, "I'm glad I could, too. And glad you could. It's nice to see you again."

	"You live here," he agreed, "but I imagine there's ways around attending a function if you're wanting to be somewhere else." He had to pause to make sure that made sense.
