The mixer was very well chaperoned, hosted at the hotel by Ms. Sheedy. There was a piano player for music, a buffet against one wall. There were tables for eating and talking, and a space set aside for dancing. Under Ms. Sheedy's beady eye.

Some of the Beloveds at the hotel had arrived early to help set up the room so even by the time it officially 'opened' at 6 pm there was a bit of a crowd of unmarried people.

She liked holding his hand. A lot. As he led her, she couldn't resist slipping her fingers slightly higher, letting her thumb rub softly against the inside of his wrist. She watched him closely, carefully gauging his reactions.

Edward's eyes fluttered slightly and his flush deepened a little, but he showed no other outward sighs.

Her hand eventually wound up wrapped fully around his wrist, loose enough that he could take his hand back if he wanted, but warm and there. She bumped in close as she dared, "I missed you, Edward," she whispered confidentially.

"I missed you too," he whispered back, turning into her touch a little more.

She gestured to a free table, "Would this one suffice?"

"Perfect," Edward said, putting his plate down and nudging the chair closer.

She smiled at the chair being nudged closer, but they were going to have to be careful. Ms. Sheedy's eye was very sharp after all. "Has Ms. Sheedy been so very busy with hosting this, do you know?" she said taking a seat.

"It seems like it," Edward admitted. "She seems to have been busy indeed. But she's been happy. So many have entered into agreements since LeChance opened. The atmosphere's always very optimistic."

She put her plate on the table, "Optimistic? For matches you mean?"

Edward nodded. "Yes. Like maybe we could all get lucky."

Delilah couldn't help the smirk that rose on her face. She'd been brought up to be pretty plain speaking, after all. "Get lucky?" she asked, trying to look innocent and struggling to keep a straight face.

Edward flushed but met her eyes, lips curling up even as his face burned. "That kind of lucky too."

She chuckled. "Oh my. Such optimism."

Edward laughed. "Well, LeChance is full of such beautiful people."

She pretended to study the faces around the room, before settling her gaze directly at Edward, "Isn't it just?" she said, voice pitched low, almost at a purr.

Edward smiled slowly, feeling warm all over. He met her gaze. "Oh yes."

Not breaking her gaze, she moved her chair closer, dropping her hand down out of sight from the room, but reaching for his. "Give me your hand Edward?" she asked in the same tone as before.

She rubbed her thumb in circles over the back of his hand as she spoke, voice still low confidential. "I've never been matched before, did you know that? Oh yes I've courted. But never matched. Never felt the.. spark? Inspiration? Before now." She paused for a moment before continuing. "You inspire me Edward."

He breathing hitched slightly but he smiled, warm and easy. "I am very glad. Very, very glad."

She watched his reactions closely. God, but he was beautiful. His eyes alone would undo her if she wasn't careful. "Tell me. Just one thing you dream about when you imagine your future. Please?"

"Being allowed to do what I love most and being able to spend it with someone I have a connection to," he said honestly. He bit his lower lip, let out a slow breath. This whole being bold thing was really not his style, but she'd said... "I want it to be you, Delilah."

She knew it was costing him to be so bold, and she appreciated it. She found it made her strangely proud of him for answering all the same. "Thank you for your honesty, it means a lot Edward, it really does. Does that mean you'd have no objections if we were to continue courting, with the aim of approaching the Yenta sometime in the near future regarding a union between us? Because I'd like that very much. I'd very much like it if you'd consider sharing your life with me, should all discussions go well."

Squeezing lightly back, she smiled broadly. "We'd need to talk more of course, but I'm so happy you feel the same way."
