Entry tags:character: harry potter, character: lily evans potter

RP: Harry/Lily
Who: Harry/Lily
When: After meeting Lily Luna, 8 April
Where: Gryffindor tower
What: after his daughter, he meets his mother

After leaving Lily Luna, Harry asked Sir Nick who was passing by if he'd seen his parents. The ghost was rather helpful (he really liked their family) and Harry went straight for the Gryffindor tower. He wasn't sure if his parents would stay here now that they were both together. It was... less than private with Sirius and Remus on the next two floors, but then he'd leaved with Ron and Hermione for years so maybe it wasn't that strange.

He went to his father's room and knocked on the door. If seeing Lilu open the door had left him speechless, this was breathtaking. He'd looked at the few pictures he had of his parents so many times, he'd met them with the Resurrection stones, but there was something missing a vibrancy that was apparent in person. "Hi," he finally said. "I'm glad you're here. I was waiting for you. Dad, too." He vaguely gestured between them. "Can I hug you?"

Still reeling a little after catching up with James, Lily was slightly anxious about meeting Harry. There were so many questions and concerns going through her mind, but Lily already decided that she would let him control the flow of conversation. She worried that he would be angry with her, or even worse, that he would want nothing to do with her. Knowing her baby was a man now, one who had apparently gone through quite a lot... well, it was almost more than Lily could handle. She was, of course, elated that he wanted to meet with her, and that he took the first step and contacted her. That was very mature of him. It was everything she could do to not cry.

She felt slightly weird being back in the dorms. However James was comfortable, and his friends were here. Well, their friends, really. When she heard the knock on the door, she practically jumped up to answer the door. She smiled softly as she took in the sight of her son. He looked just as stunned as she felt, and it set her more at ease. "Hi," she responded, her voice thick with unshed emotion. "I... I don't know what to say. Of course you can hug me, love."

"There's a lot of that going on," he said, smiling, before hugging her so tight that he lifted her off the ground a little, before realizing what he was doing and putting her down again. "I-" He ran his fingers through his hair, more as a nervous tick than an attempt to fix hair that would never stay in place.

"Not sure what to say either. Merlin, I've been hoping that you'd get since since Dad arrived and now- God, you're so beautiful," he said, feeling a sting in his eyes that he hadn't felt since he was a child. Harry had stopped crying long ago, never willing to give his aunt and uncle the satisfaction to see his pain, but this wasn't pain.

"I had a few pictures of you, but they didn't do you justice." He chuckled. "I see why everyone smiled when they talked to me about you. I probably have a million questions for you and a lot more assumptions that are probably wrong, but I should probably stop talking since I'm making an arse of myself."

What was it about Potter men sweeping her off her feet with their hugs? Lily couldn't help but laugh at having been hugged that tightly twice now. "Your father did the same thing when he saw me," she revealed, grinning up at Harry. He was a little taller than her, but a pinch shorter than James. She loved it.

"Harry... that's so sweet," she murmured as she reached up to let her hands rest on his cheeks for a moment. Lily could already feel the tears welling up in her eyes, fighting them back for the moment. "You can say whatever you like, and I'll answer and explain whatever you like."

Lily tugged him into the room so they could sit and talk. "I'm glad you had pictures, but I'm here now. And I promise you that no matter what, your father and I will support you in every way we can." She took a seat, patting the space next to her. "You could never make an arse of yourself with me."

Harry chuckled at the admission. "I'm surprised that he let you go. He's been great, but he hasn't been able to talk about you and now you're here and it's- It's amazing."

He shrugged. "It's the truth." He leaned into her touch. He wasn't one to want to be held, but it was different with her, or even with his Dad. They were his parents, and he couldn't imagine pushing them away. He must really have been a shitty father for his children to dislike him that much. "You might be sorry that you said that. I've never really had a lot of answers about you and Dad."

Following her into the room, he realized that he'd never been inside yet, but he followed her so they could sit 0n the sofa they had. "Not as many as I would have liked. Everything got destroyed when Voldemort came to the house. Aunt Petunia never had any pictures. I got the pictures from people once I got to Hogwarts. Hagrid, Moody, I started collecting them after the first one." He looked away because for a moment he thought he might cry for real. "I'm sorry, I don't want this to be about you not being there because you are here now and that's all that matters."

Lily blushed lightly at his comment. "He wanted to check on the others and see how they're holding up after everything. And yes, I'm here now."

She sighed. "Oh Harry..." She leaned in to press a kiss to his forehead, not even thinking that it might be unwanted on his part. There was something about him that made her want to hold him and never let him go, but she wasn't sure how he would react to that. Regardless of how grown he was, he was still her baby boy. "You deserve all the answers you want, and I will never feel sorry for offering you more insight."

Pleased that James at least had a sofa so they didn't have to sit on the bed, she was doing her best not to smother him. "I'm so sorry, darling. Your Aunt Petunia never got over the disaster of a dinner your father and I had with her and Vernon. I'm glad people at Hogwarts were able to give you some pictures, and hopefully the three of us can take advantage of this chance to be together by documenting whatever we can." She gently rubbed his shoulder. "Please, don't apologize. You have every right to say everything you're feeling. We weren't there for you, and I wish we were. As you said, we're here now, and while that won't make up for the past... I just hope that your father and I can help to fill in any blanks you might have."

"Of course he did," he said, smiling. "I think they went from being friends to him being Sirius' father, too. I don't know if it helps, but Sirius never did grow up, even in his thirties."

Harry sighed. "It was... hard without you and Dad. Aunt Petunia never said anything. She didn't even tell me I was a wizard. I always thought you died in a car accident. Those pictures were important, but having you here is all I ever wanted."

He grinned. "I don't even want insights. I just want to get to know you and Dad. He'll be a little better now. I could tell it was hard for him to talk about you, especially at the start, but we were getting around. Now, it'll be fine, and you don't have to fill the blanks. We can just make a lot new memories together, this time, and you can ask me things too. I want you to know about my life."

"I've always thought they were more like brothers than friends," she opined. "Sirius has always been fond of your father, so that doesn't surprise me. Honestly, I used to worry Sirius didn't like me after James and I got involved."

Lily pushed down a pang of frustration towards her sister. "I wish we could have raised you. Your Aunt didn't exactly appreciate our world. She wanted everything to be normal. And I still want us to have pictures. New ones, of the three of us."

She nodded. "There's nothing in the world I'd like more than getting to know you. I've missed so much of your life, and from the sounds of it you haven't had an easy time of it. Were Remus and Sirius around for you, at least? And Peter? I know you mentioned Hagrid and Moody, but Sirius was, or is, I suppose, your godfather, and Remus has always been a very dear friend."

"I know. He lost it when you were killed," Harry said, although he wasn't sure if the you included both of them. Sirius seemed unhealthy attached to his father. "Sometimes after he escaped from Azkaban, he'd get confused and call me James. I don't think he really ever coped with that."

He grinned. "We can take pictures. I don't know how, but I'm sure there's a camera somewhere around here. You have to see the new Muggle cameras. They are amazing and so small, even if they don't move. You can even take pictures with your phone."

Harry sighed. "So... Sirius was in Azkaban for killing you. After you were killed, he figured out that Peter betrayed you and went after him. He never said anything in his defense, always said that it was his fault. Bloody idiot that he is. I met both him and Remus in my third year. Peter too for that matter. He was hiding as a rat. Dumbledore didn't want anyone to know where I was, so no one knew until I came to Hogwarts. Once I was here- things were interesting. There was always someone trying to kill me, every bloody year, but ... Snape helped. He tried to keep me safe. I know about you two being friends."

"To be fair, you do look quite a bit like your father, dear," Lily mentioned, unsure of what to think about Sirius having been in Azkaban. "Your Uncle Sirius had a hard life growing up, and I think your father was one of the first people who made him feel safe."

She laughed. "We'll figure it out. I'm sure between you, me, and your father we can come up with something. People can take pictures with their phones? That must be strange, having to bring it places. How does it still work disconnected from the wall?"

Lily let him speak, her expression going from concern to shock and back to concern again. "I can't imagine why anyone would think that Sirius could kill us, I'm nearly certain that he would rather die before doing anything that might hurt your father. And I really don't know what to think about Peter... I assume you told your father all this as well?" This time, when the tears started, she didn't stop them. To hear that Harry had dealt with people trying to kill him on top of everything else was just too much for her heart to bear. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart, I can't imagine how terrible that must have been. I'm glad Severus was able to help you, despite how he felt about your father. I always knew he was a good man deep down."

"But I have my mother's eyes. I heard it on repeat when I arrived at Hogwarts," he said with a grin. "I know what kind of life Sirius had. I lived in his house. His mother's portrait was stuck to the wall and we couldn't get rid of it. Kreacher was my house elf. I have a pretty good idea."

He nodded. "The phones are smaller than a pack of cigarettes and you can take them everywhere. You don't have to connect them anywhere. They use the satellites that they used for space travel. They got even more sophisticated with time. They even have watches that works as phones now."

He shrugged. "Because he went to a crime scene, like a madman, saying that it was his fault, and Dumbledore thought that he was the Secret Keeper. That was enough, even though I agree with you." He nodded. "I've told Dad about Peter, although I also told him that he died saving me." He wiped her tears with his thumb. "I'm sorry. Please don't cry. I don't want you to cry. It's.. it's fine. I survived and I'm here. The Boy Who Live, the Chosen One, the Savior, pick a name, the bottle line is that I'm still here." He nodded. "I named one of my sons after him, Albus Severus. He never stopped caring for you."

"I would apologize for that, but we do have lovely eyes," she replied with a cheeky smile. "Well then, I suppose I don't have to say anything more about all that. I've always felt a little badly for the families that put so much pressure on meeting some crazy ideal."

She blinked. "Are you having a go at me, darling? Playing some prank like your father and Sirius used to? I mean, if all that's true, then you could be in contact with people from anywhere. That's madness!" She didn't want to imagine what Sirius with a phone like that would have been like.

She sucked in a deep breath. "When you put it like that, it does make sense that people would think the worst. Poor Sirius, though..." She tried to smile through her tears. "I can't help it, hearing about what you went through and knowing that your father and I didn't protect you as well as we thought is just upsetting. It's good that Peter saved you, that's a point in his favor, however I wish he wouldn't have had to in the first place." She reached up with a shaky hand to wipe the rest of her tears away. "There was a little bad blood between Severus and I, and I'll admit my choosing to be with your father didn't help things. I suppose, if I'm given the chance, I should try talking to him."

Harry laughed. "I do have lovely eyes, but they are usually covered by my crazy hair anyway. The glasses were a big thing too. After I fixed my eyesight, I still wore glasses in public, because somehow people didn't recognize me when I took them off. That helped with undercover work. It was the Superman effect. It was insane," he said with a shake of his head.

"I think they are a special family. Even the Malfoys, for all they are purebloods and believe in all that bull, they always put Draco first and he them. Sirius' parents were just... well, nuts." He shook his head. "Of course not. I'm not really one for pranks. Never had the time. Do you remember the computers that they used to send people to the moon. They kept making them smaller and smaller. They are now this big," he said, gesturing the size of a laptop. "You can bring them everywhere and you can connect with everyone. Same with the phones. You post a picture or a video and the entire world can see it instantaneously. This is why it's so dangerous to go into the Muggle world. You get caught on camera doing magic and the entire world knows."

As much as he liked Sirius, he wasn't important in the rest that she was saying. "No don't think that. You protected me in the most brilliant of ways. Voldemort cast the killing curse on me. Your love worked as a shield. No one has every figured out how you did it, but you blocked an unblockable curse and kept me alive. That protection stayed with me for years. The bad part was that it was tied to your blood, so I was stuck with Aunt Petunia, but even after you died you still protected me." He sighed. "I'm not sure what happened there, but I want to find out, although this Peter can only guess since he arrived from before the betrayal. He might not even know for sure what happened." He snorted. "I saw what happened. I was in his head when he was training me. I also saw the happy memories he had of you. He still hates Dad, but we get along well enough."

Lily carefully swept Harry's hair away from his face. "My eyes and James' hair, you poor child. I bet you look rather smart in your glasses, again, like your father... oh, listen to me just rambling on, as if you don't already know how much you look like your parents," she sighed with a short laugh.

"I'd love to say that it was a different time, and that for some families honoring the name and bloodline was more important than the well-being of the children." She wasn't certain that was the case, though. "So, you're telling me that in the future, everything is smaller, but more powerful? And people don't seem to mind that everything can be shared easily between Muggle and wizard alike?" It sounded absolutely bonkers to Lily, but then again there was a lot she was learning about that she could barely make heads or tails of just yet.

Although the fact that their son grew up without them would never stop causing Lily pain, she appreciated that he was willing to talk about it without seemingly blaming them. "Your father and I both considered you the most important thing in our lives, and we accepted that we would do whatever it might take to keep you safe. Where I'm from, we had already seen firsthand the devastation that the Dark Lord was capable of, and once we were made aware of the prophecy... well, there was nothing I wouldn't do to stop him from harming you." She understood that her explanation didn't really shed any light on how she protected him, but she had no idea either. "There has to be a reason he chose the path he did; I'll just have to see what I can learn." She shook her head. "There was a time, where for all their charm and wit, your father and Sirius delighted in being total knobs. Severus was my first wizard friend, and I've never forgotten that. I just wish his love of dark magic didn't outweigh his better qualities."

"I haven't bothered with the glasses. I don't think anyone here would be fooled by glasses," he said chuckling. "I actually got the idea from Hermione. She fixed her teeth, so eventually I decided that I could fix my eyesight."

Harry shrugged. "There will always be people like that. I don't think it has to do with bloodlines. Even Muggles are like that." Human nature was the same regardless of decades or powers as far as he'd seen. "The Muggle world is pretty awesome when it comes to technology, but it's still not magic. There's something special about being able to cast spells." He shook his head. "Oh no, the Statute of Secrecy has been enforced very heavily. You cast magic in front of Muggles, you end up in Azkaban. That hasn't changed. I think in a way Muggle technology has done what the purebloods wanted to do, create a bigger divide between wizards and Muggles because it was just too dangerous. I just know because I lived in London and I would dress as a muggle, walk around, get to know what was happening there."

He smiled again. "I know you did, and we've seen that devastation too. Maybe even worse. In 1997, he took over the Ministry. He was in charge for a whole year and people just let him." He didn't say that her engagement probably set Snape on the path he chose. That was something between the two of them. "His love for the Dark Arts kept me alive. Draco is pretty good with the Dark Arts too. I've cast the Unforgivables and so has almost everyone I know. I've learned that it's not whether you know them and cast them that's the problem, it's why you use them."

"I would have been fooled, but then again last time I saw you was when you had to be carried everywhere," she joked lightly. "I'm going to guess that this Hermione is a friend of yours?"

Lily might have initially gone with 'girlfriend' when guessing about his relationship with Hermione, but the way he mentioned her name didn't set off any of the proper emotional bells for that kind of supposition. The conversation was moving on anyway, which was probably for the best. "I grew up as a Muggle, so I can understand why people might think some technology is of no comparison to magic. Although, there are quite a few Muggle musicians and bands that I enjoy more than I do some wizarding bands." Honestly, she really couldn't think of any wizarding band equivalent to The Beatles or Simon and Garfunkel. "Was it strange for you, growing up part Muggle and part magical?"

Much as she wanted to smile as he continued to detail some of his experiences, Lily was finding it hard to mask the growing apprehension she felt despite seeing Harry alive and seemingly well in front of her. To hear that he not only cast Unforgivable curses, but also that he learned there's a difference between why you choose to use one made her heart and head ache. "Well then, I suppose it's a good thing that both Severus and this Draco knew enough about the Dark Arts to make something positive out of them."

"Thanks for lying, but I doubt it. You know that thing about looking like Dad," he answered, chuckling. "Hermione Granger, she's my best friend together with Ron Weasley. They are a thing, but really it's been the three of us against the world for so long that we get called the Golden Trio. They have also written about all the crazy orgies we had, all lies of course. I promised Dad that I wouldn't tell you, but better you hear it from me that read one of the old papers," he said, shaking his head.

Harry thought about the question and sighed. "I grew up being a Muggle. I had no idea that magic existed. Aunt Petunia tried to stop me from finding out about Hogwarts. Hagrid had to physically come and get me. By then I was so ready to leave that I never really cared about the Muggle world. Sure I read the newspapers after the war, checked out the technology but I wasn't part of the Muggle world. I was a wizard. I am a wizard."

He could tell that she didn't like the answer, but he wasn't going to lie to her. "Draco is going to become a Curse Breaker for Gringotts. Well, now he won't, because he's here, but in the past- This is confusing, but you know what I mean." He bit his lip for a moment. "There is one question I should have asked at the start. What do you want me to call you? If Mum is too weird, I understand. I want you to be all right with whatever we pick."

"Are you accusing me of lying, dear?" she asked in a mock offended tone. "Crazy orgies? My word, it sounds like some reporter must have had it out for you and your friends. I hope I can meet them at some point, as they're obviously important to you. And no matter what Sirius might try to claim, there's never been any crazy orgies, at least not that I was ever aware of."

Lily started rubbing Harry's back at the sound of his sigh. "There's always been a part of me that thinks Petunia was a bit jealous about not having powers. It might explain why she worked so hard to keep that side of your life from you. I wish you had gotten to grow up with other wizards, but if wishes were fishes we'd all have sushi."

All things considered it shouldn't matter whether she liked his answer or not, since things were obviously different for them. "Is Draco another of your friends, or is he more important than that?" she asked quietly, searching his face. "You can call me whatever you feel most comfortable with. I love being called Mum by you, but if it's too soon for that, I'll understand."

"I'd never!" he said, laughing. He wasn't sure why it was so easy to talk to his parents and so bloody hard talking to his children, but he was sure glad that he could talk to both his parents. "My name sells which is why I'm in the papers every day. I honestly stopped reading the Daily Prophet. People give me articles that they think I should read. And you can certainly meet them. I'm sure you'll love them." He snorted. "If Sirius had managed to get in bed with Dad, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have let go."

Harry agreed with her. "She was a lot jealous, and her husband is even worse. Dudley, that's her son, was terrible when we were growing up but slowly he turned out all right." He snorted. "I'm not too fond of sushi, maybe because I'm too practical for wishes."

He smiled at the question. "Draco is... in his own category. We met at eleven. He was the first wizard I met after Hagrid. It was hate at first sight, then we spent years fighting, then we saved each other's lives and now we're dating, although that seems almost too reductive, just like best friends is almost too little for Ron and Hermione. I guess when you face death together for years, it becomes so much more, you know?" He knew that people were always comparing the first war with the second, but they had been so different. "I'm not sure how to even explain it. I know that during your time, students took sides, but we literally had people trying to kill us every year. Dementors, basalisks, Dark wizards. It was very different from the Hogwarts you know."

Harry grinned. "Mum is just fine. I didn't want it to be weird for you."

"I don't know, darling, that sounded quite a bit like you were," she murmured, the lilt in her voice making it clear that she was joking. "It all sounds rather ridiculous to think reporters would make up things about you just to sell their papers, but then again what would I know about all of that? It's good to know that you've had people helping you watch your back. That makes me feel a little better." She sighed. "This will probably sound terrible, but there are times where I felt like I was the third wheel in my own marriage."

Lily shook her head sadly. "I tried so hard to be supportive of her and Vernon, but he was something else. So concerned with status and wealth, which rubbed your father the wrong way as well." She laughed at that. "You take after me in that respect."

She loved seeing him smile. "They become more like family, especially when they've been around through all the good times and the bad ones. And honestly, hate at first sight is very similar to how your father and I got together. If this Draco makes you happy, and dating him feels right to you, then I'll do my best to not grill him too harshly when I finally get to meet him." She would never fully comprehend everything that he had been through, and perhaps that was for the best, considering. "Darling, don't worry about explaining it. You survived, and that's all that matters to me. Time changes everything, so I shouldn't expect my experience in the first war to be at all similar to what you've been through."

Lily smiled proudly. "The only thing that would make it weird for me, is if you chose to have nothing to do with me."

"Never." It was nice to be able to joke with her. "Dad got a little upset when he read about it. I had to tell him that it wasn't true, but yeah it is ridiculous. Do you want to know what is really ridiculous? My birthday is a bank holiday now. Or before. Everything shut down and magical folks would come into the Muggle world, all dressed in robes. It was insane. But yeah, I did have people to help me." He kissed her cheek. "Then tell him to butt off. You deserve to be super happy."

Harry made a face. "He's a bastard and deserves what he got. He died of a heart attack. I think she's better off without him. Dudley says that she's become... nicer." He tilted his head. "Do you not like sushi or are you too much of a realist?" He knew so little about her that the fact that she might not like sushi seemed terribly important.

He nodded. "That's exactly it. We're not blood but we are family." He chuckled. "I'm not sure what he'd say about the comparison, but I guess we've been dancing around each other long enough that it's accurate." He thought for a moment. "I think you'll like him. He did some stupid shit when he was young, mostly to protect his family, but he and his mother helped me when it counted. I would not be alive without Narcissa's help." A mother's love, Dumbledore would have loved the irony.

"That's never going to happen," Harry said. "Never. I want to know everything about you- Well, not everything, I'm not as bad as Sirius," he said, chuckling.

"Alright, I believe you." The smile on her face was so wide that it almost hurt her cheeks. "Your dad never took too kindly to being lied about. I'm sure that goes doubly when it comes to you. A bank holiday? Where magical folk willingly go into the Muggle world? That's going to make finding you a suitable gift hard, since I don't believe anything we buy or make could measure up to that." She nearly blushed again. "I know he needs his time with James just as much as I do. Although I will be laying down some ground rules."

Lily shook her head sadly at his words. "While I can understand why you feel the way you do towards him, people rarely deserve to die. With a few exceptions." Her sadness melted away at his question. "Both, actually. There are certain types of sushi I don't mind, but overall it's not really my cuppa. And I've always been more of a realist than your dad."

She nodded. "That's how I feel about the Marauders, mostly." She wasn't all that sure about Peter, now. "Everyone does stupid shit when they're younger, and often times they feel they have a strong reason to. What matters most is that when the chips were down and you needed him, he came through for you. As did his mother." She felt there was no reason to tell Harry that his fondness towards Draco already had her wanting to give the other young man a hug.

"You could have been angry at your dad and I," Lily pointed out. "And we wouldn't have blamed you if you were. However, you're not, and we have a lot to catch up on. Clearly."

Harry winced. "That's- I learned to lie very young and... well, it's not a lie if it's a secret, I suppose, but I'm not lying about those articles. They took the most innocent things and turned them into big drama." He snorted. "I don't think we need to use that as the standard for my presents. Actually, do you know what I want? Me, you and Dad, and a little cake. We can have the big party people want, the fireworks, whatever later on but maybe lunch it can be just us." He had never had his own cake growing up, but he'd always dreamt of having one with his parents, as stupid as that sounded.

"Good for you. You didn't get the chance to enjoy life. You should now." Sirius would need to learn that they weren't in school anymore, even if technically they were in a school. The other comment made his snort. "He made me in a cupboard under the stairs and didn't give me food, while he was over three hundred pounds always stuffing his face with fatty foods I cooked for them. He didn't deserve to be killed, but he deserved to die."

Talking about her was a lot better than talking about Vernon. "I look at the sushi, see all the raw fish and-" He shivered. "I'd rather go against a few Dark wizards than eat that." He was so glad that she agreed about Draco because he really wanted them to get along, but the last part cancelled out any more thoughts of Narcissa. "Why would I be angry? You did everything to protect me. Your love saved me. You gave up your life to protect me. I could never be angry with you."

Lily wrinkled her nose. "Sometimes lying is unavoidable... I just hope that you never feel like you have to lie to me about anything. Your dad and I weren't perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, and I promise you that I would never judge you for doing whatever it took to survive." She was pleased to change the subject back to his birthday. "What kind of cake do you like best? It's been a while since I baked, but nothing will stop me from baking my baby a birthday cake." She was looking forward to helping create happy memories for her, James, and Harry.

"Oh, my life was enjoyable for the most part. You know, minus the being hunted and involved in a war parts." Any regrets she had regarding how she lived her life were few and far between. A flash of anger flit across her face when Harry explained what growing up with the Dursley's was like. "I'm sorry, he did what?" What she wouldn't give to be able to go back and give that oaf a piece of her mind.

She was learning so much, both bad and good, and was thankful for the opportunity to be doing so. "I like the shrimp sushi, along with salmon and tuna. The weird ones, like eel and squid though..." She made a comically disgusted face. She gave a one shouldered shrug to Harry's question, letting her hand rest on his forearm. "We weren't there for you growing up. And from the sound of it, you've endured far more than your fair share of horrible things. We were able to protect you while we were alive, but we failed you after our deaths."

"I know and I doubt I'll have to. I can't really imagine why I would." Things that had happened in the past, things dealing with Voldemort wouldn't be lies but secrets that needed to be kept. "I... am not sure. Aunt Petunia wouldn't give me cake and after Hogwarts- We never really worried about what cake to get." As long as there was firewhiskey, they were happy. "What cake do you like? Maybe we can make the one you like. I'm sure I'll love it."

He wished that she had a much longer one, though. "Right, minus the war and Dark wizard wanting you dead." Harry shrugged. "It's over now and he's dead. I didn't say it to make you feel bad but to explain while he certainly deserved what he got."

He chuckled. "You're a lot more adventurous than I am. I mean it's not like there's a lot of sushi in the wizarding world, so I never got used to it." He took her hands and squeezed them gently. "You did all you could and you didn't fail me; you died to save me. I know you would have been a great mother if you could have. I- when we go to lunch, you'll meet my kids. They- well apparently I was not a great father. Or even a good one. I hope that doesn't change ... us."

"I think I've got a new mission. I'll bake some cupcakes in different flavors, and we can use them to figure out what you like best." She preferred classic chocolate, but wouldn't want to impose her tastes on him. "I usually go for chocolate cake, although I've entertained the idea of a big chocolate chip cookie, or a cheesecake."

She was happy with her life, minus the not seeing her son grow up. "You didn't make me feel badly. I just wish I could go back and change your childhood. I know I can't, but I can at least do my utmost to give you a better current time."

She pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Why would it change us, darling? With everything you've been through, I'm sure connecting with others hasn't been easy." She would talk to his children, and hopefully start laying down some groundwork to help their relationship with their father. "I can't wait to meet them. I'm looking forward to embracing my status as grandmother."
