Lily wrinkled her nose. "Sometimes lying is unavoidable... I just hope that you never feel like you have to lie to me about anything. Your dad and I weren't perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, and I promise you that I would never judge you for doing whatever it took to survive." She was pleased to change the subject back to his birthday. "What kind of cake do you like best? It's been a while since I baked, but nothing will stop me from baking my baby a birthday cake." She was looking forward to helping create happy memories for her, James, and Harry.
"Oh, my life was enjoyable for the most part. You know, minus the being hunted and involved in a war parts." Any regrets she had regarding how she lived her life were few and far between. A flash of anger flit across her face when Harry explained what growing up with the Dursley's was like. "I'm sorry, he did what?" What she wouldn't give to be able to go back and give that oaf a piece of her mind.
She was learning so much, both bad and good, and was thankful for the opportunity to be doing so. "I like the shrimp sushi, along with salmon and tuna. The weird ones, like eel and squid though..." She made a comically disgusted face. She gave a one shouldered shrug to Harry's question, letting her hand rest on his forearm. "We weren't there for you growing up. And from the sound of it, you've endured far more than your fair share of horrible things. We were able to protect you while we were alive, but we failed you after our deaths."
