Lily J. Potter ([info]lovingsacrifice) wrote in [info]hogwarts_dawn,
Lily carefully swept Harry's hair away from his face. "My eyes and James' hair, you poor child. I bet you look rather smart in your glasses, again, like your father... oh, listen to me just rambling on, as if you don't already know how much you look like your parents," she sighed with a short laugh.

"I'd love to say that it was a different time, and that for some families honoring the name and bloodline was more important than the well-being of the children." She wasn't certain that was the case, though. "So, you're telling me that in the future, everything is smaller, but more powerful? And people don't seem to mind that everything can be shared easily between Muggle and wizard alike?" It sounded absolutely bonkers to Lily, but then again there was a lot she was learning about that she could barely make heads or tails of just yet.

Although the fact that their son grew up without them would never stop causing Lily pain, she appreciated that he was willing to talk about it without seemingly blaming them. "Your father and I both considered you the most important thing in our lives, and we accepted that we would do whatever it might take to keep you safe. Where I'm from, we had already seen firsthand the devastation that the Dark Lord was capable of, and once we were made aware of the prophecy... well, there was nothing I wouldn't do to stop him from harming you." She understood that her explanation didn't really shed any light on how she protected him, but she had no idea either. "There has to be a reason he chose the path he did; I'll just have to see what I can learn." She shook her head. "There was a time, where for all their charm and wit, your father and Sirius delighted in being total knobs. Severus was my first wizard friend, and I've never forgotten that. I just wish his love of dark magic didn't outweigh his better qualities."
